In 1889, Hamilton Carhartt founded the Carhartt® brand with one goal in mind: to set a standard of excellence to which others would aspire. Early on, he understood that his products had to be different. Armed with an ambitious drive, four sewing machines, five employees and an entrepreneurial vision, he set out to establish a brand that would stand the test of time. Beginning by first producing railroad-specific apparel, the company has come a long way and now manufactures both work apparel and work footwear.
