I couldn't be happier with these shoes. I was looking primarily for a hiking shoe that could also be used for mild running. I was also looking for a very sturdy, waterproof shoe with excellent support that didn't require inserts. These deliver on all counts. I'd read in a lot of online reviews that they're on the heavier side, but they certainly don't feel it, and any additional minor weight is worth it for the outstanding support. Plus, they're extremely attractive! I just love these and get excited whenever I put them on :). For reference, I'm a solid size 8 and typically size up to a 9 in running/hiking shoes with an insert, but an 8.5 in these fits like a glove.

This approach shoe was a perfect fit and feel. The laces can be adjusted nearly all the way down for each individual comfort level. They took one 5 mile hike to break in perfectly. Used them to hike approximately 35 miles in Yellowstone over a few days. Extremely impressed with the comfort and support they provided. The sticky sole allows extra grip while scrambling and the toe box rubber allowed the toes to be wedged into nooks without damage.

Great shoe - just order a bit larger than your normal size, and, be aware that the shoes are narrow - so any wide-footed persons should not order these.

Disclosure - I am planning to return these and am writing the review based on wearing these around the house a couple of times. First up: I think these shoes are fairly ugly. They fit their own kind of design language, but it's not one that I really care for. That said, if I were buying these shoes specifically for trail running or rocky hiking and did not need any further versatility from them, I would most likely keep them. I am looking for shoes for an upcoming trip that will involve hiking to rock-climbing spots in the Red River Gorge, and for some day-to-day use after the trip as well. I bought 5 different pairs to try out and have settled on the Brooks Divide 2 for reasons I'll explain below. These shoes would actually be great for the trip, but I don't do much trail running so they wouldn't see much use outside of that. The fit is great, comfort is good though the drop from heel to toe is pretty noticeable, and the grip... the grip is unparalleled among any shoe I've ever tried on. I feel like I could hop from boulder to boulder with ease or turn on a dime in dusty loose rock with these things on. If I had to summarize the feel of these shoes in one term, it would be "sure-footedness". They don't look great, and there are more comfortable options that I tried as well, but if I was picking a shoe only for jogging along the side of a mountain, these would be the winners. I also tried out the following: Keen Targhee EXP WP - better protection, a little clunky, probably good for hiking Altra Lone Peak All-Wthr Low - excellent comfort in the stride, roomier toe box, good grip but not in the same category as these La Sportiva Brooks Divide 2 - The worst in any one category, but the best balance of what I was looking for. Far less grippy than these, less protection than the Keens, slightly less comfortable footbed and not as good of stride feeling as the Altras... But grippy enough and comfortable enough for what I need (the main shortcoming in the Altra for me was a feeling of weight shifting back to my heels when standing still, which isn't so much a problem for running shoes, but more an issue for everyday use). So there you have it: I would gladly strap these goofy-looking things to my feet if I were scrambling down into a valley or hopping my way along a mountain trail, but for everyday use they aren't the right ones for me. One final thought I didn't fit in above: I do like the protection of the toe cap, and its design means it stays flexible and useful rather than being a blunt toe-helmet.

The length was accurate same as my Hoka one’s. The width is definitely for the narrower foot and fits mine well. The Hoka ones I have to since up almos all the way. The look is fine, I’m not big into style and there was only one color choice in my size. I’ve only got 16 miles on them so far. Having some unusual bottom inside of heal pain after about 4 miles of walking. Not sure what that is since I’ve been doing 7 plus miles with no issues in the Hoka’s. I’m hoping the issue resolves itself in the heals soon.

Newest version's material is very, very lightweight. One consequence may be that pressure points around foot were pronounced. Pervious model was exceptionally comfortable. This new one we returned.

Usually wear a size 11, bought a size 12 based on recommendations. They fit perfectly! Definitely on the narrow side, I have a pretty standard width foot (as far as I know) and these were perfectly snug. If your feet run wide at all, this probably isn't the shoe for you.

Very comfy shoes, almost too roomy but good with light hiking socks. Soles are very sticky - which is great for trail (I have owned a previous pair with this sticky sole and they are terrific on the rocks). Just stiff enough to handle uneven terrain without being stiff. Wish they were a bit more 'cute' but I like the red color. Keeping these and hope to wear them out like the last pair.

I absolutely love the Helios shoe! I’ve had several pairs and they just keep getting better with every new model. That being said, they’re probably not for most people. They fit like a glove, but I have a more narrow, low volume foot. The shoe doesn’t provide much protection from rocks, roots, etc. However, the traction is the best I’ve found in all conditions. There’s never a “break-in period.” As long as they keep making them, they’ll always be my go-to trail shoes!

Ignore the true to size option, only took it because the option i am looking for is not available. I bought a 43 1/2 {10 1/2} which is my normal athletic shoe size. Seems a little short. Ordered a 44, felt the same. Ordered 44 1/2 & 45, both were too long. I really like these shoes, but am unable to get a really good fit on length. Zappo's has been super great on the return process through all this.

just finished 56 miles on these boots in 1 week and over 12,000 feet elevation gains. no blisters! they had great ankle support. I found they were super lite for so much support. I sometimes knock my toes on rocks and this held up well. did well with Boulder scrambles with good grip. I have bad dropped metatarsals so the balls of my feet hurt but that is with every long hike and nothing a good insole could not fix. for the price, I think it is a great boot!

I’ve hiked every type of terrain imaginable in Colorado and Utah over the past 25 years and I’ve never worn a better shoe. I’m now hiking terrain that I would have previously hiked in a full boot, but the Ultra Raptor provides the perfect combination of responsiveness and stability, so it’s a case of “less is more.” The shoe is perfect — I hope La Sportiva doesn’t change it!

For the past 5 years I've been wearing Salomon X Mission 3 which has been discontinued (I had 5 pairs, two of which really needed to be trashed). I was desperate to find a replacement shoe and the Karacal is it! I'm so excited! More support than the Salomon and good colors. If I liked the Salomons, I like this shoe more.

I liked this shoe, it was super comfortable and very cute. I have slightly narrow feet and they were just fine. However I think they were definitely too small. I usually take a 9 in all shoes. I wear 9 in Asics and in Hokas. Asics are my go-to shoe, but I wanted a shoe for hiking on trails and this seemed perfect. But I would need a 9.5 in these for sure. They aren't as cushioned as Hokas. But I need to insert my arch support insole due to plantar fasciitis, and that insole fit fine in these shoes. They were just too short. My toe was near the end and the rubber toe guard on the top of the shoe was touching my toe in an ouch kind of way. I am considering ordering them in a 9.5.

Light weight shoe and super cute, however I could feel every rock, root etc. while running. If you want a light weight runner for the road or walking shoe, this shoe would work nicely, but for trails I definitely will be getting something else.
