These are literally the best shoes Ive ever owned and Im not exaggerating. They started as a recovery shoe and turned it all, never want to take them off shoe. They are fantastic for post run, hike, climb, ski, whatever. Unbeatable.

Perfect blend of mountain running shoe and hiking boot. Best of both worlds with none of the downside.

I've been super excited for Arc'teryx to put out a competitive approach shoe and they nailed it with the Vertex. Out of the box, they feel super narrow in the midsole area, so much so that I didn't think I would be able to wear them. Fortunately, after just a couple hours in them, they broke in nicely. If you have wider feet, be patient with them as they'll feel way tight.
Once broken in though, the shoe feels great. Superior comfort, modern lacing system, and functional performance make this a top tier approach shoe. The rubber feels pretty sticky and the shoes hold a decent edge as well. This shoe feels way less clunky than other approach shoes on the market and is definitely geared more towards long days scrambling in the mountains and moving fast. They are light weight yet very supportive and feel like they will hold up for a long time. The vertex is a great addition to your kit if you are pursuing modern, fast and light climbing days in the mountains.

I've been waiting for a shoe like this for a while now. Perfect balance between an approach shoe with a trail runner. I have a wide toe box, so I was hesitant to purchase when I read they run on the narrower side. That being said find them roomie enough for running, but narrow enough for edging. Perfect for big days in the San Juans!

I got this shoe as an approach shoe, but have found myself using it pretty for pretty much everything. Really comfortable and it looks great to!

These shoes look and feel great. They have enough stiffness to make a great scrambling shoe - but enough flex to be comfortable as on the approach in. I also love that they are goretex - as this makes some of the snow covered approaches a little more manageable, and I don't have to worry about trying to climb with trench foot after a sloshy approach.
I sized down in these. I'm usually an 8.5, and while 8.5 would have been fine as a hiking shoe, I wanted a tighter fit for scrambling/climbing.

I've had these shoes for a couple of weeks and they are great! Good toe protection for the sharp granite in New England. Nice stiffness to the sole which offers some protection to the arch of your foot. Super light. Great slip-on setup with a nice little lace tuck in the tongue. I love them!

These held strong through the mud, snow and ice this weekend all the way to the top of Twin mountain in the Catskills of upstate NY. They don't give an inch of slippage even on a slanted rock face on approach. Would highly recommend!

I bought this shoe to replace my Norvan GTX that held up great to everything in Strathcona on Vancouver island. So far this shoe feels great with a comfortable toe box. Can't wait to put them through the test

Great addition to the Vertex lineup, this shoe gives me the traction and support necessary for more technical trails. Would like a zip-lace version as seen with the Aerios Nivalis.

It's a great shoe, light, snug fit (sock fit) and ideal for treking. The downside, which is a personal preference for me, is having to use two hands to pull on the shoe. Where as before, I've used one or no hands.

Awesome shoe, climbs well but approaches much better than a normal approach shoe. Goretex and built in gaiter work great for snow crossings and keeping dirt out. They do run a bit big and I downsized a half size.

These are my favorite arcteryx shoes so far a though i wish the tongue wasnt so tight but maybe it will loosen up with wear. Im on my second pair of the off-white ones and fresh outta the box walked 16000 steps each day for 4 days around Washington DC. We had lots of rain and covered a lot of ground but my feet stayed dry and supported the whole trip! The tread makes noise indoors but its worth it for the Vibram grip because i never slipped on wet marble steps at any monument or museum. The shoes continue to look great and am sure i will enjoy them for a long time!

I've been trying to break these shoes in for several weeks, to no avail. The two shoes are shaped differently, and the left shoe is so misshapen it is painful to wear. Look good on here, but absolutely would never buy again.

Have been wearing Arc'teryx gtx trainers for the last 2-3 years. They are exceptionally well made and durable, I wear them just every day and over rugged terrain when out with dogs. They are the best I have come across. I have recently purchased my 2nd pair. This time the Vertex Alpine GTX M and they are superb. Same excellent build quality and ruggedness but this time with the added "sock effect" around your ankles(not sure the exact name but a great addition) hopefully these will last as long as my last pair.highly recommend these trainers or any GTX trail teainer from Arc'teryx.

best approach shoes i have worn. seems like all the negative reviews on the vertex apline are from people who bought these for every purpose other than what the shoe was intended. these are not hiking shoes nor are they for casual wear, however if you want to walk around in them and flex the bird then more power to you. these are not running shoes, i couldn't even imagine running in these stiff soles. but if you run and they work for you, that's great. if you have a long approach and require hiking, i'd suggest a softer approach shoe built for all-around use. arcteryx gear is technical and specific to certain jobs, which can be overwhelming. big benefits include the lace pocket which keeps the laced tucked so they don't get stepped on or tangled in scrub. gore-tex keeps me dry when i'm trudging through snow. the sock liner keeps all the pea gravel and dirt out of the shoes and comfortably wraps around the ankle for support. vibram sole sticks to rock and keeps me stable. durable material doesn't fall apart when scraping through talus. super comfortable when navigating a gigantic scree field and gigantic talus all morning and back down after climbing. on flat trails, this shoe will feel strange on your feet. as soon as you leave the trail and need to scramble to your destination, it excels.

I am a huge fan of your brand - I own 4 pairs at this point. This shoe is fine but my favorite is still the Aerios and there NONE in my size (9.5). Is that something that may change in the future?

Sent back .l really wanted to like these shoes, but they were not comfortable and with the snug ankle portion made them to way hard to put on.
Oh well, otherwise great looking shoe .. just wasnt for me

I'm loving these shoes for trail running! While they do run a little long/big, their grip and stability on rocky and technical terrain are impressive.
As someone with narrow feet, I'm a bit cautious about the length in the toebox, especially for tackling 4th/low 5th class terrain. However, I'm planning to test them out on some upcoming alpine training trips and will provide an update on their performance.
