Just overall uncomfortable, especially in my calves. I felt like they were angled forward and when I stood straight they dug into the back of my leg.

Really stiff. Didn’t like the look.

While the look, fit, and comfort of the boot are great, the quality of materials is sub par at best. I’ve had terrible experiences with 2 pairs of boots, both Cherry Red Smooth. The leather creases, cracks, and begins to come apart after a period of a few months (5-6mo). I’ve tried with and without Doc’s recommended Wonder Balsam and the experience is identical. I’d understand this if I put them through tough work, but I’m barely putting wear on the soles before they give out. The leather used just does not last like the older British made boots. It feels plasticky and paper thin in high stress areas. Too bad the made in England boots aren’t available in the same color scheme.

Size 11. I live in VietNam and I can buy 'backdoor' (stolen) from workers at the factory here in VietNam, not rejects but boxed ready for retail sale. Even at deep 'discounts", I would never buy a Doc Martens again as these quality is poor, the leather sub-standard. In fact I used industrial super-glue to reinforce the heels. I noticed my 'sales contact' didn't wear Doc Martens, either. Time to find a quality alternative.

Poor quality, feels like and sounds like plastic.

I have a pair of 1460 Dr. Martens (from a Dr. Martens store)that I love. I bought a pair for my son and either the quality has deteriorated in 2 years or these are not originals. The leather is nothing like mine and the fit is way off. He wears a 10 in every shoe he is and these were huge. The leather looked very cheap and fake. Very disappointed and definitely sending these back.

These were not a men’s 12, nor were they smooth leather. I don’t know what they were, but they were not the shoes I purchased, and they were returned.

Worst fit I had on any boots.. cannot walk in these boots for more than a minute

The upper felt plastic, immediately decided to return them because of this. Terribly disappointing.

Hideously cheap feeling boots. The "leather" looks and feels like plastic. Multiple manufacturing defects per shoe. I don't blame the Vietnamese laborers for not caring too much given their wages. I wouldn't buy these if they were $20 at a discount store. Wow.

I really liked these boots at first. They were good looking, waterproof and seemingly durable. After a year and a month they are completely shot. The leather has holes in it where the boot flexes as I walk, the tread has worn out, and the left sole is cracked. I work in a retail environment and walk about a mile a day 5 days a week. I kept up with the polish and use a boot dryer, but it made no difference. In the future I know to look out for cheap materials like this and I will be purchasing higher quality boots even though it will mean paying more.

The sole started to detach after 5 months. I have been using Dr. Martens for the past 25 years and never saw anything like that. Zappos customer care is replacing the shoes for free. The big problem is that this is the second time this happens for the same shoes! I had them already replaced for the same problem, so this is the third pair I am getting. I hope the issue is one specific factory/country: both defective pairs of shoes came from Vietnam. I have another pair made in Thailand that is still good, so I hope they do not break as well. If Dr. Martens is reading, I hope they will improve quality control on ALL their factories as these shoes are still very expensive.

I'm not one to typically leave a review; If I like something, I'll likely buy that something again. If I don't, I'll look elsewhere. However, these boots have been so miserable throughout my year and a half of owning them that if I can convince one person to look for another product I will be happy. I do not want any consolation from Doc's, I have worn these daily for a year and a half so I at least feel that I got my use from them. Nor do I want any from Zappos, I will be buying a new pair of boots from here, that aren't made by Doc Martens, because Zappos customer service always keeps me coming back. That said, these boots took about 3 weeks to break in which is normal to me but it was only about after 6 months that the leather between the laces and the toe began to crack and split open. Mind you, I work in an office and the most strenuous activity I will do in a day is walk up two flights of stairs, yet after 6 months these boots looked like toe was going to outright fall off. Not long after that a large section of the heel ripped, not where a seam was just right in the middle of the leather. The quality of the leather is so poor, I feel that it more closely resembles wet cardboard. The insides of the boots were reduced to shreds after only a year, I routinely found myself pulling out pieces of fabric from the inside of the shoe, especially where the heel is. Even pieces of plastic were coming loose and I had to tear them out because it constantly felt like there was a giant rock in my shoe. As for the soles, they supposedly are resistant to Oil, Fat, Petrol, Acid, and Alkali; I wouldn't know as I've never walked on any of those substances before in these boots. I do walk on snow a lot, and I can tell you, you're going to eat it wearing these. Absolutely no traction in snow or slush. I'm not talking ice here, I don't expect any boot that doesn't have metal spikes on the bottom to be ice resistant, but just walking on snow in these feels like walking on a slip-n-slide while barefoot. After a year and a half, the traction on the soles is just gone. I don't care anymore, my feet can't take this any longer. I'm just going to outright say it, these boots are Chinese garbage and knowing what I know now, I wouldn't wear these if they were free. Thank you for your time

Love the look of these boots. Solid looking. Took a few days and blisters to break in. Got a size smaller and they fit great. Only thing: haven't even worn them a couple of days and already the leather is peeling and flaking. They are cheaply made uppers even though they have a solid sole wish I would have went with another pair because of the flaking, peeling leather.

Very frustrated to have had these Doc Martens for a year and see both shoes have their soles begin tearing away from the bottom of the shoe. And, after really only wearing 2-3 times per week. Not happy to have to have them re-glued. I hope they last, but will reconsider buying Doc's in the future.

If you want the old Docs, you have to buy the vintage line. They are still made in England and are much better quality than the cheaper models which are now made in various Asian countries. Of course, they are also more expensive. Don't buy the mass produced Asian models expecting them to equal the "vintage" quality.

Unfortunately the reviews highlighting the drop in quality of Dr. Marten's are accurate. I purchased a pair of 1460 11 years ago when I was in high school, wore those boots everywhere and loved them. In fact I recently uncovered that old pair in a box, which after discovering they no longer fit, prompted my new purchase. The leather used in their new boots is of very low quality and after only 3 months of wear has blistered and creased on every surface of the boot. Quality boots will crease in the toe, on the sides of the uppers; where the leather bends repeatedly. But these basically look like a leather shoe version of a person with goosebumps, and no amount of boot oil (neatsfoot oil) or LP obenauf's will solve it. However, those 11 year old Dr. Martens (that were hardly even cared for correctly by foolish high school kid) still look fantastic. Go figure.

Very cool shoes. Very cheaply made. They fit fairly well on the lower foot, but way too loose in the shaft (couldn't even lace them up properly). Thin plastic feeling leather, NO arch support. Returning these to save for a Good pair of boots. I guess you get what you pay for. For shame Dr. Martens, for shame.

Buy Solovair! Do not buy these plastic pieces of junk. Solovair shoes are amazing, and they are even better quality than I remember Docs being. From what I understand, they made the soles at the Solovair factory, but stamped them as Docs. The Solovair leather is supple and real!

At first glance, these boots are great. They're comfortable and the shine is durable. The arch support is mediocre and you may want to get a slightly (1/2 size) larger boot in order to include a better insole. What isn't durable is the leather, which other commenters have noted. Within 8 months of purchase, I experienced cracked leather on the outsides of the toe caps, and the inside heel sheared from the sole of one boot. Since these were used primarily for commuting, I am disappointed with what appears to be poor quality leather in conditions that were hardly demanding. Shoe trees may have helped the toes by cutting down creasing but there's no excuse for the leather to come apart at the heel.

I am astonished and amazed at Dr. Marten's ability to deform leather into such a cheap, rubberized-vinyl substance. I complained years ago about the cardboard quality of newer, non-English made Docs, but I am now reconsidering - the baloney used to make these new ones is incredibly worse. I would ask Zappos for a refund if I hadn't already worn off the thin and 'fine' finish in only two days of wear. If you appreciate old Docs, you will be more satisfied with something else. Would gladly pay more for the quality of old Doc Martens.

There is terrible material on the back of the heel, it breaks apart, balls up, and rolls up creating a hot spot on the heel and wore out in two weeks. I will be looking into the warranty.

If you want the old Dr. Martens you used to know and love, you need to buy the Vintage style ones only offered through Dr. Martens. These boots offered at Zappos are made in China, not England. That is why they suck.

Dr. Martens used to be made in England. Those where the finest shoes with the best material. I still have a pair purchased in the late 90's. They are well worn but still in great shape. The new Dr. Martens are made in China. The material used is awful. They do not wear well, and the fit is nothing like the old. I am said to say I will no longer be buying this brand. I would have paid twice the price for the old quality and craftsmanship.
