This clog is a 5 star shoe when it fits properly. I am so unhappy because I have now tried the 38 (toes crunched, heel barely in) and the 39 (toes sliding everywhere, heel with 1 inch too much room). I have always worn a 38, which was always a U.S. size 8. I still have 3 pairs of Haflinger clogs, size 38, that fit perfectly which I bought about 5 years ago. Now, there is no size that fits. What in the world happened with the Haflinger sizing?! And what will I do without my clogs when my 3 pairs finally wear out?

I compared Haflinger, Stegman, Orthaheel, and Birkenstock wool felt clogs when looking for a winter slipper with good arch support for my injured foot. The Haflingers and Birkenstocks were the most expensive but were both very high quality construction. The Birkenstocks have a colder, harder leather/cork sole and open heel, so I chose the softer, wool-soled, closed-heeled Haflinger Grizzly for its warmth and slightly better looks. After a month of use I am very happy with my choice. The Haflingers provide excellent arch support, are very warm and comfortable, and I believe are the most true to size of the bunch. I have a very high instep on one foot that is always hard to fit and it was tight there at first, but after a few weeks the Haflingers stretched just enough to conform and become comfortable on that pressure point. The wool felt on the Haflingers is substantially thicker than the others, which makes them stiffer when bending or kneeling - but they're very solid underfoot for walking or standing. A very nicely made, quality product - a good value for the money.

I ordered these shoes based on the comfort of a pair of Haflinger slippers I own. I ordered a size 38 (I normally wear a 39) after reading the reviews that I had read about the shoe running large. They were not only large, they were huge! I made the mistake of wearing them with a very thick pair of socks out of doors and can't return them. They are so wide that I can barely keep them on my feet and I have a wide foot. Even with an extra insole in them they are too floppy. Additionally, the stitching inside is rough and irritating. Big mistake on my part!

I love these shoes. I recommend them to anyone who has trouble with their feet. I have rheumatoid arthritis and suffer from joint pain in my feet. Haflinger clogs make it bearable, unlike other shoes that make my feet hurt worse. I wear them from fall through Spring. I would also recommend them to anyone who has to be on their feet for a long period of time. They are warm and extremely comfortable.

I don't really want to confess how many of these Haflinger's I have, but this is my third pair of this style. The color is amazing and adds a little zing to what might otherwise just be felt clogs. I love how they keep my feet dry, not hot, and are very comfortable to wear for hours at a time. The only place they might not be so good would be in a health care or cooking environment. On the advice of a salesperson I always treat the cork with a formulation to preserve its integrity. You can use rubber cement, like I used to on Birkenstocks, or the other specific coatings now available. With this treatment the shoes have held up well for years. The only repairs have been to re-stitch the leather band at the back after several years of use--I did this with my sewing kit and a thimble. If you like this style, they will make your feet happy. I usually war a 40 or 41, and take a 40 in Haflingers.
