Dakine

Dakine Logo
In 1979, Rob Kaplan began manufacturing the DaKine® Leash in Haiku, Maui, Hawaii. The DaKine surf leash was designed for rigorous Hawaiian conditions and set the standard for innovative design and high quality. After this innovative breakthrough, DaKine started to build on its reputation by building technical surfing and windsurfing accessories, such as in 1980, when pro windsurfers asked Rob to help build footstraps for their new wave boards. Throughout the early 1980s, DaKine developed the 1st adjustable footstrap, seat harness, and waist harness, defining the company as the leading innovator in technical windsurfing accessories.

DaKine moved their manufacturing and operations to Hood River, OR in 1986; besides being a popular windsurfing location on the mainland, it´s also a gathering place for the best professional snowboarders looking to ride on Mt. Hood. In 1989, after proving themselves as leaders in surf accessories, gear, and bags, DaKine committed to the rapidly expanding snowboard market with board accessories, board bags, and gear bags. By using their commitment to unique designs, high quality, and the desire to stay true to the spirit of the sport, the company would become the world leader in this market over the next 15 years.

Throughout the 1990s, DaKine moved into the snowsports glove category with a modest three styles, and has now expanded that line to close to 70 models today. In 1996, DaKine introduced the Heli Pack, which helped create the new category of minimalist technical backcountry day packs. In 1998, DaKine sought to surpass the Heli Pack and introduced the Heli Pro. In a short time, the Heli Pro becomes the standard for technical daypacks as well as the sport's best selling (and most copied) model. Also around this time, DaKine moved into skate specific packs, such as the Park Pack, which quickly became known for its innovation and durability.

A true leader in the world of bags, packs, and accessories, DaKine has also built a reputation in the travel category, whether it is board sport specific carriers or luggage. After celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2004, DaKine continues to pride itself on developing products for the top professionals in every board sport and building its reputation for innovation and quality for over a quarter of a century.

I have two other Dakine backpacks, which are great. I wanted another with the exact compartment and zipper style as the Essentials Mini 7L, even though I wasn't crazy about the fabric design. But I think I'm going to really like using it.

The Cosmo 6.5l backpack really holds a deceptive amount of items and has the perfect amount of simple and intuitive organization throughout. I’ve been using this backpack in the Waimea pattern for a while now and love it so so much. I get so many compliments and rightfully so! The orchid pattern arrived today and is just so beautiful. It’s much more green and thus more lovely than I expected. I did have to wrap all of the zippers in thicker thread because they are very loud against each other so I’ll have to do that for this bag too but that’s well worth the effort for this awesome little work horse. I’ve read Dakine might discontinue this bag so get yours right now!

This is the perfect overnight/light weekend/hiking bag. My only gripe is that there aren't internal pockets, but there are two side pouches and an elastic to secure a hoodie or jacket that's become too much. The straps to secure items stowed in the elastic cording and on the arm straps mean you and your cargo are comfortable. I absolutely adore the Eucalyptus print, it's botanical but not floral which immediately attracted me. I have other Dakine bags but this is a very convenient size for smaller trips

Excellent bag. Used it to travel for the items of my 2 young kids for two weeks abroad. (I travel every week for four days over seas, and with my family multiple times a year abroad) It was great to have the two separate compartments (one for each kid). Easy to access. No problem checking. Meets the size standards. The extendable handle extends plenty, the length of normal rolling luggage. With other duffle bag luggage I find the handles are too short to roll, defeating the purpose of a rolling duffle. Lots of straps to secure and stabilize the duffle and the items you pack, reducing the odds of items moving or getting destroyed enroute. Seems durable so far. I expect with multiple trips a year, we can expect this bag to last more than 5 years. I would buy this bag again.

I like the look of the bag. It works for me. It’s not that roomy inside, but all my books are digital, so I just needed something for a few notebooks & a small laptop. The insulated pocket isn’t that big either. It fits a sandwich & ice pack. If you need something for actual textbooks, I would get the bigger size.

This backpack is definitely suited to college students. Pretty organized. The water bottle holders are kind of a joke. It was way too much for my needs, so I will be returning it. I do not think it is well-suited for anything other than academia; its design is built around books. Therefore, not great for camping, hiking, or light travel/overnighting. Also kind of uncomfortable on your back. Cute look! Would have been great during my college years, if a little extra.

This is a small to medium size backpack that appears to be very well made. It’s a tad smaller than expected but it’s functional. It has a lot of different compartments and pockets to keep you organized and the straps look comfortable.

I'm 6'4". The back pack fits well. It distributes weight evenly across my shoulders. The back padding could be a little more but no complaints so far. The cooler pocket is a pretty cool feature. Not really big enough for Tupperware with leftovers, but a sandwich and a drink fits well. Overall, an excellent bag.

The seams inside these gloves are bulky and rough. I hate how they feel against my hands, and it makes it difficult to use my hands for anything. I also had hoped for the material to be higher quality, more like a neoprene. Definitely not worth the price.

I really like the size of this mini backpack. The main compartment is big enough for a water bottle and light jacket. The extra pockets and slots for smaller items are really convenient. It would've been the perfect backpack except for the straps. The straps were stiff and the edges poked into my arm, even trying it on with a thick sweater, the straps were still noticeable. I really wanted to keep it but after wearing it for several minutes around the house, the straps were too uncomfortable. I imagine I would not be very happy if I were to take this on a long hike.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my friend and she loves it. It's so pretty but strong and durable. The awesome history of the company that makes it is what sold me, look up Dakine it will be worth your while! Not to mention that it's made with recycled material, but you'd never even know it!

Great size fits everything I need for nursing school! My only complaint is this particular color is a lot darker in person than online picture it is more of a purple than pink and also the zipper pull started to fray (the material) after only a month. But was easy to fix with a lighter!

This is a nice smaller backpack, I'm 5' 1" and it fits my torso nicely and looks like a smaller daily backpack for going to work/the gym/whatnot. I will say it feels a little cheaper than my older Dakine backpacks, and the front pocket has no dividers or pouches or pen holding slots, it's just another smaller bucket pocket to dump things in.
