Newton Running

Newton Running Logo
The inspiration behind Newton® running shoes, as well the brand’s name, was Sir Isaac Newton and his third law of motion, which states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

A leader in natural running, Newton believes that maintaining natural running form without being barefoot requires a shoe that allows the foot to connect with the ground as though it is shoeless. Any geometric change interferes with the natural gait, which is why every shoe is built on a level platform that mimics the foot’s natural geometry. Unhindered, flexible movement is essential, as long as the shoe is still protective enough to prevent injury over harsh terrain.

Newton encourages landing on the mid-foot to forefoot. When you walk, you heel strike. Sprinting propels you forward, causing you to land on your toes. The brand believes that optimal running gait falls somewhere in between. To help maintain this, Newton has taken great care to research and design their shoes. You will find technologies like Active Membrane Technology™, Action/Reaction Technology™ and the Biomechanical Sensor Plate throughout the line.

So who are Newton running shoes for? They are for runners who are already mid-foot or forefoot strikers, as well as those who are working on transitioning from heel striking to a more natural running form.

Slip into a Newton running shoe and experience the science of motion.

I love this shoe. I bought it in the teal and if you love a bright color, you will love it too. The cushioning was squishy, and it felt like the moderate support I needed was there. There was good cushioning in the forefoot too, which I often find is lacking in running shoes. My foot is average width, leaning toward a little narrow and these fit perfect on the width. Here’s the BUT. It runs really small. I wear a 9.5, at the most, in running shoes (usually Brooks and Nike), and this was WAY too small. As in so small, I’m not sure I won’t have to re-order a full size bigger. I’ve never worn a 10 (or 10.5) in my life, but I’m going to try it.

low star rating only to draw attention for people about to purchase: note that this shoe runs HUGE! I've been wearing Newtons for years (in the same size) and for some reason this particular shoe is about a size and a half too big

LOVE LOVE LOVE these shoes. Was a bit leary of the nubs underneath the ball of my foot . . . but I've learned to love them. I'm a bit of a toe-walker so it's not an issue. Not a huge amount of cushion, but somehow remains an incredibly comfortable shoe. I've worn them all day at work and my feet aren't tired and worn out when I get home. Love the bumblebee color scheme too!

Perfect fit (without the orthotic) Order 1/2 size larger if you wear an Rx orthotic. Very cute.

I love Newton’s. These are similar to other Fate models I’ve owned before. They seem lighter, but maybe that’s because they have fewer miles on them. Also the shoes look much better in real life. I thought the colors looked awful in the photos, but I actually like the look of the actual shoe.

I love this well-made, high quality shoe. It is wide and roomy for my wide feet. It is lightweight and a joy straight out of the box (I.e., no breaking in required).

I love these shoes. Perfect support with a little bounce. I highly recommend these shoes. This is my first pair of Newton, I normally wear Brooks...I love these so much, I want to get several pair! Great for walking and running! Love! I wish there were more color options...

This is my second pair of Gravity 7s. I have a Morton’s Neuroma on bottom of one foot which, when inflamed, causes a tremendous amount of pain. Since I purchased my first pair I haven’t had a flare up. My first pair was orange and this time I purchased the black and think they look great. I sized up 1/2 size for each pair and they fit perfectly. This shoe is a little expensive but well worth it to walk in comfort!

Love these shoes!!! This model Distance is even better than the previous version. Shoe feels a little more flexible, less stiff which works well for me. The upper is light & breathable not binding at all.

First a caveat, this is my first real pair of running shoes. These are very comfortable. They run a little small IMHO. I wear a 10.5 and I bought an 11. There’s about a half inch on the big toe but, when I get running, my feet still feel a little cramped - not uncomfortable. When I walk in them, I feel my heels sliding up and down from the cushioning but, when I tug on the heels, my feet do not slide and I have never experienced rubbing from running. My one concern is durability. These shoes are made of very light weight materials. I’ve put an estimated 10 miles a week on these shoes for the month that I’ve had them. So far they still look in excellent condition. Overall, I am extremely pleased with these shoes and, provided I and satisfied with the wear I get from this pair, I will purchase another pair of Newtons. The ridge on the bottom of the shoe across the balls of my feet was different at first but I’ve come to really love it.

Newton Gravity always runs small; that being said, these seemed to be a bit truer to size than past versions. I almost sized up and I am glad I did not. Out of the box, I did a nice long run and couldn't decide if these are better than past Gravity styles or if I have simply forgotten what it feels like to run in new ones. Either way they were wonderful.

Love this brand. I have 3 pairs of Newtons, only problem they run a full size small. I wear a 9 1/2 in majority of shoes, but 10 1/2 in Newtons. Great support, color, wear.

These are great, just be aware the 10 fits like a 9. NEWTON seems to always run small but usually just a half size, this pair runs a full size smaller. But they are great, perfect for marathon training!

I did the online survey tool to figure out which Newton running shoe was the best fir for me. I LOVE these! I run outside on pavement and these are going to be amazing. They are light, but the bottoms feel so supportive for running on a hard surface. This is my first pair of Newtons. I am a huge, new fan! They are even so much cuter than my old running shoes that had a thicker sole for added support. The colors are cuter in person, and the white symbol on the side sparkles. I feel like I could wear these anywhere. I can't wait to run in them!

I am a size 10 with a high arch and fairly wide feet. My knees are problematic and my feet tend to get sore after walking or running on pavement. I used to wear ASICS for a super supportive footbed but they changed their design so I was looking for another option. The shoe bright, fun and very light. You can see your socks through the top so very breathable. It is snug in a supportive rather than constrictive way. My one complaint is the low heel. It didn’t bother me at first, just felt slightly odd but after a particularly vigorous run, I actually got blisters because of where it hits on the back of my heel. Even with socks. Sensitive skin havers beware! Ultimately though, the look and the support are worth it. My knee and foot pain has decreased significantly since I started wearing these exclusively for long, sidewalk runs.

I tried really hard to like these shoes. My husband LOVES Newtons - they are his go-to running and trail running shoe. However, they just don't work for me. First, they run really small and Newton makes this fact very clear on their website. I initially purchased a pair that was too small even after going up in size and the shoe was causing all sorts of cramping and numbness in my feet after running 4-5 miles. After getting some advice from Newton and a local running store, I went up a size. Still no luck. Cramping continues. The numbness is less but still there. I really wanted to like these shoes and for them to work but they just don't. :(

I absolutely love Newton running shoes, in particular the Kismet, but I do not run--I walk. I discovered them years ago, thanks to a shoe sales person that said I needed to try them. Have swayed many others over to them, as well. I love the support they offer, the roominess, light-weightedness, and have even gotten used to their wild colors. I tried a pair that did not have the contoured POP lugs and did not like them--perhaps they are better for running. I started with the original Kismet and am on my fourth pair. Love them!

These shoes don't have the support one would expect from a stability shoe. My ankles collapsed inward and there was almost no arch support at all. They are good looking shoes but they don't provide structured support. I didn't even try running.
