They are decent boots. No break-in required for me. And the price is right. The only thing I can complain about is the color. My boots are a really dark brown. Much darker than that which the picture represents. If you don't mind, it's no big deal. If it is an issue, use Zappos' free return policy. The best on the web in my opinion. Oh, I kept my boots, off color and all.

These are beautiful, well-made shoes that I'm sure will last me a long time. I love tromping through the mud and rain and snow in them, but they are quite heavy! I'm still wearing them in after a month of not constant wear, so they still hurt the backs of my ankles sometimes and are overall rather heavy. It's not fun trekking across a big campus in these. Comparatively, I have some boots I got at Walmart that are probably look-alikes. These aren't as well made but they're lighter and easier to walk in. So look for something similar but less hardy if you want comfort, but for a pair of long lasting, classic boots, I recommend the Docs!

Have been a big fan of the Doc for years. But I'm now an even bigger fan of Zappos! Priced right. Delivered fast. Super return policy when I get my own shoe size wrong (it was the US/UK conversion thing!) Why shop anywhere else for Doc Martens, or, for that matter, any other footwear. 11 out of 10!

I like Dr. Martens 1460 because they are a minimalist, tough looking boot. I wear them to work in a business casual environment. They don't look as strange as something you'd get from the casual shoe section of your local sporting goods or discount clothier. I had to buy another gel insole due to the original insert feeling a bit flat, in my opinion. Other than that, these are a great boot!

They took a while to break in, particularly that seam where the tongue meets the toebox; it was excruciatingly tight, but since the rest of the shoe seemed to fit ideally I decided to slowly wear it in. After a little oiling and some rainy days the leather seems to have stretched enough that I would now call the boot mostly comfortable. It's still probably too tight to put in an insole though. Something I wasn't quite expecting is that the inside of the toebox has a cloth fabric stitched in. I thought I was buying an all leather boot so this was surprising, but maybe that's normal for Doc Martens? Overall a good enough boot for the price. I got them for work but of course they look good with almost anything. Looking forward to many good years with these things.

My foot is a wide 9 1\/2 and I buy these in size 10. I think they run a little too large, as they are a bit slippy, but the size 9 is too short.\r\n\r\n

I always wanted a pair of Dr. Martens so when I hit 40 & ended up getting divorced, I decided to get myself a pair of butt-kicking boots to get through the divorce and the trauma of being 40. I ordered a size up because I thought they might run small. I was wrong, ordered the smaller pair and Zappos upgraded my shipping and didn’t charge me for it. The return on the other pair was no problem at all. After all the crap I have been through, it was nice to have something run smoothly. I love the boots. I don’t think I quite have them broken in yet, but I am working on it. They are lightweight and really give you that "take no crap" attitude. Love the boots and love Zappos.

Classic boot. Looks great no matter how many times you wear the Martin...the more the better. I bought them for riding the motorcycle but they fit the part in any casual setting. They're a little large around the ankle 'cause I have small ankles! This boot needs to be broken in a bit, can be a little rough on the heel initially.

Now made in China like everything else. The finish is not as good as my old UK boots. The black gets scuffed real easy. The leather is a little more soft and comfy when new. Must be those skinny Chinese cows. They cost the same as they used to when made in the UK, so I get the feeling I'm being ripped off. Sometimes globalization gets me down....

The pros: The shoes are a great fit, very true to size and width. The finish on the leather is water-repellent, if not waterproof. The soles are very comfortable, even on long walks. The cons: The innersole that comes with the shoes is completely useless, I immediately replaced it with a more supportive one. The construction of this shoe is less "finished" than I would expect for a boot that costs this much. The junction between the tongue and the toe has a rough, intrusive seam that is bothersome for the first few wears (and I have tough feet - I hike at least 500 miles per year). The outside seams at the toe/upper junction are already coming apart on my shoes, and I’ve worn them for a total of five days. The leather on the upper is stiff and has sharp seams, particularly near the laces. These seams cut my shins on the first wear. They’ve broken in since.

I owned a pair of these boots years ago and it got in my head that I should get them again. \r\nThey\'re not the most comfortable boots in the world, and they weren\'t when I had them before, but there\'s something about them that appeals to me. \r\nThis probably doesn\'t help you much, but I like the boots despite the fact they\'re not the most comfortable. I have other Docs and they are more comfortable, but if you\'re looking for a versatile boot, this gets the job done. They\'re like a friend that\'s not always there for you, but when they\'re around they make everything worthwhile.

My first pair of Doc Martens and I like them. I walk everywhere, so it's good to have durable boots for winter. I'm a fan.

Becoming a fan of Docs - I needed a replacement for my casual shoes, and liked my Docs sandals, so I thought I'd try these, especially since they were on sale. So far, I'm happy. The leather looks better in person than in the photo, it's nice and supple, and they didn't need a break-in. I do have to order one size larger in Docs than other shoes, but with that, they seem to fit great. A deeper tread is all that is missing to give them 5 stars.
I'd also recommend:
Dr. Martens Alec sandals, Havana Joe boots.

Anyone familiar with Docs from the 1990s and earlier may be a little disappointed by the current state of the 1460. The lug design on the bottom is different from the original, classic version instead of individual lugs for better traction, the tread on the bottom is a series of stripes. The lugs are also shorter than before, resulting in less tread depth, which I interpret to mean that they will wear out more quickly. The fit is still similar, with a flat bottom that doesn\'t offer much arch support. On the plus side, they are still easily recognizable as Docs, the leather is supple right out of the box, and there is no break-in period required.

Green Dr. Marten boots - Received my Docs and man do I love 'em! Color was almost exact to what was on the monitor. Very soft footing inside, fit nicely. Friends love the color. I'm considering buying a red pair! I'm of European background so I like the colors to be striking and different!

More comfortable than expected - Since this was my first pair of Dr Martens of any kind, I have no way of comparing these to the older 1460's made in England. Having said that, I was quite surprised by how comfortable they were when I first put them on, since I had read so many reviews saying that they needed breaking in first. So far, I haven't experienced any of the chaffing or any other problem that I keep reading about. If I had to find a complaint, then it would be that there is little to no arch support (though it has a removable insole that can be replaced with one that has more arch support) and that can be a big problem for me. But the air soles of these shoes seem to alleviate any problem here and I wore them all day when I first got them without any soreness whatsoever. The only reason I don't give this shoe better ratings is because I'm picky when it comes to shoes and I wouldn't say that these are perfect in any way whatsoever. However, they really are great shoes and they're far better than what I was expecting from the reviews read here. The leather is supposed to be more stiff than what is typical for this shoe. And yet, the leather on mine was soft upon arrival and so I really don't understand the complaint with having to break them in first.

First boots in a while - I had forgotten how much breaking in DM boots require. If you get these, be patient. They're not going to fit perfectly at first. The time you spend breaking them in is rewarded with incredible comfort and durability.

Classic Docs - These are just like the Docs I wore 15-20 years ago. They are leather boots and take a while to break in. They seem wide in the heel (some slipping), but they are just the right width for my wide feet at the toes.

Rough break in - but great! Nice boots - be prepared to break them in b/c they are stiff at first - look great and are getting more comfortable with break in -- hope to have them/enjoy them for years.

Love them, but quality is low - I've had mine for about two and a half years and pretty much wore them everyday. For the first year and a half I polished them every week and treated them with mink every two months. Haven't had time to do that over the last year. The leather cracked and I have a hole in the leather now. I think that is unacceptable. Everyone always told me they would wear a single pair for five plus years. Regardless, I will be buying another pair. I guess 2 1/2 years is pretty good considering sneakers never even last a year... and look bad after six months. They are comfortable. I wear rigid insoles in all my shoes, so I didn't have much of a problem breaking them in.

Cute, but wide - My friend had this boot and I thought it was cute. She said it was very comfortable. So I bought a pair. I actually bought 2 pairs because of the strange sizing and kept the better of the 2, more for looks than for comfort. It's a unisex boot and cut very wide. But it is comfortable. It also doesn't breathe, so I won't get much summer wear out of them. Go with the smaller boot if your foot falls within 2 size ranges.

Just like I remembered - I haven't owned a pair of Docs since high school, but they're just like I remember. They're stiff and require some breaking in, but then they're like your best friend. Just prepare for some bruised shins until then.

Great boots, but long break-in period - I like the support that these boots provide and they are working well with my orthotics, so far. It seems that they will take a considerable amount of time to break in but once that happens I am sure I will be happy with them for years to come. I love the air sole - very cushiony!

Great shoe, something has changed since the 90s... Years ago I had a black pair of these Docs and hate to say it, but I wore them almost straight for three years... COM-FER-TUH-BULL! I remember there was a break in period, but remember the soles being a little different... more flexible or thicker? I am wearing a brown pair of Docs I bought with these and they felt like I've had ‘em six months... this black pair is taking longer to break in and like I said, the soles don't feel the same... with all that said... I LOVE THESE SHOES and in six months, suspect I’d give them all 5 star ratings... after the break in period...
I'd also recommend:
