Frye

Frye Logo
The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye® boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Well crafted and great looking shoe. Normally wear a 10 1/2 and most reviews said go up 1/2 size. I actually had to back down 1/2 size to a 10 to get a good fit. Great customer service from Zappos during the exchange process.

I wanted to love these shoes, but I continually walked right out of them. Too wide in the heel, while the front fit fine. It seemed an odd way to design an otherwise very handsome shoe. Could not justify keeping them.

I liked these simple ballet flats, but the sole was just way too slippery! I consistently wear a 7.5 in shoes, but I felt the 7 was the right size and the 7.5 would be too big. I have very high arches and a slightly wide toe box, so these made my feet look a little chunky and silly. I miiiiiight try them again in another color though (I tried black).

I really liked the look of these shoes and wanted them to work so bad I tried them in a 7.5 (too big!) and a 7 (too small!). I am pretty consistently a 7.5 in other brands, but found that was too big with these Sienna Ballets. I have a just-slightly-wider-than normal toe box, but I didn't feel that these were too tight. The midnight metallic color was very pretty and a snazzy neutral that I could see wearing with a lot of different outfits. I wish they worked!

To small. I only carry sunglasses, small wallet, keys and a few smaller things like chapstick, aspirin, not really a lot but this bag is awkward. The inside zippered pocket is to small to hold much and very difficult to get into. I like the color and the leather but sadly the bag has to go back.

These are basically fancy Chuck Taylors, with no arch support and stiff canvas that hurts. They look pretty good, so they could be okay if you only plan on wearing them sitting down.

These shoes was the most painful shoes that I’ve worn in a long time. They were pinching the toes on my left foot so bad the first time I tried to wear them. Not for my feet. No arch support whatsoever, pointy toes hurt. The shoes was otherwise beautiful and the leather was flexible, but felt thin and stiff.

Depending on shoe style, I am sometimes able to wear a size 9 and sometimes need a 9 1/2, so I tried both sizes in the Frye Veronica. I also have a wide foot, even post bunion surgery, which always complicates things. The size 9 1/2 was too big, especially if it stretched at all, though I appreciated the extra width. In the end I kept the size 9 and opted to stretch them to make them slightly wider. The leather on these boots is soft and supple, (unlike a lot of the other Frye boots) and this seems to be working for me. So far I have only warn them around the house to break them in, so I haven't put many miles on them. I love the style, and the arch support is good for me. I usually need pretty good arch support.

I am SO in love with these booties !! I wear lots of ankle boots and usually order a size up and put orthotics in them so I can walk and walk and walk (I live in NYC). After reading other reviews about how comfortable these are, I decided to get my true size (I wear a 6 or 6.5 and got 6.5 because of the narrow toe) and I am glad that I did. They are so very comfortable and GORGEOUS. I got them in the silver/grey color and YowZa - stunning. I may have to get them in another color as well.

I loved the styling and gold leather, but these ran narrow on my feet. I usually wear a medium with a roomy toe box. The toe box on these shoes is narrow and pointy.....attractive but too pinchy for my toes.

My husband thought the shoes were extremely stylish, and really wanted them to work, because the color kinda could have worked with brown and black outfits, but the size was too small and we needed them that night, so we went with the other option we ordered. Sorry, shoes.

Ordered half size down and they fit. Overall very comfortable for work flats. No blisters even on the first wear. Could use a little more cushion for walking on concrete floors but an added insole should fix. Very soft leather

These boots fit me but are do seem small for the size. I wear a ten and they barely fit. The next size up was much too big so I am toughing it out but for for the price I wish I had a better fit. Also, they have a narrow toe box.

They seem to run a little small. I'd go with a half size larger. Super padded so they are extremely comfortable to stand in. I also love the style. Some of the better looking slides I've owned IMO. I bought these in 2 colors. I wore one on a trip just after purchasing them and the top of my feet were killing me after walking through the airport. The top edge was show was pressing into the tops of my feet. I changed sandals as soon as I got to the hotel. Hopefully they will wear in a bit and that will no longer be an issue. I am returning the other pair I bought but will reorder them in a half size larger if the pair I'm keeping starts to wear in a bit.

Cannot imagine why the first reviewer here referred to the leather of these shoes as stiff and scratchy. The leather is absolutely gorgeous and SOFT as butter with no break-in period required, though you would not think so from looking at the picture. I ordered the camel color, and it is gorgeous and flattering on the leg. I wish this camel color were an option in their other styles, as I think its a beautiful summer neutral color -- even better than the nude pink shades. This shoe ran perfectly true-to-size for me. If I could change anything, I would ask for a thicker sole like the Frye Lena slip-on has, or a slightly elevated heel.

The leather and the chain design are fantastic. I love the harness style, and the chain is a welcome addition. The construction of the boot is good, however I can see an insert being added very soon. I am a true size 9, and these run a tad long- however they are very fitted in the toe box, so if I had gotten a half size larger they would have been too large. The insert will need to be added for comfort as well, as these are not lined well (very thin leather insole) and I can feel the wood under the heel pretty prevalent. All over, gorgeous boot and I can’t wait to wear them riding with my guy!
