Royal takeover - I have nothing but good feelings about Zappo.com. The problem I have is with the brand of shoe I bought. I have owned Dr. Martens for over 25 years. Enjoying and being comfortable, with my work it is important and I wear nothing else. However, when I received my last pair, just weeks ago, I was very disappointed. First, they were made in China, second they are not the quality of leather as my other boots, and finally they are so uncomfortable that I haven't been able to work in them. I have a lump on my leg wear they bruised me and the lump has not gone away in 3 weeks. I love Zappo.com, but won't be buying Dr. Martens unless they go back to quality materials and tradition.

The made in China fit is not the same as made in England - Doc Marten's have been my work shoe for 10 years at a restaurant...have enjoyed owning at least 5 pairs. But this one made in China is uncomfortable from the start and is abrasive at the back of the heel. Definitely won't cut it when your on your feet 7 hours. I'm in the process of returning this pair. I just have to search for another great work shoe.

I've just bought my 5th pair of Dr. Martens boots (1460)and did not manage to break them in. I was feeling something really strange with them, really uncomfortable. Something really changed... Is it because it's made in China, now? (by the way, the price we pay hasn't decreased).

I have been wearing this style of boot since the early 80's (oh yes, still a diehard Punk at heart). This is my 4 pair, the first two wore beautifully. Broke in easy, lasted a long time and were very comfy! However, this last pair I bought in 2003 was a waste of money and time. I have had the hardest time breaking them in. They are uncomfortable, my feet hurt in them and the laces break too easily now. I don't know what Doc's did. I guess they sold out to the Fashion Trends but they are NOT what they used to be. So I switched to Caterpillars. Much more bang for the buck, more comfy, don't need to break them in and my feet don't hurt!

Great for flat feet! After suffering 10 years trying to wear the size 10 recommended by the official Doc Martens store in London, I bought in 2006 the size 11 in the 1460 for blue from heaven. Same year I bought some side zip Docs in a Chelsea style always size 11. I am now a life long fan of Docs.

LOVE these boots. Long-time fan and repeat owner. This style is, by far, my fav. I’m a 7 1/2 no two ways about it. But these boots in size 7 fit me just fine. Note to those who never owned Doc’s… they break in over a L O N G time… and you’ll be stylish the whole while.

I bought these for my daughter and they arrived the NEXT DAY. Dr Martens last forever; you might need to have heels replaced but that’s it. I don’t mind spending the $$ when i know they will last the rest of her life.

My daughter loves them and wouldn't take them off the first day.

Fit is great! I have a narrow foot, but was able to cinch up the laces. Very stylish in bright pink!

Boots color were beautiful, need to break them in before wearing them.

The smooth leather are the classic combat boots that you always see people wearing. Yes, they are stiff, but not as stiff as you think. To break in a pair of Doc Martens is a rite of passage. To do it-You will need to wear think boot socks or double or even triple up on socks to avoid blister. Walk around the house every day for about 2 hours for about a week and you're good to go. (There are lots of videos on youtube that will give you clever tricks-such as freezing them with ziplock bags filled with water for 24 hrs or lathering them with mink oil. I didn't do any of those and I didn't end up with blisters. Of course the 1460 are the less painful of the Doc Martens to break in. Some of the others such as the Jadons have a reputation for being "blisters monsters". So just be aware of this. Reddit has a lot of good tips and advice on how to purchase Docs or tips for breaking them in, btw) They are true to size. I wear a size 7 and got a size 7. But with boot socks, they were to small. So I went to a size 8 and they fit perfectly. The only downside to the smooth leather is they will pick up every scuff and scratch. So if you are rough on your shoes, you may want to look at the ambassador or some kind of leather that is more forgiving. Otherwise, these are classics!
