Converse by John Varvatos
Chuck Taylor All Star Vintage Slip
The fit in the toe box is a little narrow until broken in. Having wide feet, mine always rip at the knuckle of the pinkie toe. Once that rips, they become perfectly comfortable (I don't count the insoles as I always swap 'em for superfeet.) It seems odd to buy shoes knowing that they'll give in certain areas, but thats exactly what I like about these. As you wear them, the more they wear out aesthetically, the more they start to feel like you're just wearing socks, but equally important to you guys is aesthetics. Have you ever had a t-shirt or pair of jeans that you wore/wear that just keep getting rattier, taking on a more organic and personal appearance? Thats what these do. I've been wearing variants since, jeez, 08? I add black elastic bands, one per shoe, to supplement laces and improve the hold over the internal band so that they're still slip ons but with a very functionable fit. I get them filthy working, and the fabric patterns blend with the mess and frays.

they almost tear, but still love em

This is a terrific work/casual dress shoe disguised as a Converse slip on. Throw a set of slim laces on them, the white elastic band is puzzling I agree, but I've worn them twice to work and folks are shocked that they're All Stars.Wish they had a WIDE size option. My only deduction.

I'm 100% pleased and happy with my JV Chucks. I could not disagree more with the reviewers who complained about the softness of the leather and supposed crappy soles. I did eventually add shoelaces, just to take them up a notch. The lacing was a crossbar type with hidden "no- tie" aglets. These shoes rock!

They failed on the styling details... what a shame. They looked great but once you put them on you realize the inside is not color matching the the outside of the shoe and you can see it. The shoe is black and the inside was white! What a design flaw.

Cute shoe but the elastic that allows it to be lace free is too stretchy and my feet slip in and out with each step.

Perfect stylish, not run-of-the-mill low-top Converse All Stars. I love the aged look of the white midsole. The insert is definitely better than the standard Chucks. The clear outsole with the All Star logo adds style when kicking back relaxing. I wear w/ and w/out laces. No issues when wearing without laces. These are the perfect shoes for jeans and a t-shirt. Durability, as with most canvas shoes, is not the best as I have some slight tears in the rear of both shoes (about a year old, worn a few times a week). However, age always seems to give Chucks more character, so these are nowhere near retirement yet. All around, a great casual sneaker.

WAY too narrow! Owwwww! I've been wearing Converse for 20+ years and needless to say, my regular size (usually roomy) was tight, uncomfortable, and blister-inducing. Also, these are not that well made considering the price point. Returning.

Would have gone half size smaller and I already went half-size smaller so really...full size would have done, they're large for a slip-on style shoe. But threw on black laces and insoles and they're fine, still love the shoe.

I'm kinda disappointing notes in the Varvatos Converse lately. I had a par of the first Black Leather and white toe Varvatos converse. The leather was soft and it felt like a luxury shoe. I thought this would have been a blacked out version of the same shoe. It's not. This shoe feels like 3rd tier, Pakistani leather you would find at swap meet leather goods... i tried putting them in shoe stretchers hoping it would soften the leather but nope. The soles are pretty garbage as well. I swap out my soles from my Vhuck Taylor II's. The Lunarlon sole is thinner but way more comfortable. I'm on the fence about returning these shoes. I've worn them for about 5 minutes so far around the house. Don't think I can last a full day in these outside of the house.

I have never been able to wear converse because of the lack of arch support. These shoes have great arch support and are extremely comfortable!

Really cool pair of chucks! Just get half to full size smaller if you also use classic vans slip-ons. Also take notice that it is truely for narrow/medium width size feet. Really like it!!!

Way too narrow, sadly. Had to send them back

These Converse were great, love the distressed look, and was pleasantly surprised by the arch support these offered compared to classic Converse. I am usually a 13 but I learned from previous experience that Converse run a little large so I ordered the 12 and sure enough, perfect size.

Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, now buying them in colors! Very fashionable, I get tons of compliments. I play in a rock band, wear them during shows, feel great!

These definitely run large - a full size, I reckon - which is an important consideration for slip-ons. Downsize a half or even a full size for a better fit. Varvatos Converse shoes have a much better insole than normal Cons, an important factor for a Converse junkie such as myself. You definitely pay more for the name, but I feel it's worth it. Varvatos Cons are always stylish and comfortable, and always among my favorite shoes in my collection. I got this particular style from Zappos for $55 - an insanely good bargain, as you usually can't get a pair of Varvatos Cons for less than $100. Go for it, but go a bit smaller than usual.

I love these shoes!

So bummed... my feet aren't wide enough to warrant size wide shoes, and am used to shoes squeezing slightly at first, but these were so narrow that I had to return them... wish they weren't so narrow, they are a good looking lair of shoes!
Mark B from Prescott, AZ on October 24, 2016
My husband took these in a half size smaller than he normally wears. He has a very narrow foot and these fit wonderfully. Not recommended if you have a wide food. They look great and have held up very well - no complaints.

Stylish, comfortable shoes! What more could you want?

These look pretty cool but the John Varvatos styling comes at a price. Essentially an old time design and even with the with the removable cushion insert they still have the flat-ish feeling foot bed. I cut and added some Dr.Scholl's inserts and placed them under the factory insert under the heel and arch area to lift my foot at the heel a bit. Feels more natural to walk in them. I have found that they pull my socks down when I walk at the heel, even though the fit is pretty good. It may be due to a slight slipping at the rear when I walk but a smaller size would be too tight. It's a nice looking casual and like any shoe only a test fit can tell you if it is right for you. Quality seems to be pretty good.

It's a great looking shoe but has its issues that detract a bit from the looks. The tongue of the shoe wrinkles up with the laces so the shoe itself looks a bit sloppy. Also the elastic that holds the tongue in place can be seen at times which again detracts from the shoe's overall good looks. I ordered a half size smaller than normal and even it feels a little big. But I like them and they are comfortable. And while Zappos has gone WAY down hill the last year (IMHO), these shoes were priced well and arrived quickly.

Really like the fit, I am a size 10 and ordered a size 10,it fit fine. Was a little narrow at the toes at first, but once I broke them in, they were fine. Great to wear around the firehouse too!

John Varvatos Converse collection has lost its place in making the best shoes. I used to buy their classic since 2009 which had best fit and comfort. This model is bull crap at its best don't buy this if you have used classic John varvatos converse. The toes are narrower seems like they raised some flap around little toe it hurts my feet all day.
