Spira

Spira Logo
Spira is premised upon a proprietary unique shoe technology called WaveSpring™. Energy that is otherwise lost to the ground is recycled to the wearer, providing a remarkable combination of cushioning and energy return. Unlike traditional shoe midsoles made primarily of foams, rubber compounds, or polymers, WaveSpring™ technology stores and disburses energy with every step. Spira makes it easier to stand, walk, run and compete without the stress and fatigue associated with traditional shoe midsole materials. Spira heel and forefoot spring configurations are engineered for specific activities to meet individual needs. Traditional midsole materials work through compression and often breakdown quickly. The WaveSpring™ is mechanical. The spring will outlast the shoe. The wearer will have a "new shoe" feel from the first day it is worn to the last! Spira believes the WaveSpring™ technology will revolutionize the footwear industry as well as the purpose and function of footwear. Join the revolution with long-lasting, comfortable footwear that won't let you down.

These were honestly the worst shoes I have EVER tried! I have a size 6, extra wide foot. size 6 was like a 7 and a half. They just did not fit right anywhere.

Wow, do these run big. I've been wearing size 10.5 to 11 EE in New Balance or Brooks for years; while the EE part of this shoe fit nicely, to 10.5 part, unfortunately, didn't. I'll try a 10 and see what happens.

Gosh, I thought these were going to be so great . . . and I think they *are* a good quality shoe, but to be honest, they feel like those old oxford saddles I used to wear in middle school in the late 70's. That's to say, they're pretty stiff. I get it -- they prevent your foot from rolling but you get used to the light "nothingness" of shoes today -- and by comparison these make me feel like I'm walking around with one of those 1 lb wrap weights on my ankle. Can't say I love them but I'm going to keep trying to break them in. I walk 3 to 5 miles most days. The past couple days I can only do 3 wearing these. They do look sharp! They do seem a little roomy too. I ordered a 6.5, my usual size in a pump or sandal but in a tennis shoe, I normally size up based on the the thicker footy socks I wear. No need to size up and I am grateful to the others who commented to the same effect, letting me know which way to size. I did put my orthotic arch under the top pad and that helped alot with the extra roominess. They actually fit very nicely now and I do like the way they look, they're just heavier than I'm used to when walking.

I like these shoes, but they definitely have pros and cons. My favorite sports shoes for 4E feet are ASICS cross trainers. They are, unfortunately, no longer in production. I was fortunate enough to buy several pair before they disappeared. I now save them for sports so they last. So my hunt here was for a good every day walking shoe. This shoe is not perfect but, as of this week, it’s the best so far. Pros - Color- They are good looking. I bought the blue/white/silver shoe. When I first put it on it looked way to dark in the center, like saddle or golf shoes. The fault was the dark blue laces. I substituted light gray and they now look very stylish. Fit - still fooling with it. The insoles are flat, so they were wearable with my orthotics. But the feel while walking was a bit strange and the memory foam was pushed unevenly by my foot and orthotic. Now, they are gone, replaced by my always dependable Dr. Scholls pillow insoles. No rubbing, good width, I can wear them all day and my feet are not hurting. My back is OK too. Cons They are a bit heavy. However, since I am not wearing them for sports, this doesn’t bother me. They seem a bit warm. However, it’s summer now and my feet don’t sweat in them any more than normal. Nice mesh uppers probably help. They were initially a bit stiff, and could be more flexible. I feel like I am working them in and gradually we will get to a good spot together. Not quite there yet. I don’t get the spring thing. I don’t feel that at all. They are not as springy as my ASICs, but better than a pair of Orthofeet I tried which had no bounce at all. In both cases I did not use their insoles. Pricey- They are relatively expensive but look and feel like they are made very well. We fat footers can’t be too choosy. So, overall, I’m happy. Since I bought from Zappos and have worn them outside, I can’t return them. However, I don’t think they will join the many pairs of shoes I have thrown out because I just couldn’t make them work. These appear to be keepers and, if my luck holds out, I might even try a second pair. However, I would not recommend them for active sports.

These are the most comfortable shoes I think I’ve ever had. I require a 1/2 lift on my left shoes. Even with the lift these are amazing. Like walking on a cloud. Hope this helps .

Here’s the thing, I really wanted to like this shoe. I kept wearing these on walks in hope that they might not hurt the top of my foot, wear too stiffly, and just annoy me. I wear Men’s Brooks Ghost in 9.5 4 E because I have luau feet. I wanted a Women’s shoe to work sooo badly that I didn’t return them. I should have done so immediately.

The fit is really good on these shoes. I have a wide foot and the 4E width is hard to come by. Unfortunately, the shoes completely lack arch support. The insole is removable but it is completely flat. Do they assume you will add your own orthotic? They are a little more stylish than the usual wide shoe, although they still have the look of orthopedic shoes, in my opinion.

The size that I bought didn't fit correctly, it was too short and my toe bumps up against the end of the shoe and it felt too wide.

A 76-year-old women with arthritic toes, comfort is my first focus. These 8B shoes were long enough, but too tight over my big toe; the front of the shoe curves inward too soon for me. I'll be trying the 8.5 wide, as this size seems to work for most athletic-style shoes. This shoe is heavy compared to others I own, but I don't expect that to be a problem.

This is a tough review to write. This shoe would get 5 Stars straight across - it is by far the best-fitting, most comfortable shoe I have ever bought. Ever. It feels as if I went to the factory and they built this shoe from the bottom up around my foot. The width, toe box and heel fit my foot perfectly. The cushioning is really cloud-like. Here's why I can't give this shoe 5 Stars: there's a silly mesh on the outside of the shoes that is made of the flimsiest of monofilaments. And after only five or six days, the mesh on my left shoe is beginning to tear and disintegrate. In fairness to Spira, I believe the damage is being caused by the way I position my left foot on the floor mat while driving. BUT STILL, c'mon, Spira! If you're going to add a mesh for design and function, make sure it functions!

With the money I spent on these, they should have lasted me two years at least. However, within the first week the insole started to fall apart, leaving jagged holes all over the inside of them. They’re basically garbage now. With the money I spent on these, I could have bought three pairs of New Balance.

Overall a nice shoe, with two problems: 1. The tongue does not extend far enough - so the points dig into the ankle. It was very painful and made the shoe unwearable, unless you prefer not to tie your shoes! 2. I did notice some creaking when walking - I believe it is related to the "springs", but not sure. Zappos service was great, though!

This shoe felt comfortable right out of the box. I have never tried this brand and I am glad I did. I work out in a gym and I need a shoe that reduces stress on my limbs because I had knee surgery. In the gym, I could feel the cushioning underneath. The shoe has a lightweight overlay that you can use the pull tab under the laces to get on your foot. Zappos has the best selection of shoes!

Really great shoe, so comfortable, but one problem- the tongue of the shoe in shaped at the top with a dip and so the ends are higher than the middle and these ends stab into the ankle, quite painful. Since they are so perfect in every other way it’s off to the shop repair shop to see what can be done
