These are comfortable right out of the box, and I'm keeping them. They slip a bit on my heel (which is not unusual for me in general), so I may have to play with the sole inserts some, but it's minor enough that I'm confident I can get that resolved. My only complaint is how heavy they are. I was looking to replace my older pair of Salewa approach shoes. My older shoes are a much lighter weight, slimmer profile shoe and I really loved that- they've taken me through hikes in the Rockies and across the sands in Namibia. They were easy to pack, and I really wanted something just like them. I've tried numerous other brands....and I just keep coming back to Salewa because of how good they fit and how comfortable they are. So, I'm keeping these and we'll see how they do in the long run. But if someone from Salewa is reading this.....please come back with a slimmer, lighter weight version!

Narrow and low volume fore foot. Very low ankle. Extremely comfortable and lightweight. I am an overpronator with pretty flat feet and these were so comfortable I just bought the exact same shoe again. Great styling and the quick lace makes it a great bike riding shoe

While I loved the look, I hated the fit and the lacing system. These run small and narrow to size.

Way too small in length and width. Possibly a full size too small, at least a half size too small. Outsole is terribly narrow in the middle. Had good luck with Salewa in the past but this shoe had to go back. Even if I figured out the right size I would be worried about rolling my ankle like another reviewer wrote.

The new Mountain Trainer is built like a tank. I really like the added sheath on top which adds more waterproof effectiveness. The laces have also been redesigned for regular flat laces although the laces they include are very lightweight but switching them out or replacing should be much easier than old model. The shoe is basically a low cut boot and this version emphasizes that. I expect it to take longer to break in but all said and done should be amazing and last a long time. Went up a half size because last version shrunk a bit.

My only complaint is kind of a big complaint. This shoe is very narrow. My left foot is a full size smaller than my right, so it's tricky finding a good size that works for both feet. In this case the left fit really well but the right shoe was incredibly tight. After using a shoe stretcher for 2 months, the right shoe is finally ok. To be clear, the length of the shoe was correct for a 10.5 but the width was crazy narrow. Now that I have both shoes fitting properly, I really like them. The tread is really good in wet, muddy situations and they are light weight. Look good too. I guess I would try going up a 1/2 size next time.

These shoes are light and seem to be well made and are definitely for people with narrow feet. However, they have ZERO arch support for people with high arches. Two days after I started wearing them, my planters fasciitis started and it was HORRIBLE. To make matters worse, I am on a trip out of state so it was very bad timing and ultimately a bad decision to wear unknown shoes on a vacation. I ended having to go to a shoe store and paying to have custom Orthotics made for these shoes. These are NOT good for high arches. Try at your own risk. To add, the traction of these shoes on wet surfaces is downright scary. I’m used to Vibram on my Merrell hiking shoes. These are not even close.

The fit was slightly tight. I would probably get a half size bigger. However I've only worn them a dozen times and on my last hike I stumbled and a branch ripped a hole in the top of the shoe. I'm very disappointed in the quality of the fabric.

These seem super narrow to me. I ordered my normal size and they were fine size wise, but the width was too narrow. I don't think a larger size would have helped so I sent these back.

This shoe is lightweight and well-built. I love the look of the shoe and the beefy grip on the sole. It took me a full day of wearing these around the house to stretch out the width. They felt very narrow out of the box and I thought for sure I was going to have to return them for a 1/2 size bigger. It seems like they will be OK after more breaking in.

I have been wearing these everyday since I got them and must say these are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. I have flat feet and the arch support is excellent. I have not had any pain in my knees and my back and just basically forgot that I was even wearing shoes. I bought these for work and walk about 4 to 6 miles a day in these on everything from carpet to concrete, tile, and out on the grounds when I help with the landscaping. I wanted something more then a running shoe which I wore for work to something not as bulky as a work boot which is a little overkill for my line of work. These fit the bill perfectly! BTW I do custodial and maintenance for a local high school.

Very narrow, short. Ordered women's 11, like my old Salewas. The fit has changed dramatically. I was very hopeful about this shoe, as my other Salewas are as comfy as slippers. Alas, they're going back.

Love the Salewa GTX! This is my second pair. Really great to find a hiking shoe that fits my narrow foot. I wore out my first pair. And no blisters!! Too bad they no longer supply the two different insoles I got with my first pair. I highly recommend the Salewa GTX for people trying to fit their narrow foot.

Do the people who designed this shoe actually try wearing it? First, there is a spot on the outer edges of the shoe that pushes in hard on one's bone - I'd say it's my foot but no other shoe effected that way. Second - the lacing; the laces are very thin and there is a secondary fabric tongue piece that makes adjusting the fit and/or changing out the laces to something more substantial practically impossible. Color is um "bright" but I wouldn't care about that if the shoe fit well otherwise.

Enjoyed the look and feel of these shoes. Was a bit concerned on durability though. Laces are very thin, looked like they were fraying after lacing a few time, and re-lacing with the gator seemed like a hassle. For almost $200, these shoes didn't meet all of my needs (e.g. I want OEM quick-laces, a thicker / stiffer sole), so I returned these. But if you're looking for a true trail running shoe, these had great upper support and were very comfortable.

WAY too small for size 10.5. Seems like very good quality overall, except for the “tongue” cover material... Seems very thin and flimsy. Though I suspect this is designed for airflow and comfort, it just doesn’t seem like it would hold up very long, however this may just be my perception. Also seemed WAY too narrow for an adult male... Felt like a youth size. I would consider trying a larger size and width, but I just don’t like the “tongue” design. Very smart looking shoe, and the speed laces seem very convenient. Will keep an eye on this brand in the future.
