Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.
In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.
The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

I have four pairs of Frye boots, all of them size 10, but the sizing on this boot is off, since the 10 is way too big at the heel, and I could not even get my foot into a 9. There is no side zip. This is very disappointing since the look is so good.

I was disappointed with this boot and sent it back. First, it is made in China, not Mexico, and the leather is definitely different than what I expect from Frye. It was thicker, stiffer, and cheaper looking. Also, the heel was huge even though the instep felt snug. Overall, this just isn't the quality and fit I expected. (I have Taylor boots that I wear several times a week and love).

I really love these boots... Look, height, etc. Only complaint... While they have a rubber sole, the bottom of heel is plastic so they are loud when walking. No clue why Frye wouldn't have made the heel rubber as well.

Kudos for Zappos for the fast shipping. The purchased my regular size. The footbed felt fine, considering the heel height but the heel does slip. I put insoles in all my boots because my foot is so narrow, that did not stop the slippage. I love the putty color and I don't find them any stiffer than my Mildred engineer than I purchased 2-3 years ago. Keeping them.

Rec'd mine today in "putty". Loved the boot, color, style, just couldn't get it on. Very tight slip in and disappointed to see they were made overseas. Also has a really weird smell, not leather. Sorry to say not usual Frye quality. But Zappos rocks with next day delivery and I probably will not keep these, so sorry.
