Timbuk2

Timbuk2 Logo
Timbuk2 was founded in 1989 by a bike messenger who taught himself to sew. In his San Francisco garage, Rob Honeycutt pioneered custom manufacturing and in doing so, created Timbuk2's icon, the Classic Messenger Bag. Timbuk2 is an industry leader in sustainable urban manufacturing, continuing its legacy of manufacturing in the Mission District of San Francisco, since day one. Through the years, Timbuk2 has grown to include innovative laptop backpacks and briefcases, totes, luggage and accessories, all backed by a lifetime warranty, and all designed to help you outsmart the challenges of your urban life.

As one of the leading brands in urban lifestyle bags, Timbuk2 shines on. Tried and true fabric defines their largest collection of styles. In addition, you won’t find any environmentally harmful polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in their bags. Timbuk2 takes pride in their PVC-free liners, which are just as durable and waterproof as vinyl but more supple. Best of all, these liners are better for the environment, which makes everybody happy.

Great, innovative design is part of the driving force behind Timbuk2. Developing and designing durable, multifunctional bags for today’s brave commuters is what they do best. From their authentic working class roots in the bicycle messenger subculture, to their remarkable transformation into a hip, urban fashion accessory, Timbuk2 is a brand with authenticity, heritage and a loyal following.

In 2014, Timbuk2 committed to putting zero bags in landfills. This promise is supported with a program to repair, donate or upcycle used bags. It's for all this, and more that Timbuk2 has a loyal following, worldwide.

I use this bag for my overnight calls at the hospital. My 13in laptop, toiletries, and charger fit in the small inner bag. My food for my shift fits in the brown bag. I like it because I usually come in with two bags at the beginning of my shift and leave with one. The fabric is easy to clean if it gets dirty.

I guess I misunderstood the term ‘strap drop’ Which is only 18”. It makes this perfectly sized messenger bag nearly impossible to wear as a cross body bag. Worn as I wanted to wear it, the bag hangs directly at my waist when I would prefer it to hang at my lower hip. Sorry to have to return it, but may search other bags in this brand for a suitable replacement.

Got it for her my sister's entry into university. My Timbuk2 has perfectly lasted me through uni all those years w/o any wear (save one zipper leather older that broke in the 3rd year of usage). So i feel confident that this bag will guide her through uni as mine did for me! My sister looooves all the pockets and straps and the overall look. Thanks Timbuk2!

Swig Backpack

  • Overall5Rated 5 stars out of 5
  • Comfort

High level summary: The Swig is a great commuter bag in that it's flat/unobtrusive, has tons of compartments to keep you organized, and the buckles are not very easy to unbuckle which elevates the security level for protecting your possessions. The Cloud color is beautiful in person, and I think the bag looks better in real life than the photos. Highly recommend! More detailed review: I've been in the market for a backpack with good organizational features, like plenty (and a wide variety) of well-designed pockets. While I wasn't initially the biggest fan of the Swig (relative to some of its sleeker-looking peers), it definitely is top notch when it comes to pockets! All the compartments really enable you to stay organized so your backpack doesn't become one giant black hole, which I've found to be my #1 complaint for other backpacks I own. The buckles do require a little strength to pinch, which does make me feel more secure in terms of pick pocketing. If someone did manage to open the main compartment without me realizing, there's also another zippered pocket inside that I use for my wallet for extra safeguarding! The one drawback is I haven't found a way to easily open the main compartment and dig around in the bag while slinging it off one shoulder (the way I normally would with a zippered backpack). The flap sort of gets in the way, but it's not a big deal to me. Color-wise, I got Cloud and can verify the photos on the website are pretty accurate. The middle panel is actually gray with a slight purple tinge in my opinion, which I love. The backpack wears quite comfortably. Note that it is 2.2 lbs, but the weight was not noticeable for me. I haven't tested this in the rain yet, but the main flap seems to be made of a water-resistant material. Based on that and feedback from fellow reviewers, I am pretty confident my stuff won't get soaked if I get caught in a storm. Overall, love this backpack and highly recommend!

I've had several sling-style bags over the years but as a "well-endowed" woman, most fit me so awkwardly that they get tossed in a closet. This bag works perfectly, just enough for a wallet, cell phone, keys, essentials for a nice walk or errands. And it'll last forever cuz it's Timbuk2!

The style and versatility of the bag are great. I love the fabrics. My only small gripe with it is that the backpack straps are a bit thin, which, when I carry heavier items, puts a bit of strain on my shoulders. Otherwise, I use this bag for everything and I absolutely love it.

This bag is almost perfect. If it was half an inch wider and had a more secure way to close it, not just velcro affixed to a narrow strap of webbing, it would be the perfect bag for me. My iPad is squished and makes it difficult to unzipped and the outer flap pulls against the Velcro because it is just a smidge too narrow.

I've known the quality bags since 90s back in the Philippines. Tgey last for years and if youbtaje care of it well maybe a lifetime. This bag was for my husband who commutes everyday. We also love to travel in different city and wanted to buy a day pack that is safe to us in public transit. So far, he loves the back pack because its also lightweight.

Size/style/finish can't really be faulted. Since I ordered the 'Scout' color (sort of an olive-tinted dark grey), I was obviously looking for 'inconspicuous', so reflecting 'logo' patches on the flap fastener strap tips aren't so good for that. On the other hand, purple for the 'hardware' (shoulder strap slider and flap fasteners) in this color combination is pretty inspired. Functionality-wise, I don't understand the Velcro in addition to the flap fasteners, and did this little bag really need Velcro this 'aggressive'? Pulling it apart is no small effort. Still, happy.

Product is really good quality, has that minimalist look and simple. The only thing I wished there was is a fabric lining inside. The inside is the suede part of leather. For the price and quality of construction, I was just surprised that there isn't any lining inside.
