THE MEANING OF LIFE
Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.

During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.

Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

I just bought this for my 18 years old daughter who is at the University of Washington. She needed something warm, waterproof and stylish and she loved it. She's 5'5", 115 lbs and she was able to layer with a sweatshirt.

I'm obsessed! I got the beige color last season & now I really want it in black. The pom is huge - but very stylish & I receive so many compliments! I love that it is cute & 100% functional - VERY WARM. Lined with fleece.

I am 5'11", 122 lb, 36B...tall and thin. I can never find a down coat that doesn't look like a Christmas tree on me (fits at the top and splays out as it goes down). This coat is the best I have found ever. I ordered both a S and M to compare. I received a Small in this coat (Montreaux) and a Medium in a different coat (Montreal). The only difference in the 2 coats was that the Montreal was about 2" shorter and a had wonderful zipper (10 out of 10). Zappos was great and I sent both back and started over, with the hopes that if I wanted the Small, it would have a better zipper. In fact, it did. The second pair of coats I give the zippers a 5 out of 10. Why Marmont can't put in a well functioning zipper is beyond me. That said, everything else about the coat is a 10, so I'll deal. I chose the Medium. Sleeves were an inch or more longer, as was the length. The Medium falls just below my wrist bone (I have long arms). The Small was just above my wrist bone. The Medium falls about 1-2" above my knee. Neither flared out like Christmas tree. In fact, the Medium was not too much wider than the Small, but gave much more room in the chest area. I can wear the Medium with a shirt and sweatshirt underneath. I could get away with a Small, but not in the bust with a sweater and have it be comfortable. I love this coat. Especially because I have 2 white, small, long haired dogs, one of which I have to carry for part of our daily walks. The hair does not stick to the coat! Yay. Also noticeable was that the hood covers more of my head/face in the medium...almost too much with the fur. Makes visibility a bit limited, but better than too small. The Small hood was perfect with the fur Regarding warmth, it will be fine all winter. Regarding warmth, I'll make around the block at 20 degrees with wind (live in PA). I've already walked in light rain and it dries quickly and was fine. I am super happy with this coat.

I just received this coat and wanted to share what I have found out about this coat. I'm 5'7" and weigh 160 lbs and wanted some extra room so I ordered a XL. The first thing I noticed is that the sleeves come to the middle of my hand and I have fairly long arms and have never had this problem before. The cut of the sleeves around the shoulders seems off, it makes your ability to move your arms forward a bit difficult. The length was perfect. Overall the coat looks great and other than those 2 things I mentioned I really like it. Not sure if I'll keep it though because of the way the sleeves are attached, it would be bothersome every time you tried to reach forward.

Love this coat already! Fit great, although I did follow others advice and size up to avoid tightness across the chest. The coat is light weight, but kept me perfectly warm as I watched a sporting event in low 30 degree weather. Hoping it keeps me as warm as the temps continue to drop!

Overall, a nice light-to-midweight flannel shirt. Nice colors (olives and cream) done in a cool plaid pattern work great for an outdoorsy look. Cut isn't tailored enough to give it the nicest shape, but it isn't completely boxy and shapeless, either. (I'm very slender--5'4", 96lbs--and the XS offers a not-too-oversized fit, with plenty of room to layer a tank or tee beneath, which is exactly what I wanted.) In all, I'm pleased!

I've lived in MN for 15 years and have been cold and uncomfortable for every single one of them. I have purchased several expensive brands over the years hoping for some relief. The warmest thus far had been a pricey Northface, but it still had flaws: wind went up the sleeves and up the bottom, the material and zipper at the neck were incredibly stiff and uncomfortable, and it was heavy and bulky. I'm so excited about this Marmot. It is lightweight, looks great, and feels soft and comfortable to the touch. I appreciate the soft fleece around the neck, around the wrists, and in the pockets, which not only feel great, but also helps to further keep out the cold. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I might be looking forward to winter for the first time since moving here. When considering size, I felt it ran a little small. I'm 5'7", 138 lbs, and typically wear a size 6. I first purchased a Small, but it was tight even without a sweater/sweatshirt. I was afraid to size up since I didn't want to look like I was drowning, but I exchanged for a Medium. It looks fantastic.

Overall I am really happy with this purchase – the material is incredibly lightweight, the shine of the jacket gives it a more polished look than most down jackets. I feel that this jacket is just as high-quality as my Marmot vest which I've had for 8+ years (I have a size Small in the vest). I ended up taking the XS in this jacket. Given the other mixed reviews I will go into detail on fit because I do think the fit on this jacket is a little difficult. I am 5'6" and 115 lbs, with an athletic build (flat chested, muscular shoulders, small waist and butt, muscular thighs). I both ordered the XS and S to see which fit better. Both the XS and S had enough room for me in the butt/thigh area unlike the other reviewers so far. Maybe for a true pear shape it would be too snug, but it worked fine for me. Even sitting down in the XS, fully zipped up, I am comfortable. The XS was tighter across the chest, and I have less mobility in my arms in the XS than the S. But the S was simply too baggy, too long in the arms and overall looked sloppy compared to the XS. I did not want a super baggy fit, as I need to wear this into my office and client's offices over business-casual wear. I will be wearing this as an outer layer but you could absolutely wear it as a middle layer as well (and I very well might throw my rain jacket over it on wet days that aren't cold enough for my parka). The zipper gets easier over time and the shoulder tightness even loosened up a tiny bit after a few wears. I walk ~15 minutes to work each way and feel that this balances the temperature well – I don't get hot and sweaty from a short walk, like I do in other jackets.

I am about 5'4", 112 lbs, bought a size small, and this jacket is PERFECT!!! It is slightly fitted & longer on me than on the model in the photo, falling to my lower hips. Sleeves are a bit long, but that doesn't pose a problem for me. It is very lightweight (label says 100 wt fleece), which is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wear it as an extra layer when motorcycling, or as a sweater when dining out (restaurants are always too cold!). I highly recommend it.

Lightweight, pit zips, 2 pockets and roll-away hood in collar are all really nice features. I got the golden color; it is perfect, not only does it not wash out my skin color, it matches my favorite team's colors (Go Steelers). I'm comfortable, my kids can spot me in a crowd, a little ray of sunshine and cheering on my team. What more could a girl ask for??... yes, I'm dry too.

I went to REI before ordering this jacket and tried on the North Face Venture and Patagonia Torrentshell, as well as did a lot of research online. The North Face Venture was a little bit heavy and while I liked the Patagonia Torrentshell, the Marmot Precip is $30 less. I am 5'8 140 lbs and am normally between a small or medium and ordered the Marmot Precip in a medium because some of the reviews said it ran small. The medium was perfect! Love this jacket and think it will be perfect for hiking/ camping. It's very lightweight and packs down very small.

Really nice looking pants but had a slight gap in the back. I am 5'3" and the size four fit other than the slight back gap and a little too long. Otherwise these were great and was between Marmot and Prana but Prana had a 30 inseam so I chose them. Super comfy though, these were a close second.

I love this rain jacket. I wanted certain features, and it has them all: waterproof, pit zips to be a little cooler, the hood zips into the collar so it looks slightly more dressy/formal, velcro at the cuffs so adjustable sleeve length, pockets and flattering shaping. I am about 5'4" and 135 lbs, and I got this in a medium so I could wear it over a sweater or jacket. It is a little crackly, but I think that is the price you pay for waterproof, and I need that in this combination hike-a-week-then-visit-Rome trip.

This is an excellent jacket and my wife, Lois, is very happy with it. But that is not my main reason for my writing this review. My main reason is to point out that the jacket does not run true to typical sizing criteria:it runs small, by which I mean, if you are thinking of buying this jacket, I suggest that you order one size up from what you ordinarily would order. Normally a jacket in size large would fit Lois, but the large was too snug and we had to exchange it for an extra large.
