I was really looking forward to this product. I have the Road-X 155s, and I love them. The Bare-X 200s seemed ideal to me, as they have a zero drop and a less flashy color. However, after trying them on and taking a quick walk around the room, I found them to be uncomfortable at the top of the foot, just behind the toes, where the foot/shoe bends. It seems like this might be due to the plastic reinforcement that runs from the laces to the front of the shoe. The Road-X 155s don't have this plastic, and are superbly comfortable. It's a shame, because I really do love the rest of the shoe. Perhaps the shoe just needs to be worn in, but I can't really afford to take that chance, so I returned them. I'm now waiting for the Bare-X 150s to come out. Hopefully they don't have the same issue, because I want to keep loving Inov-8 shoes.

I found the same exact problem as the previous reviewer. The plastic piece by the upper front foot area is too stiff and hurt my foot everytime I took a step.

I'm a bit perplexed by the previous two reviews. I actually wear this shoe barefoot (no socks) and it may very well be the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. Flat, super light, fast, etc. It has a wider toe box so your toes are able to splay a bit more, providing penultimate grip and push-off. I know many CrossFitters prefer dark shoes so they don't get filthy, but I LOVE this shoe for my CrossFit workouts! I can run as many as 5 miles (so far) in them, but naturally I stick mostly to sprinting in my CF WODS. The TPU on the medial and lateral sides also offer great rope protection... at least until we can all get our hands on those XF's coming out next spring. I also put the 200's in the wash (with whites) using liquid detergent... came out brand new, no issues whatsoever. I would wholeheartedly recommend this shoe to runners, lifters, and CrossFitters looking for a zero drop racer.

These shoes are awesome runners. Not for the untrained or new to minimalist runners. They feel like socks with a thin rubber sole...can't even tell they're there. I wear them for running and crossfit workouts. Have long worn the F-Lite 230s, so the transition to a "bare" sole has been easy.

Inov-8’s are amazing. The Bare-X is the most comfortable, light, and responsive shoe I own and with over 150 pairs of running shoes that says a lot. Just buy them, but transition slowly if you haven't worn barefoot running shoes previously.

About inov-8
All inov-8 footwear goes through extensive testing by enthusiasts and elite international athletes, to guarantee they perform like they should. Their whole design development process centers on optimizing the end user's performance. The uppers of inov-8 shoes are extremely functional with mesh in the forepart and tongues for maximum breathability. This creates a good climate that helps you run at your best. When you run through water and the shoe gets soaked, it creates a pumping action that expels the water from the shoe allowing it to dry quickly. The lace webbing is positioned allowing a secure foothold without altering the natural alignment of the metatarsals. The back of their shoes are cleanly cut which allows your Achilles tendon to experience high levels of comfort and minimum restriction- particularly when running down hill.
The inov-8 team is made up of experts with proven track records in the footwear fields of sports, mountaineering, marine, outdoor and industrial design and development. This linked with a strong bio-mechanics input, coupled with a test team of elite athletes in the mountain sport environment gives inov-8 the creative culture for next generation products.

What a beautiful shoe. Sometimes I just look at it. It has all the qualities of a minimalist shoe: flexibility, no cushion, lightweight. What sets it apart is the zero drop which gives it the best ground feel you'll get outside of VFF's or being barefoot. It is also durable enough to handle rope climbs although the plastic covering decreases traction on the rope. I've used it for Crossfit WODS and been very satisfied. These shoes can handle anything except the rare swim or the skydiving predicted to be in next year's CF Games. The predominately white color can be hard to rock unless you're hip hop or a ninja, but I just fake self-confidence and no one notices. However, I have found these shoes seem to take to the sockless approach in terms of form, feel, & performance. A light dusting of corn starch or baby powder before use keeps odor at bay. Thanks, Inov-8!
Brands I'd also recommend: Minimus MT10, Vibram FiveFIngers

I have really enjoyed these shoes. I definitely feel an increased amount of proprioception and mobility in my feet since wearing them. I wear them as my everyday shoes. The only problems I have found are that one of the shoe laces began to fray, and has continued to get worse, from the first time I put them on. Secondly, any pants I wear with them have to be cuffed several times to keep from going under the shoe, because they're so small. I haven't had this problem before with any other shoes.

Great shoe for crossfit training. Not good for longer runs unless you run minimal or barefoot already. Highly recommend this shoe.

Although I am a runner, I don't use these shoes for running. They are the best shoes I've ever had for officiating swim meets. They're comfortable, don't slip on the deck, and dry quickly. I love them.

These are beautiful shoes, but like previous reviews have said, the two strips of plastic atop the toes are an issue. Although I did not run in these shoes, I would guess that the plastic would be an issue, just from walking around in them. I would recommend trying the Bare-XF 210 or Bare-X 180 because those two styles do not have the plastic piece.

Great Shoe. I have low arches, this shoe is perfect because it does not force an arch. Lots of room in the toe box allows toes to spread out.
