Julbo Eyewear

Julbo Eyewear Logo
The 120-year-old Julbo brand is built on a rich history in alpine-mountaineering, high-altitude, and glacier exploration optics. Including those using prescription eyewear, they have been at the forefront of optical and action sports equipment for the mainstream athlete. From its headquarters high in the Jura Mountains of France, where the company was founded in 1888, three generations have directed Julbo’s evolution from a manufacturer of corrective lenses to a global producer of protective eyewear for all active outdoor pursuits.

Jules Baud, the founder of Julbo began when Crystal hunters, those earning a living by looking for crystals, asked Baud to develop sunglasses to help them better explore the Chamonix Valley. This mountaineering profession has existed since prehistoric times, but it was innovators like Baud who helped set the path for modern mountaineering tech with features like side shields, a horseshoe shape, and lenses made from tinted materials like smoky quartz.

Today, Julbo is an emerging multi-sport eyewear company that makes eyewear for elite outdoor athletes as well as mainstream users. Julbo is fully committed to creating a line of sunglasses with world-renowned optical quality melded with a bold sense of style.

Julbo has also developed a line of affordable, durable, 100-percent UV protective sunglasses for children. Julbo applies the same technology and innovation to its children’s line that it uses to make eyewear for mountain climbers, sailors, and other athletes.

Julbo USA is based in Williston, Vermont.

These are lightweight and comfortable, albeit very small in size. The style is okay, but not great. I am very sensitive to the sun, so I am picky and want a lot of sun coverage, however I was literally squinting with these on?! Very disappointed as these claim to be polarized. I thought Julbo was a good name? I guess not. Going back.

Overall, a great set of sunglasses. I use them for bike commuting, but could see them being a pretty great mountain bike sunglass, too. I've been biking with photochromic lenses for years because many of my rides end up after dark and it's nice to carry just one pair of sunglasses. They have a great construction, with a really solid feel without being heavy. They're large enough for an unrestricted field of vision, but not so huge that they look goofy. And they really do look good. The lenses themselves aren't perfect. They don't get quite as dark as others I've used, the darkest tint is basically your standard MTB "trail" tint that gives great contrast but leaves you squinting a bit in direct sunlight. The red reflective coating also gives some faint visual artifacts like ghosting, something that other manufacturers (eg. Oakley) have solved. But I've yet to find something better in a photochromic cycling sunglass, so those faults can be forgiven for all the other positives these have.

The Julbo Monterosa is a great sunglass for mountain travels or around town. I bought these for a backpacking trip. Key features include; excellent eye coverage for high altitude/snow travel, gender specific fit - smaller frame to fit women, REACTIV photochromic lens which changes shade depending on what the outside light is, clarity of vision, awesome fit, removable side shields to wear around town, and all around good looking sunglass. I would recommend these glasses to anybody wishing to purchase a sunglass for mountain travel or around town.

I bought these glasses to replace the Julbo Dolgans I have worn for 15 plus years. Since they are no longer made by Julbo.... I bought these. A tad larger frame but still excellent lenses and sun glare blockage with the side shields. Wish they were the Dolgans still but these are the closest you can get.

The Tamang glacier glass is a great value - it comes with protective side shields which offers complete sun protection, superior comfort and Julbo's Spectron 4 lens which is dark enough to protect your eyes on the mountain. I like the attractive shape of the frames and they stay in place during hard pursuits. I highly recommend these for any mountain activity.

The Julbo Aerospace Goggle has won the National Geographic Gear of the Year Award! Steve Casimiro had the following to say: "It s terrifically efficient any fog dissipates in seconds and easily activated while wearing gloves." What makes the Aerospace goggle so special? The simple, proprietary hinging system edges the lens away from the goggle to clear any fog within seconds. By edging the lens away from the frame, you open ventilation on all four sides of the goggle allowing airflow to enter and prevent any moisture build up. It's simple, easy to use and the only antifogging, lightweight goggle on the market that doesn't require batteries or fans. The Aerospace goggle has a SuperFlow system for optimal ventilation which allows the user to adjust the lens by pulling it forward to help reduce heat buildup and fog. Awesome when backcountry climbing and/or on the chair to reduce fog! It has a minimalist frame which gives the user a super wide field of vision. Awesome goggles!

The looping sunglass is awesome for infants! They are indestructible and the sunglass can be put on either way...so the infant can do it themselves! The glasses fit perfectly due to the design of the frames. The lens are 100% UV protective. I also like that the lenses are dark which is great for infant eye protection.

I ordered these for granddaughter and my daughter reports that they fit well (7 month old) and she is willing to wear them for short periods and working on longer periods. I wanted best sunglasses for California baby, definitely needed a really good pair for her first camping trip. They are sturdy and stay on, pretty indestructible so far. You have best customer service ever, with the free shipping both ways. Could have ordered from other sources but wanted my daughter to be able to return them if did not work, very pleased and will fit her for quite awhile.

These are very specialized sunglasses used primarily while mountaineering. I had a previous pair of glacier glasses that were not nearly as dark as I needed, and replaced them with this pair. Wow! Very dark, adjustable around the ears, and much more lightweight than a pair of goggles. You can take the side flaps off, and they kind of work for every day glasses, but the cover over the nose bridge isn't removable. Not for everyone, but if you need some solid glacier glasses, you can't go wrong with these. My only complaint is that they are not polarized. But that isn't expected with a pair of glasses like these.
