Salewa has become my go to shoe/boot company! I have two pair of Wildfire, this being my second pair. I normally wear a size 11, maybe 11.5 in some, but with Salewa I wear a 12. The fit is awesome! No break in period, just take them out of the box and go. I really like the sticky sole on the Wildfire because I walk/hike all sorts of different terrain and these work in everything from slick rock to mud to grass to the sidewalks. Nice padding and the lace to toe is much appreciated. In my opinion, these are tough shoes to beat!

These are the 4th pair of Salewas I've purchased and my least favorite. I wore them on dozens of short treks (<3 miles) before taking them on longer outings. The last two hikes in these boots (6 -7.5 miles) resulted in nasty blisters on both heels. Salewa has a blister-free guarantee, so I expected them to perform better than this. Also, the soles seems less padded/comfortable than the Wildfire and the Firetails I currently own, and so my forefoot was also shockingly sore after the longer hikes. The shoes fit very well, which also makes me surprised that I'm getting blisters (there's no heel slip whatsoever).

First, let me start by saying the fit is awesome! Second, if you are looking to buy Salewa, use the size guide. I am an 11-11.5 size, but in Salewa I am a size 12. The lace to toe I really like because I can keep the toe box loose for walking/hiking or cinch it up for some rock scrambling. Construction and materials are very good! Very impressed with these and they are now my go to shoe and brand.

This is a great looking hiking shoe, the dark blue suede is lovely. It's definitely a heavy duty hiking shoe as it has quite a stiff sole - great for feet that need extra protection from too much flexing and for added protection on rocky trails. I have a medium width foot and usually wear a size 10.5 or 11 in hiking shoes so ordered the 11 in the Mountain Trainer. Unfortunately this style runs a little big and no 10.5 was available so I had to send it back.

DAMN GOOD SHOE!! I’m on my feet all the time. From the office to the rock face. I’m super happy with this shoe. Plan to buy a few more to stock up as I have a hard time finding that right fit. Military type work and have a ton of different shoes/boots. These are my go to from this point forward. Wouldn’t mind seeing this in a mid and maybe a color that will work better with tactical type clothing where the potential to not want a bright green lace happens. Look forward to see how they breath in humid South Korea this summer. At any rate love the shoe, love the brand and I’ll be back.

These fit my son's foot very well - his arch is pretty high, and these have lots of support. He also has a fairly narrow foot, so the two variations of insoles that came with the shoes is a great element of this shoe. They are a little "technical" looking, but still a good shoe just for him to wear for scouts activities, hiking, and such. So hard to find good arch support, so we are happy with this purchase.

This is my sixth pair of Salewa shoes. There is not a better shoe in the world market for light hiking or in my case for everyday wear because I am extremely flat footed and the soles of these shoes are extremely rigid. To make them walkable they have a rocker sole. Front of sole is much thinner than the midsole. Build to last and feel like a slipper after a full day walking. I normally wear a 10.5 but always buy 11 in Salewa. You are not just buying a Nike tenny here. These are seriously comfortable walking shoes.

Took these boots on a 24 mile loop through the Gila Wilderness this past weekend. This is my second pair of Salewa‘ sand they did not disappoint. No hot spots means no blisters. The water proofing is awesome. They also look awesome. They are very stiff and are best suited for backpacking with 40+ pounds rather than day hiking.

I love that the lacing goes deep into the toe box, so width of the boot can be customized. The sole was pretty rigid, but enough flex to be comfy. The deal-breaker was the ankle cuff... really rubbed my bony ankle the wrong way. returned.

I have owned Salewa boots, but never the shoes. The boots hold up to everything I’ve thrown at them and they look the same as the day I pulled them out of the box. If these shoes stand up to that, I will continue to purchase this brand. I’m pretty tuff on shoes. I do a lot of walking/hiking/disc golf, rock climbing, and all other brand just seem to bust at the union between the sole and the upper. These shoes feel really solid! They fit “snug” on all parts of your feet, including the toes! Can’t wait to see how they preform.

The boot architecture makes it stiff and firm unlike competitors. I was looking for a non-stiff boot that had plenty of cushion. This boot is not what I was looking for. Recommend boot for hiking where you need stiff ankle support and not a lot of foot flex.

This shoe is very stiff. The toe pocket is a bit narrow and because of the overall stiffness of the shoe, it is not forgiving if you have one foot about 1/4 size longer than that other. I have to wear thin socks to pull these shoes off. The lacing design is the main reason I ordered these shoes. The metal wire that goes around the heal made me feel like I would have more control over heal slip. Unfortunately, to get tension on that wire you have to tie the laces super tight and that is just too uncomfortable for long periods of time. The look and build of this shoe is top notch, but with the top front of the shoe being so stiff the chances of getting both the left and right to break in with one foot being slightly larger than the other is not going to be easy. I kinda wish the heal wire tension was configurable via something other than the laces on the top of the shoe (like a snowboard helmed or boots sometimes are).

If you have narrow feet, these may be perfect for you. The shoes hugged my feet nicely and didn't feel like they would need much wear to break them in. I tend to have trouble finding hiking shoes due to my slightly narrow feet, so I was very pleased to find that these didn't slip on my feet at all. (Narrow or AA shoes are often far too narrow for me, but Average or B shoes can be too wide and gap around my arches.) I'm not sure about keeping them, though, because the toe bed is also a bit narrow and I'm aware of the left shoe rubbing slightly against the outside of my pinky toe and my toes feel a little bit crunched together.

If you don't know anything about Salewa, now is the time to learn. I am an avid rock climber and hiker. I live in Utah and spend a lot of time in the mountains. A couple years ago I bought my first pair of Salewa Approach Shoes and Hiking boots. They were the best shoes I've ever owned in both categories. I actually have the ability to get many brands for half price due to an organization that I'm a part of and I will pay for price for Salewa because they are that good. Trust me, buy them, you won't regret it.

Not for me. I was really hoping these would work for me — they are quite nice looking and comfortable — but alas, the speed laces made my shallow feet pop up slightly in the back. Also, there is something about the fabric in the front that doesn’t hold one’s foot in very securely — too much moving around, especially if you hike for 10 miles. I ultimately went with a mid-rise Merrill hiker that laced more securely on my foot. If you have a deeper or wider foot, however, go for it! They seem nice and good for summer.

I have a medium-wide foot with a low arch. I wear a 12 in dress shoes and usually a 12.5 in athletic shoes. Of all the approach shoes I tried on, these had the best feel on my feet. "Butter" was the word that came to mind. Yeah baby. I had to size up to a 13 so my outer toes didn't rub the toe box. These have POMOCA outsoles with super sticky compound. It sounded like suction cups walking around on tile, so I bet they can climb. My size thirteens were right around 17 oz each; not heavy, not light. There's a lot to like about these shoes: comfort, sticky soles, breathable mesh upper, well thought out design. I cant speak to the long term durability, but I am now a Salewa fan and will be keeping them in mind for future purchases. There was one issue that killed the deal for me, that may not be an issue for you. The outsole is a little narrow and has somewhat of a side to side rocker. Since my foot is medium to wide, I found that I could roll the shoe (and my ankle) really easily compared to others in this shoe class. My goal was to get a hiking oriented approach shoe, ultimately purchasing the heavier, more stable Scarpa Zen. Try them for yourself, you may love em; I did, except for the above concern.

I give these 5 stars not because they are perfect for everyone, but because they do what they are intended to do very well. I tried on a ton of approach and hiking shoes. These were the most robust for the category, also the heaviest at 24oz per shoe for my size 13s. Thats a whopping 7-8 oz heavier than the average. These really are a boot that is cut low. The construction quality is superb. These are made in Romania, like the Scarpa Zen, and a pair of Asolo approach shoes I had in the past. They all tend to be heavier and of higher quality than Asian made shoes. The sole is stiff the stiffest of all the shoes I tried) with a built in rocker. There are pros and cons to a stiff sole, but if that's what you are after, these have you covered. Comfort is up there too, with a foot hugging feel. No heel slip. I can see these becoming a foot's best friend as they break in. Not appropriate for trail running or light day hiking, but could foot the bill for carrying loads or moving over some wild terrain. Check out the Scarpa Zen if you want a similar build quality in a slightly lighter and more flexible shoe. If you want something truly light, there are plenty of other options out there.
