Wide shoe. My foot narrows in the middle and at the heel. This is an oval shaped foot so if you're one of the 33% of women with a wide toe and narrow heel, I don't think this shoe will work well. Also, it's very clunky and heavy. It does, however, have an excellent sole but other than that, it felt a little like a brick.

These things are like a brick. I live in Seattle and wanted a sturdy shoe that would work in the rain, and on trails. I think this shoe is actually *more* than I bargained for. It has absolutely no flexibility, and I'm sure it's plenty waterproof, but I can't imagine feeling sure-footed in these in wet weather. Maybe they're great once you break them in, but I do not have the patience to find out. Returning.

Wide shoe. Definitely an oval shape. I am one of the 33% of the female population who have a wide toe and narrow heel. This shoe does not narrow in the middle to snugly fit my foot. It does have an excellent sole but the shoe is stiff and clunky. It feels a little brick like. I am returning it.

I bought these for a trip to Alaska and they served me quite well. I wanted a sturdy shoe, which they definitely are. I've worn Merrells alot over the years & thought these were comfortable enough & supportive.
