I wear an 8 1/2 in shoes and the 8 1/2s in these fit perfectly. These boots look badass with jeans, but I also wore them with black leggings and a black sweater, and it looked very upscale weekend-ish, so very versatile. Absolute love!

OMG! I am totally in love with these boots! I had a pair of Frye's when I was a kid. These have the broken in look. :) I love that they are made in America too. I slept with them on the first night!

Buying this boot was an investment purchase for me. With that said I have donated all of my other boots with the exception of a nice pair of Cowboy boots:) I did read the reviews and ordered a 1/2 size smaller. NOTE: my calves are not model 'skinny' so I did have to order several pair to get the right fit (not to snug they go mid calf). The shafts did vary in diameter (yes I measured them). The trial and error to get just the right fit was well worth it and made easier by Zappos excellent customer service. I am very pleased with them and have recieved many compliments on the style. Also I recommend buying the Frye oil to treat the leather don't panic they will initially look DARKER but the original color returns *mine are Smoke Old Town.

I love these boots! This was my first pair of Fryes and my favorite to date. The Smoke Old Town color is a perfect neutral brown and the leather feels heavy and durable yet soft to the touch. In shoes I am usually between a 9½ and 10; I ordered a 9½ in these and they fit perfectly, even if my socks are a little bit thicker. I have wider feet so the squared toe makes these very comfortable in comparison to other boots. I also have a high instep, so they take a little tugging to get on at first, but they really do loosen up after only a few wears. Everything about the sole feels well-made, too. The outsole is a thicker rubber with decent traction, and the heel feels solid and give the boot a heavier feel. All in all a great pair of boots that seems worth the money.

This are this best boots I've ever owned and my favorite. I've had them since 2005 and they only get better with time.

I absolutely love these boots. I have had them for two years. I wear them year round with shorts and skirts/dresses in the summer and skinny jeans, regular jeans or whatever in the other seasons. They are super cute and comfortable. I wear a 7 or 7½ in most shoes though occasionally a 6½. I got these in a 7 and they slipped some when I first got them and were snug across the top of my foot. I have average to slightly narrow feet and 13¾" calves. Overtime the boots have gotten much looser and almost sloppy loose but in the winter I still can comfortably wear thick, cozy socks. They have never rubbed blisters or hurt my feet, even after walking miles and miles in them in one day (on multiple occasions). Sometimes I have to force myself to wear other shoes. I think they look better now than when I bought them. After two years of heavy usage, there is only slight wear on the outer back edge of the heels from the way I walk. They are well worth the money! I just purchased another pair of different Frye boots so now I will have two to alternate between.

I love, love, love them! I finally splurged after looking at these Frye boots for years. I have seen girls wear them and always wanted a pair. So, I bought a pair in black and brown, and plan to have them forever, so I don't regret it a bit! The more I wear them the better they get!

I received my Frye Harness 12R Color: Smoke Old Town in 8.5 size boots today. I like them so very much and plan to order another pair. I had a shady start with the first order (the Dark Brown Polished Stonewash Frye Harness 12R). They were so irregular in size and in color. The picture shows the boots to be a dark chocolate brown and polish. I know that color can be off online, but this was not even close. I return three pairs before I got a home run. Now this pair, the Smoke Old Town--Frye Harness 12R, they are identical to the picture online. I am so glad I didn't give up and decided to give it one more try. These boots are a beautiful rich brown. The size is true to size and I know that they are going to be very comfortable. I tried them on and they fit great. What I notice on most of the reviews is that not many mention which boot they are writing about. With all this said I am so happy with my boots!

Love these boots. Super comfortable right away. They wear well and they last. My first pair is now >10 years old and I still wear them...just wanted to refresh.

This is my 4th pair of Fryes, I love them! These are my absolute favorites. Casual yet classic. I am a 9 normally and a 8.5 in Fryes but these are a bit bigger. I should have gotten an 8!

Just received my Fryes in tan, size 8. They fit perfectly and I can tell we are going to be long time friends, already. The leather is a bit stiff, but it won't take long to break in. I'm ready to go back for another pair already!

I also waited a long time before i took the plunge. My last Frye boots were back in 1979! I ordered the 15 inch harness boot. I love the taller version. I did have to return at least 2 pairs, some for color, the boots didn't match. And one pair for fit, one boot was difficult to walk in. As always Zappos took care of it without any problems. Finally I was happy with the ones I know live in. Lots of complements no matter when or how I wear them. They do take a bit of time to break in. I also wear them with or without socks, such a great buy! I normally wear a 7-7.5, so I ordered a 7 in these. Perfect, snug but because of the leather and being pull on boots I wouldn't want them any other way.

I absolutely love these boots. They are so versatile and comfy. I wear them constantly! I found that they run very true to size. The first few times I wore them they were a bit stiff and required a boot height shoe horn.

First, I will say I'm a Frye fanatic. I'm on my fourth pair now, but these Harness 12R boots were my first. The boots are so well made and I have no doubt someday I will pass them on to my daughter...when I'm in my 80's! I jumped into the land of Frye because of a friend that has had her Harness 12R for 20 years, yes, they are that well made. I often have people stop and ask me where I got my boots. I have had mine for close to three years now and due to the industrial sole on these, there is little visible wear. They take a few weeks to break in, but once broken in, they mold to your feet and are like your favorite pair of jeans. The only con is they are heavy, and I personally can't wear them for a full day of walking just due to the weight. I don't really consider this a con though, the leather is thick on these and the sole heavy duty, so it is to be expected that they will be heavy. I condition my boots every few months and the leather continues to soften. They are great with skinny jeans, skirts and of course shorts.

I have had these boots for about 3 years now and they just get better with age! I originally bought these to ride bike with but the more and more that I wear them the better they get so I find myself wearing them more and more often. I get such compliments on them! I got the tan, in a 5.5M which is normally what I wear. These look great with skinny jeans and they hit on the leg just right for me. I am a little over 5' so if you are taller you might want to get a higher shafted boot. I cant say enough about these boots! They were my first pair of Frye's and since I have bought one more pair. I am in the market for another pair though! These are expensive but they are a boot that you will have forever! THANK YOU FRYE!

Like other reviewers, I am in love with my boots. They are supremely comfortable, and they manage to stay comfortable over a full day's wear. They were a little stiff initially, but after about a week of daily wear, I stopped noticing the stiffness. Maybe I just got used to them or maybe that's how long it took to break them in -- not sure. Also, as other reviewers have noted, there might be some inconsistencies in the manufacturing of the boots. After ordering my first pair of boots, I discovered a defect in the stitching on the sole of one shoe, but Zappos was awesome enough to overnight me another pair and I swapped the defective shoe with a good one. I got the Dark Brown Crazy Horse, which is hardly a dark brown; it's more of a medium tan, but it's a very versatile color and goes well with lots of looks. These boots are adorable with jeans as well as with skirts. I'm a big fan and am glad I finally made the leap to buy a pair of Fryes even though they cost an arm and a leg...

I love these boots! They take a while to break in, but once they do, they're great! I wear them with and without socks. I did have to send my first order back though. Although the box said black size 6, the boots inside were distressed grey in not sure what size, but too big. I return them, got credit and a new pair were sent the next day. This was a big dollar purchase for me, but so glad I bought them!

I am in love! I wanted these boots for years, but I just could not justify the money. Finally I decided that I deserved them and took the plunge! I am ecstatic! The reviews were mixed so I went with my true size 7½, and they seem fine. Yes, there is some heel slippage, but I just do not see how I could wear a 7. I am fine with these, and I wear thick socks anyway and an orthotic so there is not really an issue. I ordered the Chocolate Vintage and the color is incredible. I had to order two pairs though, as the first pair the boots did not match. One was lighter than the other and I did not like it. The second pair was not perfect but much better so I am keeping these. I find this happens a lot with Frye and the mismatching. Annoying but I do not blame Zappos. The boots are comfortable and go with everything. I am very pleased and when I can afford it plan to buy another color. These are built to last!

Been wanting these boots for a long time. Finally decided to get them. So glad I did! They are beautiful! I did have to size down. I am usually an 8 1/2 and had to exchange for an 8. They fit great, gorgeous boots! And customer service was awesome, you guys rock!

Truly beautiful, well-crafted boots in the tradition of Frye, with a deep, rich, warm brown tone. Be aware that the toe area comes darkened, which may not be apparent in the image online. My one and only issue: These boots are so hefty that when shipped (Zappos does not take particular care with shipping boots by packing them tightly in their box OR by adding a bit of extra padding between each boot in the Frye box), they bang around during shipping causing the boots to become marred. It's a really bummer when beautiful boots come with one big dent in the toe that can't be removed. This is the second time I've ordered boots from Zappos that have been shipped and damaged in this way. Extra care in shipping would be advisable. Such a great company. You'd think they'd figure this out.

This is possibly the most beautiful boot I have ever seen. The grey is amazing, the harness is edgy and cool. They are so well made and will last forever. They feel like I could walk forever in them.

Greatest boots ever! I just got them today and they look and feel wonderful! I am so glad I made the choice to get them. I kept debating on these and another brand however I certainly made the right choice! You will too if you get a pair of these. Again, the service from Zappos...amazing! Opened the box and fell in love! Got them in Redwood. Put them on hated to take them off! They are gorgeous! I generally wear an 8 in Fryes and a 8.5 in regular shoes [Clarks, Born, etc. 8 1/2's. In Lucchese boots I wear a 7.5. Just for reference.] These fit great right out of the box, if I wanted to wear them without socks I could have gone a full size smaller. I like socks so 1/2 size smaller was just right for me.The color is gorgeous and the boots are so well made. They will last me for years! Love them! So cute with skinny jeans tucked in. Can't wait for the weather to cool down so I can wear them all the time!
