I have owned these boots for ten years. I have worn them in the Colorado River and in the snow in Michigan. I have been in thick clay and climbed the mountains in them. have worn with shorts; skirts; and tights. Worn them in all seasons. Sexy as all hell. People come up to me in airports and ask about these boots. I got them in less than 24 hours from Zappos. I have never worn them with socks. I love these boots. I am 58 years old. I will treasure these all my life.

These boots are fabulous! Order a 1/2 size down or you'll just be exchanging them later. The tan is even more beautiful in person. I'd recommend buying the Frye weatherproof spray and treating them before wearing. Also, some people said that they were concerned about the heel slipping. All cowboy boots should have some heel slippage, and if they don't, then they're too small. The slippage gives your foot room when you walk, and with time, the leather will soften and slippage will be less. So if your heel slips a little as you walk, it doesn't mean it's too big. It means it's just right.

I love these boots and have them in my regular size in the tan. All my boots are classic Fryes and when Frye gets it right, they are fantastic, but I have found that I've had to kiss a lot of frogs to find my princes! Frye quality control is absolutely shameful. I have the 8R version of this boot, and had to order five pairs to see which fit best and which had the best leather. On some of the boots, the leather was just nasty, thin, wrinkled and sub standard. I've also had pairs of Fryes where there was a clear difference in the height of each boot! I once contacted the company about this, but sadly, it would seem that they don't stand by their products.

I received my first pair of Frye Harness 12R as a Christmas gift...I had been lusting over them for over a year. I ended up ordering 3 pairs before finding my perfect pair. I had read many reviews and decided to size down to an 8 1/2; I'm a 9 in most shoes and boots. The first pair was a Tan 8 1/2 which were almost impossible to get on. I did not love the color as it had too much green undertones. I then ordered a 9 in the Smoke Old Town; talk about a gorgeous color; they're dark brown with black and tan distress undertones. Absolutely GORGEOUS...too bad they were HUGE. I ordered my 3rd and final pair in the Smoke Old Town in an 8 1/2...THEY ARE PERFECT!!! Kudos to the Zappo's team for making my shopping experience both painless and super quick. They took about 2-3 wears to break in and are now a staple to many outfits; including jeans and dresses!! I feel like a total badass when I wear them. I cannot wait to have years and years of use of these beautifully crafted boots. Enjoy ladies!!!

I've been looking for an everyday casual "go-to" boot for 2 years, and since I narrowed it down to Fryes for their classic timelessness, I must have overlooked these boots countless times online. Instead chose the Veronica Slouch boot, which I returned. As soon as I tried on the Harness 12R it was love at first sight! I got the tan...a perfectly indistinct color somehow between brown, olive, grey and camel, that goes well with jeans and just about anything else. I got the matte surface leather, a softer, more subtle and muted color/texture than the vintage leather. You should know...they are a bit stiff, will require breaking in. Somewhat narrow and hard...if you have a wide foot you might have trouble. And they run large. I usually wear a 9M but returned them for an 8 1/2M, which fits perfectly. So glad my boot shopping days are over. I love these boots!

Love the boots! A real pain in the A$$ to get on and off. I'm hoping that gets easier as the boots get "worn in". Great once they are on.

I have been obsessed with these boots for years and finally took the plunge and purchased them. I absolutely love them but I think it's important to note that these boots are made to last a lifetime and as such, they are thick, heavy, and take a long time to break in. However, they are a fabulous addition to any wardrobe and I get a ton of compliments on them every time I wear them. And I plan on wearing them for years to come!

Wow! What am I going to do now?! Guess I'm a new Harness 12R gal! Just ordered my first-ever Fryes before Christmas - Paige Stud & Melissa Harness, both size 6, & love them. Thought I'd like to try a shorter boot since I'm petite 5'2". Read lots of the reviews on the Harness 12Rs (there's about 850 which sure says something!), so figured I'd give them a try. I really wanted the Tan Vintage, but it wasn't available so after much deliberation I settled on the Dark Brown Crazy Horse (which is an Old Town Leather - their thickest type leather according to Frye Customer Service) and again size 6, half size smaller than I wear in shoes, as suggested in most of the reviews. They arrived 3 days ago. Size is right & love the color - kind of a golden tan with lots of dark brown variations & some texture on the shaft. Really a sweet tuff chick look! As everyone says, they are very thick leather & very stiff & hard to get on at first, even with my narrow feet. (by contrast the Paige & Melissa Harness are very wonderfully soft, supple) But I used plastic bags & my feet slid right in, wore them around the house like that a few hours & could feel the leather softening some. They are also a little gappy around my calves but I have slim calves about 12"-13", probably couldn't wear them with bare legs, don't know may try it anyway with a skirt or tights or skinnies. The only problem is one boot is dark & the other is noticeably lighter. I called Zappos & they've already shipped me a replacement pair at no extra charge. Zappos is fantastic as usual! In the meantime, the Tan Vintage became available, so I had to order them & they arrived today, thus my dilemma! I like them both! The tan vintage is a little softer leather (my feet slid right in no problem, very comfortable!) & gorgeous color - mixed soft tans, grays, chocolate with a slightly crackled, sparkly texture that is truly beautiful. Don't panic - the sparkly is not bling, more like a very teeny muted understated glittery effect that's way cool! My husband wasn't crazy about the Crazy Horse, but when he saw the Tan Vintage, now he wants a pair! Yahoo! I'm hoping the replacement Crazy Horse pair is okay, 'cause I have a feeling I want to keep both colors even though they're expensive! By the way, I called Frye to find out the difference in the Old Town, Vintage & the Pebbled Full Grain leathers (Zappos doesn't seem to carry the Pebbled, too bad). They told me Old Town is thickest, strongest & rustic, Vintage is thick & distressed, Pebbled Full Grain is softest. Hope that helps, but with Zappos free overnight shipping & returns, you can try several styles, colors and leathers!

These were my first Frye boots since I was a teenager in the 70's, and I have been wearing them for several years now. Thought I would give a report. After 2 years of very frequent wear they look pretty much the same as the day I bought them, though the creases around the ankle have settled a little. The shaft has not collapsed, and they hold their shape well. I bought mine a half size smaller than my usual size. At the time, this seemed obvious, since they are long in the toe. Since wearing them around a lot, I am not sure I did the right thing, as they can pinch a bit after about 6 or 7 hours of walking around. But they do feel large when you first try them on, and I am not sure that I should have taken my normal size; as I wrote, it takes 6+ hours of walking before the pinching begins, and it is minimal. The leather looks essentially brand new, and the soles are doing fine. The sales girls in the juniors section of my regular department store compliment me - you know that's gotta mean something - and my daughter stopped telling me that I dress like a hobo. I hope that I will last as well as these boots.

Footwear Hall Of Fame Entry - This city chicken recently acquired these boots after finding them in a most unexpected venue. I was so excited that I literally wore them out of the store. I work in a very upscale, fashion-aware enviroment, no stranger to the fashions heirarchy, and these have held their own with many, many compliments and inquiries. In a word, people are jealous! I own one other pair of Fryes, a black lace-up. After fifteen years of hard use, they're still roadworthy and, believe it or not, still garner the compliments. These are amazing boots. From the beginning, they were an all day wear. Frye deserves complete respect and admiration for continuing to produce a product that has upheld quality, durability and desirability. The weathered brown color is completely wonderful and authentic in all ways. The construction is amazing and comfortable. They have a western edge, but in a subtle and fashion forward sense. These boots leave no doubt that they could go through hell and high water! They have my vote for inclusion into the fashion hall of fame. P.S. Ralph Laurens' stylists use lots of Frye products for their shoots and runways. LOVE!

I bought these because all the online reviews said they were so comfortable. Well, I have had them for a year now and I want to cry every single time I wear them. I wore them everywhere almost every day for the first 3 months I had them and then sporadically thereafter. I made the mistake of trying to break them in the very first time when I went to Vegas. Obviously, that was a disaster. The leather at the ankles creases in a bad spot and pushes against my ankles. Even with a thick piece of molefoam and rolled up socks shoved between my ankle and the boot, they are still terribly uncomfortable. I even had a boot store stretch them for me for a week and no dice. I talked to a friend who also had these and she said the exact same thing. She doesn't even bother trying to wear them anymore. I have no idea why anyone would say these are at all comfortable and why nobody's reviews say anything about this pain. Maybe I just have a faulty pair of boots, or weird ankles. There's absolutely no padding on the bottoms either, so regardless of the ankle situation it feels like you're walking on wood. Do yourself a favor and don't buy them until you try them on in the store at the very least. If you choose to buy these, you should get a half size smaller. I normally wear a size 7 and I bought a 6.5 which fit fine. Your heels will always slip out no matter what size you buy. That's just the design of the slip-on boot. They are pretty heavy, but they will never fall off. The calf openings are larger so if you have skinny chicken legs like I do then the boots stick out a bit, but they still look great.

It’s 2018. I bought these in 2007... it’s a shame, because these are MY FAVORITE FOOTWEAR. I don’t think I own any shoe older than this, yet these still earn compliments on a regular basis. They are the next best thing to house slippers, literally. SO comfortable. I had them re-soled once, get then polished regularly, wear them primarily as my first choice with jeans during fall/winter/spring (really - just when I can’t wear flip flops). You can’t go wrong here. Pro tip: if you’re wearing your boots while traveling, it’s a sin to skip a boot polish in terminal B at Denver. Your boots and feet will thank you!

This is my first pair of Frye boots and I love them! I have always purchased Lucchese boots in the past but thought I would try something different this time and I'm so glad that I did. It took me several tries to get the style and color right though. I started with the Belted Harness boots (which the color, Distressed Chestnut is my favorite and is exactly like the color in the pictures) but they looked too bulky around the 'belted harness' area and too loose at the calves. Then I went with the Belted Harness, which is the style I originally liked anyway. First I ordered the color Old Smoke Town, which is a very dark, espresso brown and decided that was too dark for me. Then I ordered the Belted Harness in Tan, which I really liked but they were darker than the pictures portrayed. Next, and finally, I ordered the Dark Brown Crazy Horse. Just be warned that this color is much darker than they actually are (just a tad lighter than Tan - makes me sad because I liked the Dark Brown Crazy Horse color in the pictures better), but I love the style, so they are keepers! As for the fit of the boot, I always wear a 7 B/M (except in Cole Haan I wear a 7.5) and the 7's fit perfectly. I have to work to get them on and off though - no biggie as I'm sure they will loosen up with wear. They fit nicely at the calf area with a little extra room for jeans (my calves are regular to small size). I'm 5'6" and the height hits just at mid-calf. One reason I chose this style over other Frye's is because of the sole. Instead of leather, that is originally slick and wears fairly quickly (I know you can get the sole replaced but...), they are made of Firestone Tire material - which I like for a change! Overall great boots! Very pleased with my purchase (or investment!)! Oh, and this was my first purchase from Zappos and it will not be my last! The free shipping both ways is so nice (especially when you need to order several pairs before you get it right)!

I have had completely ridiculously poor experiences shopping from another well-known shoe website, and decided to try Zappos again. I am blown away by the customer service and the genuine efforts of the team to ensure I had a good shopping experience and was shipped a solid, quality product. Frye products are legendary, but I do not think that gives them an excuse to rest on their laurels. They need better quality control. That being said, four pairs of boots later, I have a lovely, comfortable, perfectly patinaed pair of harness boots. They absolutely run half a size too large, but once you find the right pair, you will want to live in them! Thank you!

I just received my boots and I am glad I listened to the reviewer that is a size 9.5-10 with a wide foot and ordered the size ten. I struggled to get my foot in by stamping them down and once my feet are in they are roomy with the right amount of slippage in the heel. Yay, these boots are hot in a sexy tough sort of way! I have started to buy things that are of quality and last and these fit the bill. Also what quick delivery, I ordered yesterday and they arrived this morning, Zappos you are the best. I will only order from you from now on!

I love these boots and when I found them on sale I went crazy and bought the charcoal and the worn brown crazy horse color. I am 53 and took the advice of the 58 year old...I'm going to wear them everywhere and enjoy 'em! I have always loved Frye and know the boots will last forever. I always wear my boots without socks, like a hockey player goes sockless in their skates to mold the leather to their feet.

I have owned these boots in Camel color, for almost 10 years. I bought them when I lived in Portland, Or where it rains all winter long. They are built to last! I wondered when I would ever break them in, as it did take a while. I live in Atlanta now and wear them year round. They're so cute with tights and sweater dresses! Love them with my skinny jeans, and long sundresses in the summer. People still compliment me on these boots as they will never go out of style!

After years of coveting these boots I bought the harness 12R in black. I am a pretty true size 10 in everything from sandals to heels so I went with a 10 because all of the other reviews on sizing were confusing. My feet a fairly wide and my calves are not big, but they are muscular. My right foot is a little wider than the left. The 10 fits like a dream, I had a mini orgasm when I took them out of the box and put them on. They are so soft, and so comfortable. I will have to break them in a little to make them less stiff and hopefully be able to wear thicker socks with them this winter. The 12R are good because the shaft is shorter for girls that do not have stick calves. I think I can even get my skinny jeans under them. Buy them, you will not regret it!

Frye's Biker Boot-Womens. When Stevie Nicks sang " I wear boots all summer long" she touched my boot strings. I wear boots all year long, no matter the weather. Despite all my boots vintage and new, and as an old lover of the biker/engineer/cowboy variety, these are the most amazing in my possession. I have never worn such comfortable boots, stunning with vintage Levi's or my Donna Karen long evening dress, dress em up or down. The more beat up they are, the better. Look good on the feet or hanging on my wall. Keep up the great design, Frye's, us hippy cowboy girls need these boots...

I'm in love with these boots! I ordered a 1/2 size up because I have wide feet, and guess what?, I have no problems getting them on or off. The toe bed does not squash my toes and the width feels good. There is slippage in the heel, but I would rather have that than have squashed toes. I think I may just put an insert in to prevent that or maybe some heel grips. I got these boots in charcoal and it is nice to have non-black shoes for once. Thank you, Zappos!

I ordered a pair of these boots recently. I am very impressed with the quality and they look like they will go with many items of clothing. I had to have a cobbler stretch them to fit my 16" calves, though, so consider that if you have wide calves too.

These boots are quite an investment but they are so worth it. They are well-made and work with any look. The sizes do run a bit big and they take a bit of wearing-in before they're comfortable, but I'm very happy with my purchase.

Finally! The boots I've been looking for. They look fantastic, are sturdy, and surprisingly warm. Start without socks until you wear them in...or maybe you'll never wear socks with them. Note: they bleed color on your legs and feet a bit.
