I wish I could write a better review. I've worn Docs daily for over a quarter century. And in that time, as with so much in life, I've seen decline. These boots, while they have the same style and the same initial comfort, do not have anywhere remotely near the durability they once had.
Back in the 90's, I owned two pairs. One got me through high school with daily, hard wear. One got me through college. I retired each pair when the waffle simply wore out and the soles turned wholly slick. They were never retired for poor manufacture. They never fell apart. They never broke. They retained their style and charm.
Over the 2000's, though, despite my daily wear getting lighter as I got older, they wore out more and more quickly. I'm not down to each pair lasting me about 12 months of a desk job and light weekend wear while I run errands.
And all of this while the prices go up and up and up. A pair of black nappa 1460's cost me about $104 10 years ago. My latest pair (April 2018) cost me $154.
That's a 50% price increase for about a 50% durability decrease.
The typical problem I have is that layers of the sole de-laminate. They crack apart and insole padding starts slipping out. (Just this morning, a colleague and I were chatting and he mentioned the pull tag coming right out of his part; his being only about a year old.)
Decreasing quality and increasing price is, in a word, unsustainable.
I buy them out of habit, but the decline has me, sadly, looking elsewhere. It's tough to be a loyal customer--if not devotee--when you feel repeatedly screwed by poor quality. This may be my last pair of Docs.

I bought my first pair of Doc's back in 1996 in England at the Dr. Martens Store in Covent Garden. I wore those boots to death and have never found a pair of boots more comfortable then those (save for my Keen Brooklyn's). However I think I bought the wrong size back then (after about 9 countries and very bloody heels, which loosened up after about 2 months) because after buying my first pair since then. But I continued to where them for another 10 years before giving them up. I have found that I am one of those people that truly fits a size between the US7 and US8. It's true that Docs fit about a 1/2 to a full size bigger than usual...I wear size 9US/8UK in everything. I'm torn because I love these boots but the UK8 is a lot looser than the UK7...and the UK7 is very tight over the width and top of my foot. It's odd that the difference between the the two sizes is so drastic. So I'm torn to return both or just keep the UK8's and get an arch support to ease the loose-ness of the boot. They are really great boots, I just wish they'd make them in 1/2 sizes.

My husband has always loved Dr. Martens boots and was very disappointed with the fit of this pair. They run large by a whole size, but more importantly, they are poorly constructed. Specifically, when tying the laces, it is impossible to tighten them to adjust the boot to the foot because there is an overlap of leather. Also, it is awkward that the heel is not well supported.

Much like other posts from past Doc wearing individuals, the quality is going down having owned multiple pairs over the years. I had a pair of Green 1460's from 1994 and they were removed from closet by my now wife in 2006. They were in rough shape but were still serviceable, at least I thought so. Green was discontinued but when they came back, I jumped at the chance - with a few issues. The color is not dyed through the leather like the older pairs or the blue. Significant because if they scuff it is noticeable & apparent vs blended. Biggest issue is sole separating from bottom of the shoe. Quality has gone down but Zappos customer service is still top notch to make up for it.

Unfortunately, it took me a couple of days walking on these to come to the conclusion that these are the most uncomfortable pair of boots I've ever wore. While just by looking at them you assume they are quite roomy on the toes, this is deceptive. My left pinkie is always trapped before reaching the tip, causing me pain every single time. The cheap, unlined leather construction folds a bit around the heels, causing cuts, even after wearing thick socks to protect them. Stylewise is classic Doc Martens, and you will never assume that boots that look so good and comfortable are extreme torture to your feet. I have seen knockoffs at Payless that are more wearable than these.

There are two types of boot wearers, those that can wear the Docs and those that can't. These are beautiful boots and I wanted them to work but they did not. The fit seemed flaccid. The leather just too soft. I was afraid I was crease them so much just walking on the carpet to test the boots that I would not be able to return them. Overall, not nearly enough support at the ankles. Toe box too big. Heel area seemed ready to expand. Other reviewers just rave about these boots. So, I think it gets down to this -- if you like a stiffer, more supportive boot these will not do. If you prefer a soft, glove like feel you will love these boots.

Have bought these shoes for the last 15 years. Last 2 pairs wore out within 6 months. The soles are just not what they used to be.

Overrated, uncomfortable, punk rock crap.
I hate these boots. I've worn them everyday for a month now and still they haven't "broken in." They fit perfectly, but I don't understand the so-called comfort rumors associated with these boots. I'm selling these pieces of crap on EBay soon to some unlucky trendoid who would be more satisfied with a $40 pair of Walmart Survivor boots. Don't waste your money!

Well you pay 200€ plus, they squeek as hell and it wont stop. Its been like 4 months now. Very embarrassing to wear them. It is an awful experience, the shop that i bought them closed permanently and Doc Martens support won't even answer, they just send an automatic answer. Horrible to say the least. Pls don't waste your money on this garbage.

I returned. These were clearly fakes. Zappos is owned by amazon, which I didn’t know at the time of order. I know amazon sells counterfeit products.
The pair I received felt like cardboard covered in leather.
After returning, I ordered from dr martens. Big difference. Now I have real leather boots, that fit.
But, do research amazon/Zappos sell fakes and they don’t care.

I had a pair of Dr. Martins and they had mysteriously gotten a hole in the fabric at the tip on my right foot. I don't know how it happened as it just appeared one day. I sent them to you your returns depart, emt for surely after a little more than a year of ownership this could not have been from mere wear. Surly Dr. Martins are made of sterner stuff. I even wrote for an update after a week (I never received a write back). Imagine my surprise when I received my shoes in a poorly packed box with a letter stating, "Your shoes have been received and inspected. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate this exchange for the following reasons...Wear and Tear." What? Really the life of the "The For Life Range," "rugged," "Hardlife," Dr. Martin is one year? I thought, and I quote, "The leather will look good for years to come" this is one year? That is depressing. My Chaco flip-flops have outlived my "For Life Range" shoes.

I've been a die hard Docs owner for over a decade and these boots are definitely not the same ones my feet have known and loved. The first pair ordered were almost a full size too small, and the quality is generally terrible - they are no longer made in England at all, but are instead made in China! The feel, the quality, and the fit are all different. Zappos was great: exchanged the smaller pair for the right size, paid for return shipping and overnighted the new ones. These are definitely the last pair of Docs I'll be spending money on, but I'd definitely buy from Zappos again.

Docs are always hit-or-miss for me since I have wide feet. There are awesome because they were not as narrow as Docs frequently are.

Bought these for my daughter. She expected yellow laces and they were black, so though she was disappointed, it was ok. The heel loop is a good size to help pull them on. Shoes are spacious, but not too much so; she will be able to wear thicker socks if she wants to. Long laces that you can lace partially or bottom to top—looks good all ways. Smooth, soft padding that is friendly to the foot. These are her first Docs, and they’re living up to the hype.

They definitely run very large. I ordered a full size smaller than my normal size and I probably could have gone 1.5 sizes smaller. They're comfy, well-made, and cute.

What can you say, the tried and true shoes Dr.Martens never dissapoint. The shoes are notoriously widely built, but they are ture to size will just look bulky on you but inside there are not issues with feel. Definitely need to break in, do not give up on them after a couple weeks of blisters it goes away i promise. These shoes are meant to last years, they are very sturdy and most even suggest beating them with hammer, etc before wearing cause they are stiff AT FIRST not forever. This style is pretty, very matte, has a kind of plastic look to them. I love the vibrant mint. Shoes laces are a little hard to tie up than previous pairs, not sure if it is cause they are still new but when you pull them tight they don't move. Otherwise, great pair of shoes that go with a lot of funky outfits.

They felt a little loser than the last pair I owned which were the same size. Thicker socks did the trick. The finish is nice, not shiny and they are very comfortable right out of the box.

Most comfortable boots I've ever worn. I'm usually a US women's 8.5 and the UK 6 fit well with room to wear thicker socks. I originally purchased the UK 7 and it was pretty much a full size too big.

I’ve always liked Doc Martin boots and these are no exception. Solid boots, although not the most comfortable, these ones are a step up with the softer soles. I like them a lot.
