Marmot

Marmot Logo
THE MEANING OF LIFE
Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.

During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.

Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

These are probably the most comfortable pants I've ever put on. I'm not the hugest fan of tights, but these are thick enough that they don't show a lot of bumps and don't feel constricting. They are slightly fleecy feeling on the inside and are super soft, they aren't a thermal fleece but aren't as breathable as regular workout tights. They're somewhere in the middle. They make zero noise when I walk even though my legs rub. The pockets are amazing. The front zipper and the back are big enough to slip in my phone. I'm so excited to wear these hiking, mountain biking, and basically all the time. The only downside I'd say is that the large fit great (I'm a size 12) all over except they are a little big in the waist and there's no way to adjust. I ordered a medium to see if those work better so I don't have to keep pulling them up, finger's crossed.

I got the Large even though i am typically a medium and it's perfect fit and very lightweight - however, I am returning it because it is just too short. I don't want a rain jacket that ends at the hips, I like a longer coat reminding me of fisherman style. Also I want something a bit thicker to double as just a light winter coat.

I wanted to love this but it was a bit mundane- the fit was pretty boxy, which was emphasized by the slightly rigid fabric. I'm a size 4-6 on top, 4 on bottom, 34D 5'3" 120ish lb, bought a size M which fit with a sweater underneath it. Returned and kept the North Face Dryzzle instead.

I love these flannel shirts. They are feminine and just the right weight and ultra soft. Unlike many other flannels that are heavy, or make you look like a lumberjack, or over-heat you. I appreciate that they are not 100% cotton, because I don't like wrinkles. These come out of the wash beautifully. Mine did not shrink but i only dried on low. Sometimes I just hang them. I buy a few of these every few years. I have worn Marmot clothing for many years, and it took me a while to figure out the fit for myself. IF you have a generous bustline, or broad shoulders, you need to go up a size, because otherwise they can be tight across the back when you reach out or up for things. I have found no problems in the hips, they are cut nicely there and waist as well. I am not a fashionista, I wear Marmot because it's high quality. You are going to get flat sewn seams and all the things that make a garment high quality. Just be aware of the sizing. This is a regular fit item. (not athletic fit or close to body). For instance, I am usually a L but I get this in an XL. My mom is an XL and moves to the plus size. If you are smaller busted or have narrow shoulders, then you can stick with the size you usually are.

This is a gorgeous top. It has the comfort feel of wearing a fleece sweatshirt, but looks like you tried, and it's nice enough to wear out to a casual dinner after hiking or running errands all day. 2 large pockets in front and a nice length with dropped and rounded hems give a very nice profile with leggings. I would describe as medium weight.....you won't overheat in this but if you are outside and its 40 or below you will want to pair with a vest or jacket. Follow the washing instructions because this may shrink up about 1/4-1/2 size, so size up. If it fits perfectly out of the package then I would forgo using the dryer at all and just hang to dry. I have long arms and the sleeves out of the package were generous, so I didn't want to take a chance on them getting shorter. I've been wearing Marmot clothing for decades because of the quality, fit and finish. So I offer a few caveats: 1) if you have a generous bustline, size up. Marmot clothing tends toward smaller bustlines so when you go to reach for things you will feel a pull across the back of the tops. 2) the plus sizes are very generous in the hips, so if you are hippy the plus sizes will be great on you. (I only need the plus size due to bustline, so they can be a bit flared at the bottom for me since I have "no hips"......I am built straight and slim in that area.) This top is so much better than the stock photos show, it's got a "dressier" yet casual look. The brass snaps give it a very upscale look. It really beats wearing a sloppy looking sweatshirt. Also check out the Bridget flannel shirts, they are very supersoft for the winter and feel so nice next to skin.

It's not XL as marked. It's Medium. I'm 5'2, most of my clothes are size Large, some Medium. But this jacket, I wasn't able to zip it up. It's marked XL, but it doesn't fit petite, large breasted women . I don't think it's designed for women. When we gain weight, we grow breasts and stomach. We don't get taller and grow and wider shoulders! Must be redesigned!

The XL fits my size 16 , 5'5" bod fine. Lining is super soft, but thats the best part of the coat. The very long length, combined with the stitch pattern to control the down left me feeling like I was standing in a huge sleeping bag. Ultimately chose the Marmot Strollbridge for the preferred length, flattering stitch pattern, and stand-up collar.

I bought my usual size small that I wear in Patagonia and The North Face and I could barely pull the pants over my hips. Either they are mis-labeled a size small, or the brand isn't ensuring that the fit is true to size.
