The Frye Company was founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a shoemaker from England. Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers for both sides of America’s Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-America war, and for Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. Many New England families during the mid and late 1800’s wore Frye boots as they pioneered across the country to the West.

Frye's current Harness Boots are rooted in tradition and continue to draw influence from the Cavalry. Today the classic Harness Boot holds a place in American culture. The Frye Harness Boot has been pictured in fashion spreads internationally. In 1938, on a trip to Washington, D.C., John A. Frye's grandson and namesake met a U.S. Navy Admiral who confided that he had trouble finding the Wellington boots he liked so much. As a favor, John agreed to make him a pair. Frye continued to fill requests for these boots through the Second World War. During World War II, Frye supplied thousands of servicemen with Frye Wellington boots, known as Jet Boots, by mail order.

In the 1960's, Frye reintroduced the Campus Boot, from its 1860 original, featuring a bulky toe and chunky heel that came to epitomize the attitude and the style of the 60's and 70's. There was nothing like these "new" Frye Boots on the market, and consumers began to demand "Original Fryes." When searching for items to represent the America of the 60's, the Smithsonian Institute chose a pair of Frye Boots.

The quality of all Frye shoes is timeless. For almost 150 years, Frye leather products have continued to be benchcrafted from the finest full grain leather uppers. It takes over 190 steps to make one pair of Frye boots. Frye remains dedicated to the commitment of craftsmanship for which Frye boots and Frye shoes have been known for more than 100 years.

Love these boots! I\'ve only worn them around the house yet but they are very comfortable. As for sizing, I was uncertain because of the reviews. Most people were saying they run 1\/2 to a full size too large. And they will "break in". I usually wear 9 1\/2 or 10. So I ordered a 9. It was a struggle to get them on and off and I tried them on for 3 days. It did not get much easier so I ordered a 9 1\/\/2 and they went right on. It seems they are not so much longer, but wider or roomier. If you are a solid shoe size I would go 1\/2 size down. If you are one of 2 sizes, just go with the lower size. Hope this helps.

Fits true to size. Was a little concerned that the toe box was snug but after wearing for a day it fits well.

Amazing boots! Just received them in the mail. I actually had to use saran wrap to get them on at first, but they have stretched out and they now fit perfectly. Beautiful distressed leather and squared toe. Love them, thanks Zappos!

Have been wanted these boots for a long time. This year I told everybody to give me money or Zappos gift cards for my birthday so I could finally get them. I'm normally a size 10 so ordered a 9 1/2 as per the recommendations. I couldn't get my foot in the boot. Called Zappos and what amazing customer service. They sent out new boots at no charge that were delivered the next day in a size 10. Size 10's were huge. What a bummer. Mother in law suggested wearing nylons to get the 9 1/2's on. I did do that and I did get them on, but they just didn't feel right. Had to send both back. They are beautiful though, amazing quality.

These boots are fantastic. They are so well-made. They are quite heavy so I wasn't sure about comfort, but I have worn them all day long on several occasions with great results. I have a small foot - I generally order a 5 in boots, so these are a little roomy for me (Frye sizes start at 5.5), but I just wear thicker socks. The color is fantastic with all shades of denim. These are my new favorite boots.
