Bought these more for their looks than anything else; and they don't disappoint! Color is a true brown (no hints of burgundy) which makes for a classic/vintage look - exactly what I was looking for. They remind me exactly of the boots my grandpa wore when I was a little kid. Fit is definitely a little large - had to order three pairs before I found a good fit. Fortunately, this is a snap with Zappos (can't beat free shipping both ways!). Haven't walked too far in them yet to judge comfort, buy my initial impression is generally positive: They're more comfortable than my oxfords but less comfortable than my sneakers. Leather, stitching, and soles seem good quality - they feel durable and with basic care should hold up for a long time.

I am a carpenter, and my practice for many years is to purchase a shoe like this that I can wear both on and off the job. Typically, i'll get two pairs, wear one for work and one for dress. When the work shoe wears out, I'll cycle the dress shoe into work and get a replacement dress shoe to carry on the cycle. All of which is apropos of nothing except that these are the first shoes to have nearly stopped the cycle. These shoes are so well made that they have never come apart, split or failed in any way. The only reason I've retired the last pair is that the soles finally gave out. Typically, because I put a lot of stress and flex on my shoes by getting up and down off my knees all day, the uppers will eventually split from the soles. Not these. They are comfortable, reasonably priced, and good-looking.

Fit was perfect, shoes are comfortable and leather is good quality. One negative though, when I received them an eyelet was not fully seated. I took the shoe to a shoe repair store and found that the leather was torn and unable to be repaired. I contacted customer service and explained to them that I had already treated the shoes with a waterproofing spray, in light of that they are sending me a new pair (no charge) and told me to keep the damaged ones. Excellent customer service, fast, responsive, and easy (I used the text messaging customer service feature)

I have never had this kind of trouble with Rockports. I even had this same style, just older, and thus a different color. First, it was extremely uncomfortable around the ankle. I think maybe the stiff tongue rubbed a nerve ending. I literally couldn't walk in them for more than a few minutes. I tried to break them in though, since I knew my old pair was comfortable. It took weeks to break them in and when they finally did, they started squeaking. No amount of talcum powder would stop the squeak. I've never had such a bad experience with Rockport.
