Smartwool

Smartwool Logo
SmartWool® is an apparel brand whose products are inspired by living and playing in the rugged Colorado Rocky Mountains. They offer year-round technical clothing for an active life lived in unpredictable mountain climates. Our products are created to get the most out of the inherent benefits of Merino wool while delivering extraordinary comfort and performance through smarter, more capable products that allow mountain athletes to do what they love to do longer.

They believe in the power of comfort. Simply put, it’s the belief that as long as you’re comfortable, you can do anything you put your mind to. Our lives and experience have given us a real understanding of what comfort means to a body in motion, and they’ve made it our mission to use this knowledge to help you better enjoy the outdoors. Staying comfortable all day, every day.

At the heart and soul of every SmartWool product is the amazing fiber they use: nature’s finest Merino wool. Used properly, they think it’s the best fiber available for outdoor apparel - manages moisture better than cotton, smarter than synthetics and more comfortable in any weather condition.

In our hands, it becomes extraordinary.

NOT ALL SHEEP ARE CREATED EQUAL: Introducing ZQ™
ZQ™ is an accreditation program, designed to ensure environmental, social and economic sustainability for growers, improve animal welfare and provide a means to trace end products back to the source.

By supporting ZQ™, they are supporting the ideology of fair trade. They encourage all companies, including our competitors, to do the same.

BEYOND THE FIBER
We make Merino wool more comfortable through innovative fabric creation and smart construction. Through specialized knitting technologies they’ve created fabrics that maximize the benefits of merino wool. They use smart garment construction to create products that offer the right amount of wool in areas where the body tends to chill and less where the body tends to run hot for maximum temperature regulating, comfort and performance.

EASY CARE:
Like you, they would rather be outside playing than inside doing laundry. So they’ve made most of our products easy care; meaning you can throw them in the washer and the dryer right along with the rest of your clothes. Just to be safe, though, always make sure you check the care label inside the garment.

SOME FUN SMARTWOOL FACTS
• One sheep “haircut” = One wool fleece = 10 pounds of wool = 40 pairs of SmartWool socks or 7 pieces of SmartWool Next-to-Skin Midweight
• An average SmartWool Sock has 500,000 individual fibers of wool.
• A standard cone of yarn weighs three pounds and has almost 25 miles of yarn. They use well over half a million cones of yarn a year – that’s enough to circle the earth 500 times. Talk about spinning a yarn.
• Merino sheep are fine boned and active with white wrinkled faces, white legs and pink noses. Rams have horns. They instinctively follow each other but don’t like to lead. All merino sheep are fluent in baah.

It says these large socks should fit shoe sizes 10-12.5. I wear a size 10 shoe and these socks are way too short, so I've rated it one star overall and for comfort. If the size large fit as advertised, then this product would be great. Too bad.

I loved the original hide and seek socks but like other reviewers I’m disappointed in the new design. They are now cut lower on the side of your foot which is good for concealment. But that lower profile means they do not stay on your heel even with the grippers. I would trade more visibility for a secure fit. I am having to discreetly pull up the socks everywhere I go, and having to walk on bunched up socks when I can’t fix them privately. I’m returning the other 2 pairs.

Very pleasant to wear. I wear them all day for walking and light exercise. Light enough to fit in shoes for which normal lightweight wool socks are too bulky. Perfect temperature control in warm weather. I wear a size 7 1/2 or 8 shoe and have narrow-ish ankles, though I’m not sure why some reviewers had an issue about these being tight at the ankle. They don’t go up that high. Medium fits me just right.

The fit was spot on for a large. This is my first wool shirt and I was not sure it would be worth the price but I have heard rave reviews for wool shirts so I decided to give it a try. I’ve worn this a handful of times and have been impressed. It does help maintain a comfortable temperature in both cool and warm temps and dries very quickly. It doesn’t hold a horrible smell like synthetic dry fit shirts and has been great when traveling/camping. I will be buying more of these shirts.

These are my first wool socks and won’t be my last. Like the other reviewer said, these are a bit think in a good way to give great cushioning when on your feet all day. The wool doesn’t hold moisture like cotton and doesn’t stink near as bad as synthetic socks. While I’ve only worn them a handful of times so far I think they will last and be worth the cost.

I have purchased these before and they are great socks. Nice fit, I'm a size 9 in shoes and the medium is perfect. Just the right thickness, imo, and soft. I found the purple color to be just as pictured.

These are thin wool socks, PERFECT for what I need. I will wear them in casual ankle boots through 3 seasons. Hard to find thin wool socks that fit me. I wear women's size 10 and cannot wear socks with slim calf width. Love these in men's Large. I tried the Medium first and could wear them but the size is marginal, yet the Large is not too big. They are thin but feel great, have some cushion, definitely warmer than cotton or poly socks. Smartwool quality. I will be ordering more.

You can't go wrong with argyle! These socks hold up very well using detergents formulated for wool. I hang mine to dry after a delicate cycle and they've been lasting me years of regular wear. The only reason I need to buy another pair is another color combination.

These are very warm for the thinness of the material. I have several pairs of running gloves of similar weight made of poly material, and these outperform all of them. They provide more manual dexterity than most winter gloves. I have worn them mainly in ~30 F weather for 1-2 hours, and I would say that for conditions more extreme than this, you will need a more substantial glove. A downside is that due to the flexibility of the fabric, the fingers will get twisted around and you will have to straighten out the touch tips periodically to get them to align properly.

While the material feel is incredibly comfortable and stays so for a full day of wear, I found that by mid-day the material was rolling up and bunching up at the top of my leg leading to repeated trips to the bathroom to correct this.

I am an avid road bike cyclist (appx 3k miles/yr). I own 12 Marino wool baselayer shirts & have been patiently waiting for the last 3-4 years for Smartwool to reinvent their Mens Long sleeve 150 weight zip-top baselayer (I can't begin to tell you how POed I was when Smartwool ended production of this zip-top). I am 5'11" with a broad shoulder build, a 33" waist, and weigh 152 # (nude). I also have a 32"-33" sleeve length (which is difficult to find). This shirt fits me 100%.

Just got this shirt and love it. things to note: its very thin, but seems to be made well and isn't too cool. Pretty much a good summertime t-shirt. It's a strange feeling, the wool polyester blend, you're warm but cool at the same time. I actually worn it this past weekend while biking the going to the sun road in Glacier national park and it worked perfect, functions very much like an active wear shirt with the moisture wicking and what-not, but is way more comfortable. like i said earlier, its a weird super thin VERY soft feel. I immediately bought the blue one with the lama on it. One down fall is it's very thin so I imagine its not the best in cold weather on it's own, but maybe would be a good base-layer with a warm mid-layer. I am one of those people stuck between L and XL, 6'2" 195 lbs. Went with XL and its a bit baggier than I'd like, but I'd rather have a bit baggier than a tight sh-medium size, and if it shrinks a little in the dryer, like most things do, it will be an absolutely perfect fit.

The recommended size fits me perfectly. I find these to be a dramatic improvement over the Smartwool Secret Sleuth no show socks. These are smooth across the top of my foot, and the Secret Sleuth have a small ridge around the edge that hurts by the end of the day. These socks do come off my heel as I remove my shoes, but so far they are staying put very nicely as I walk.

Great summer no show socks. I was very excited to find smartwool hide and seek socks, but they still showed in some of my shoes. These are shorter in the toe so work better for summer shoes. They do slip a bit more on the heel than the hide and seek style, but their functionality is fantastic - they keep my feet from getting sweaty (without these socks, wow, sweatfest) and they are so soft and comfortable.
