Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Money well spent! These boots are not only well made, but they are also quite stylish and very comfortable. Opened the box, put them on and off I went---comfy from the start. I would definitely recommend these boots to all.

These are beautiful boots, but the calf dimension is very skinny! I have other Frye boots and they are perfect, but these fit very tight around the calf.

I love these boots! Both the black & redwood colors are beautiful &, of course, very well made. But the boots are absolutely stunning in the redwood! The logo shows up much better & they are more unique looking in the redwood color than in the black. Strangers stop to ask me about them & both male & female friends notice & compliment them! I had wanted Frye boots for years but not only had the price stopped me from buying but I have a narrow foot & the Frye boots I had tried on were always too wide. The Dorado Riding boots were beautiful but were so big on my narrow foot that I could just kick them off. I initially ordered my normal size 7 1/2 in black & the redwood in size 7. I wound up sending both back & getting the redwood in a 6 1/2, a full size smaller than I usually wear. Not only are these boots gorgeous but they were very comfortable from day 1. There was no break in time as I had expected. They are very well made. The soles are textured to avoid slipping & the rubber on the back end of the heel makes walking very easy & comfortable too. Even though I've had them a few weeks I have worn them many times & they are extremely comfortable, they fit well, are beautiful & I get so many compliments! They are well worth the money! And I am so thankful to have these boots! Did I mention that I love these boots?

This boot is stunning. Superb styling. Stiff (stands straight, doesn't bend) but gorgeous leather. I'm 5'2 and the back of the boot hits 1.5" below the bend of the back of my knee. I was afraid it would be too tall but good thing I wear a 6. Of course, the bigger the size, the taller the shaft.

Really pretty boots. Quality leather. Unfortunately, I had to return mine because they were just too tall. They were so tall on my leg that I was unable to sit down comfortably. There is more than enough to tuck pants into them if you have to. Best to buy straight leg pants though. But lots and lots of room if need be. Since they are Frye, a predominately western style boot, they do have a pointy, upward turning toe. Frye quality definitely seems to be there.
