These were killer boots at a killer price and it just killed me to send them back. Though I have a high instep, I wear Frye's Campus and Cavalry styles without a problem. In the same size, I could not get these Harness boots onto my feet without the old plastic bag, fall-back remedy. Once on, these felt fine: right amount of heel slip, and all. But without the plastic bags, there was no way my high-instepped foot was going to get around the corner of the shaft into the boot. Darned if I'll wear plastic bags on my feet in summer, so these didn't work. Such a deal - too bad it didn't work out!

I wanted to love these. The quality craftsmanship and slightly more versatile tread are fantastic. I wear a 10 or 11 and have medium width and arch. They went on with an easy tug and really fit like a glove (not easy for a pull-on boot, but I loathe zippers in boots!) My calf measures 15 1/2” and these left enough room for leggings or skinny jeans. But there was a faux silvery finish on the heel and around the sole I didn’t like. It may wear off over time but at this price point, I’m not keeping them unless I loooove them. Also, the squared design of these (while comfortable) made the toe look too long for my taste. Plus these wouldn’t be “every day” boots as the climate here is too warm. I will try Frye again for sure, when it makes more sense to invest in a great boot.

Major heel slippage especially on my left foot and the pair I received had black lines on the sides that did not look like normal imperfections. Almost looked like black magic marker lines. For the price, I returned them May re-order a half size smaller.

This is a pair of gorgeous boots, but not for wide feet or those who prefer a wide width shoe. I normally wear an 8W or 7.5 W although my feet are relatively thin. I went with the 7.5 medium which is the right size in length but just too narrow with thin or thick socks. I felt as if my feet were being squashed from both sides and my toes were rubbing on the top. The boot itself has a very narrow appearance at the front which I did not like. If you have wide feet or like wide-width shoes, this is not for you.

Gorgeous boots but couldn't get them on. There is no adjustment of the straps around the ankle and I just could not get my foot in because it was so tight in that area, and stiff. Sorry, I have to return them..

I ordered these a 1/2 size smaller than what I originally ordered to compare (8.5 & 9 - I usually wear a 9). I have to say the quality of the leather was different and the color was almost an entire different shade of the ones I was comparing them to (same color, tan, but in a size 9). I am returning these and sticking to the original size I ordered. Also, I paid for one day shipping but they didn't arrive till 10 pm two days after I placed the order.

The color of the Smoke washed/oiled leather is gorgeous! I has a brown tint to it which makes it nice to go with browns/blacks/greys. The first pair I ordered, had a discoloration on the shoe portion of the boot, like a paint drip that had run. Needless to say, for the price paid, these were returned. The second pair arrived today...great color and not so great fit. The right shoe is significantly looser than the left. There is one more pair in my size...I re-ordered again and I hope the third pair will be the charm. Otherwise, I may have to try another site or even the Frye Company for satisfaction on these.

Frye boots are amazing and well-made, but these weren't the right style for me. I ended up going with the knee-high Melissa Button Boot with a backzip, which were more versatile for me.

I want to love these boots, and I'm sure I will...once I get a pair I can get my feet into! Based on the reviews, I ordered my regular size to give myself a little extra room. I worked up a sweat trying to get my feet (especially my left one) into the boot! Once I got past the belt/buckle portion, they felt great! But I figured I wouldn't want to struggle every time I wanted to wear them. I returned that pair and ordered another pair 1/2 size up from my regular size. Second verse, same as the first. I can hardly get my feet into the boots, but once I do, they feel pretty good. But again, I don't want to dread putting them on...these are supposed to be boots you wear for the rest of your life. Returning the 1/2 size up pair for a full size up from my regular size. I sure hope these work, because if they don't, I'm going to give up on the dream of Frye Harness boots.

Super cute boot, but super stiff and SUPER narrow. :( I've wanted a pair forever, finally ordered them and my heart sank when my medium width size seven foot squeezed in. Alas, no way to stretch them out and break them in without killing my feet given how stiff they are.

I jumped at the chance when I saw Frye boots in size 12 on Zappos. And, excitingly the fit was good. The leather is thick and supple (I got it in black). However, I returned because of the weird seeming and insole. That seam that runs along the shaft of the boot- that made me nuts! It rubbed and was uncomfortable. Also, the insole (at least in the boot I got), looked kind of like when you take the insole out of a shoe and underneath is weird and bumpy. There was no cush or padding, and there was a little cup for your heel, which did not lay flush with the next portion of the sole. Last, I'm about 6' and these boots hit my calves in a weird and unflattering place.

My original order was size 8M, my usual size; right boot perfect fit, left boot wouldn't go on my foot. Second order size 8 1/2M; right boot good fit, left boot too big. Sorry couldn't find pair which fit. I love the boot.

Oh my gosh I love these but the circumference is ridiculously way too large! I want these so much but I am a size 5 which, in the foot, fits like a glove (Frey doesn't normally have size 5), but the calf size is ridiculous. I could fit my other calf inside this. I am so disappointed, as I have waited so long for them to come in size 5's. I almost want to keep them and not wear them, as they are such good boots. Have I gone wrong somewhere? I've read reviews where people say the calf is too skinny but this is just not the case. It's way too big and I am so sad.

I have wanted a pair of Freye Harness boots since forever! I finally took the plunge only to be disappointed. The pair I received looked like an odd pairing. One boot shaft was much much lighter in color than the other. I instantly knew I would be sending them back for an exchange but went ahead to see about the fit. I am sorry to say that this boot is not for me. I have short legs which puts the widest part of calf at the top edge of the boot. They pulled up but only just. I wanted these boots have have room around the top so I could wear them with skinny jeans and also with tights and skirts. I'm sure with wear the leather would stretch out a bit and I did also think about having them professionally stretched but in the end I sent them back. I just couldn't take the risk that they wouldn't stretch out and then I would have paid a lot of money for a boot I wouldn't wear. I'm so very sad.

I had been lusting after these boots for years, and I had finally gotten my husband to get me them for Christmas. Yay! Well, when I opened the box, not so yay. One boot was noticeably larger than the other, in several different ways. The right boot was considerably wider across the toe, and the left boot was longer. Poor workmanship for what I had assumed to be a reputable company. Now, I have been wearing a size 10 for years, and these were a size 10, and they were too big. My heel kept slipping up. I knew this would cause a blister, and the left boot was too narrow across the toes due to a bunion surgery I had some years back (and also due to the left boot being narrower), so we sent them back for a 9-1/2. Box #2, size 9-1/2: Tried these on today, and guess what? My heel slips out the back! Now I've started thinking, are these made for men? Because I have quite a bit of room in the toe box also. There is no way I'm going back to a 9. The workmanship on these is better - at least these two are the same size (I'm a Virgo so you bet I inspect everything for symmetry!), but the shafts are not the same height, and inside one of the straps is sewn on crooked and not tacked all the way down. Even if they did fit better and I was to keep them, these things would bother me. Sadly, this pair will be going back too. I was hoping to wear them today to start breaking them in for SXSW (it's an Austin thing), but I guess I will try the Harley-Davidson Hustins that someone here mentioned. Thanks anyway, Zappos!

This review will be helpful for any lady who's got big feet that are narrow, and skinny calves. Got my first pair of Frye Boots as a Christmas present from my boyfriend. He read all the reviews and chose this style from all the positive feedback. He ordered me an 11 and in the Smoke Old Town. My initial response was that they looked big and clunky. I also wasn't a huge fan of the height it was sort of an awkward in the middle of the calf boot, which makes it unable to wear under boot cut jeans. The color was okay, but I wasn't nuts about it either. However I wanted a comfortable good quality boot so I tried to stay open minded. The 11 was huge everywhere. My entire foot, ankle and calf were swimming in them. Huge bummer, so I exchanged them for a 10. The 10 came the very next day (Zappos is awesome) and while the fit was better in my foot, my ankle was completely unsupported and my calf was swimming it the boot. I worried about the leather stretching more and that I would get rubs on the soles of my feet from all the sliding. Since there is no way I am going to fit in a 9.5, I am sadly going to have to try another style and or brand.

Based on most of the reviews, I ordered both a 7.5 and a 7. The 7.5 was huge and I could barely get my foot in the 7. Unfortunately, they both have to be returned. I think this just isn't the right style for my foot. They are really cute boots, if you find a pair that actually fits.

These are beautiful boots but have no give. It looks like a side zipper in the image. If you have very high arches you will not be able to get your foot in this boot. Had to return.
