Freewaters

Freewaters Logo
At Freewaters® we believe we have a responsibility to do more than create great footwear. As global citizens who love to travel, surf and chase waterfalls, co-founders Eli and Martin have a deep respect for the healing power of water and want to share this with others. From the day we started in 2011, every pair has helped provide clean drinking water to communities in need. Access to clean drinking water should be a fundamental right, not a privilege. Yet globally 1 in 6 people don’t have access to clean and safe water.

Our approach is simple: 1% of net sales goes directly to fund our clean drinking water projects in Haiti, Kenya and the Philippines. Contributions are calculated and donated quarterly based on total global sales of our footwear - including through Zappos! To date we have completed 85 projects globally, improving water access and quality for over 12,000 people.

We partner with grassroots organizations that that are focused on sustainability, respecting and integrating the local communities, who have minimal overhead costs so that the funding goes directly into projects on the ground. We prioritize getting the local community directly involved in the planning, labor, maintenance and education surrounding the project. Clean drinking water is foundational to the health and prosperity of any community. Water borne disease and walking long distances to access water keeps children from going to school and prevents adults from working. So your support has ripple effects that go beyond just water – it has the potential to help lift these communities out of cycles of illness and poverty.

Thank you for your support.

The base of this sandal is very comfortable, but I wouldn’t recommend this style for anyone between sizes. I usually wear 8.5, so ordered both the 8 and 9 - neither fit. The difference between sizing was huge.

Basically this sandal is for slender footed women. I let 3 of my friends try on my size 11s. Didn’t come close to fitting any of them and they all worse 9 and 10s. The straps are about 5” too short on all counts.

Love the room in the toe box! The heel was too big for me, though. The style is a bit old or stodgy looking to me.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt I had to with these. These flip flops are bar none the worst flip flops I have even put on my feet. I have owned a variety of different flip flops over the years having worked at the beach. Birkenstocks, Rainbow, Reef and even the 1.00 Walmart rubber sandals. The major design flaw with these sandals is the fact that the nylon strap used is much too thin and flexible for the heavy rubber sandals, so when you are walk in them the sandals move sideways. I had to grip the sandal with my toes to keep it on my foot. I suppose if you had a very wide foot they may stay on. Secondly, the "in between toe strap" was really rough, I only wore the sandals for two minutes and already had red chaffing between my toes, if i had worn them more I would have had major blisters on each foot, rendering them useless. Honestly at 30.00, you are better to go up to 40.00 for a pair of Rainbow's (can't purchase on Zappos), and know you are getting a very high quality flip flop that will likely last for years. I really wanted to like these, the rubber is nice and the bottom portion of the sandal is well constructed and would be comfortable, but the strap makes the whole flip flop useless.

If you are between sizes order up. These will work better for those with a narrow foot. The straps may be too tight on someone with a normal to wide foot. Good quality materials and non slip soles.

I love the Freewaters mission and brand and was super excited to try these sandals because of the removable back strap and water-friendly materials. But the sizing was off. I am normally an 8 or 8.5. Based on other reviews, I ordered an 8 since there are no half sizes. The back strap on the left sandal was fine, but on the right sandal it was about .5" too short, so every time I walked the velcro would detach a bit causing an awkward noise plus eventually the sandal comes off... not gonna work! The sound was the same on the left sandal that had the ample length back strap. So I'm a bit disappointed. I think the 9 may be too long in the toes, but I may try it. Still debating.

Loved these flip flops. However, my 2 year old could not stand the piece between the toes. It is thicker and wider than other flip flops. Otherwise, we loved them.

My favorite sandal of all time. If there is one recent issue, it would be that I recently received a pair with the foot strap looser on the left sandal so I had to return. However that’s understandable, given how many I have purchased, and I would still buy them again for their overall comfort and light weight.

I ordered a 9 and a 10, as I range between a 9 and 9 1/2 generally. The 9 fit, but there was little to no extra space on length. I went with the 10 which gave a bit of extra space in length, but not so much that it looked too long and the arch still hit correctly. They are comfortable and the leather is supple.

I ordered a sz 9, then a 10. The 9 fit, but no room (length) to spare. I decided to go with the 10, as it gave a little more length, but not too much.

These look exactly the same in person. Comfortable as well. I needed something simple and easy to slip on. Im usually a 7.5 or 8. Mostly 8s in sandals. Ordered 8 but they were very large so I returned and got a size 7. They fit with a bit of room but I don't mind.

The "footbed" is very comfortable and feels good on the feet. Fit is nice, and no issues with the strap. Sole of shoe has good tread. Overall, I prefer these to prior pairs I've had from Sanuk and Reef.

My feet are a true size 8 and I found the front length to be great but the back came up short as well as the wide part of the sandal not being where the wide part of my foot is. I think they could be amazing for some people and I wish I could have kept them but they had to be returned. Additionally the straps were pretty tight which I appreciate for foot stability but that knowledge may let someone who can't stand that closeness know that these shoes may not be for them.

I may never take them off. I used to love reefs but over the years my foot needs changed and vionics are really comfortable but only last one season and for $80 I just can’t see buying $80 shoes every 3 months. These are awesome. Exactly what I wanted.
