This a good looking boot, but it's a man boot so it will never fit a lady's foot. I had to return it twice. so I have got the chance to wear it.

How does a boot like this from Bates not have a rear pull tab or loop? These boots are too slippery to get a good grip. They fit well and were moderately comfortable but with the difficulty of getting a side-zip boot on like this without a pull tab, they are getting returned.

So far so good. Hopefully they will last. Feel good so far.

I originally bought a size 8 and it was waaay too big. I tried 7.5 and it was still pretty large. The size 7 fits meet perfectly and it feels so strong and durable. Super waterproof and still really breathable, I'll definitely buy again in the future.

Very comfortable. I like the toe guard. I previously bought a pair of these boots but this pair is MUCH BETTER! Good fit

Fit and size were perfect, a well constructed boot with side zipper for fast removal.

I’m a Crime Scene Analyst in Las Vegas and spend a lot of time on my feet. I need shoes that are comfortable, durable, and solid black. I work at a minimum a 10 hour shift and regularly walk on surfaces ranging from hot asphalt, broken glass, blood, desert/rocks, and everything in between. These boots fit the bill for being solid black and while I’ve only had them a short time they do seem durable and easy to clean. The sole is nice and thick and there is good stability. Comfort is decent, not amazing, my feet don’t ache at the end of my shift, but I am considering getting insoles to add some cushion. My biggest issue is the the stiffness of the boot. They are very hard throughout the entire boot, even the part that comes up the ankle, so if the tongue shifts or a sock wrinkle happens it’s really uncomfortable/painful. The laces also go all the way up with holes rather than the top being hooks, which makes it hard to get the boot on and off. The boots are just so stiff and not being able to widen the opening, since the lace holes go to the top, is just an extra annoyance. So overall they are fine boots but I don’t think I’d buy them again.

I have flat feet and these have very little arch support. My feet get tired quickly in them. The width and length, however, are perfect. Unlike Hi-Tec and some others I have tried, Bates does not skimp around the ankle bones and the boots can be laced properly. Note these are NOT waterproof - water goes straight through mine. For the price these are better than most, but I think I will go back to Danner for my next pair.

The only problem I had was the sewing on the instep/arch has come loose and why did they sew the leather with the edges going back in instead of the edges overlapping like other boots doesn’t make sense

I suffer from Charcot foot in my left ankle and was hopeful this shoe would provide the support I needed. Oddly enough, it did; I just had great difficulty putting the shoe on. The side zipper, which I thought would be helpful in "opening up" the shoe, failed to do so. Instead, it actually made it more cumbersome. I ended up needing to unlace the shoe roughly half-way in order to insert my foot. I wouldn't mind if the shoe had hooks to re-lace the shoe, but it took just too much time to find and use the standard holes to re-lace the shoe. I really like the shoe and genuinely wished it fit me better than it did.

I feel like I am wearing my tennis shoes; my boots are so comfortable. Way to go Zappos. Thank you sharply for helping me with my concerns. RAS

I really like these boots and use them as more comfortable than regular motorcycle boots. This is my second pair, after the previous pair started to get too beat up over a few years of use. However I do not understand why these come with such exceptionally long laces, which leaves a full 18” or so of extra length . It seems like these are good laces for 7” or 9” boots, and they just use the same ones here. I ended up having to buy shorter laces separately.

These are nice boots, comfortable to wear, pretty good at slip resistance. The eyelet situation at the top of the boots is a little weird. It goes eyelet, then a hook and then eyelet. It takes a little getting used. Shoe laces are thinner than what you normally see on a boot but if you want to replace then you'll still need to buy thinner laces if you want the laces to attack to the eye hooks I previously mentioned. The toe box is roomy so I purchased thicker inserts to stabilize my foot in the shoe. But still and all they seem to be nice books very short break in period and a normal shiny black leather.

I like these shoes because they look great, feel great and can be used for both professional (work) and formal environments. These shoes make your overall look stand out. I'm glad I purchased these oxfords.

These boots are amazing and because they zip up, I fit the laces to where I like them and all I have to do is zip them up each morning. Extremely comfortable!

Well it's been a long strange trip trying to find a comfortable boot with good traction. There obviously is no standards when it comes to shoe size. What one company says is a size 10 may not fit with another company. Hell size 10 may not be the same within the same company between the different shoe models. It's the same problem with widths too. So you don't really know what you're getting until they show up at your house. And this is where zappos really shines. I appreciate their patience. These boots are true to fit and are comfortable right out of the box. They may need some breaking in for flexibility but nothing major. They seem to have a decent cushion with the foot pad and the toe box is roomy. They are a shinny black leather. The lacing is a little weird because at the top it goes eyelet then hook then eyelet so it may take a few more seconds to lace them up when you are putting them on. The shoe laces are a bit narrower than what you might find on other boots. All and all these boots are very comfortable and provide good traction.

When I first tried them on, they were snug and fit well. After a few weeks of wear, they are stretching out a lot and now feel a whole size too large. Otherwise, they seem to be good boots. Wearing size 14 means very few options, and these would be great if I had ordered size 13.

I want to start by saying that I had very high expectations for these Bates boots...in summary, I am VERY disappointed! If you want more detail, see below. Overall: - Suede material: Very hard to keep clean, but it is possible. The material is VERY stiff right out of the box. - Ankle Support: The back of the boot matched with the heel cup is a combination for major discomfort. - Arch/Insole Support: Lacking. My feet were sore after 10-hr shift in these boots walking on concrete all day. - Laces: Lacing system was awkward - the eyes in the ankle crease area are made to prevent the laces from slipping up or down, so you have to pull them outward and then up to lock them in. This process is difficult when you have your laces tight or want them tighter. The laces are very hard, so were gloves when putting them on and pulling on them to tighten your boots. As a prior service combat veteran, these boots should be pulled from Bates' line-up ASAP! If I were still serving and given a pair of these Bates GX-8 Desert Composite Toe Side Zip Boots (E02276) - I would hand them right back and fight the war in sandals or go bare foot! These boots felt like casts on my feet. Even after 16-days, (8) 10-hour shifts in these boots, the boots ARE STILL NOT BROKEN IN! I tried to put them on today for another 10-hour shift and I had to pull them back off of my feet as I was walking out of the door. I put on my 1-yr old work boots. I am praying I can return these to Zappos or I will have to try Bates Customer Service. I am sad for Bates and I am even sadder knowing someone else will potentially buy these boots and waste their money!

Comfort out-of-box, lightweight, water resistant. Laces not the best, will see if they last as long as my Adidas did.

Awesome Boots, and they feel great on my feet! They are a must buy! Will purchase again! I purchased the Mens-14EE!

These boots are comfortable, I always had to leave them unzipped and unstrapped because they wore against my ankle but any high top shoe will do that to me. I liked the look but the skin skuffs easily and they get ratty looking kind of fast but these are my work boots. I would recommend these you will not regret ordering them.
