Very nice all around shoe, I wear them on and off the bike. Definitely in the skater style, they look a little goofy with the low-rise socks I prefer. Works well on the pedals, but in retrospect I would have gotten a high top and not the low, I've wiped out a couple of times and not having protection on my protruding ankle bone has meant some nasty road rash.

Well, it's an excellent shoe. This is my second pair, used for riding and racing downhill as well as all around use. For riding they stick very well to pinned pedals; for all around use they're just okay; they do slip on wet grass (more than sneakers for example) or any surface where you need a shoe to dig in and provide a bit of grip. The only serious downside I encountered came about when my old pair started to wear (after 3 solid years) and the support gave way leading to foot pains. The "stealth rubber" seems to provide little cushioning on its own after the insoles wear out. Got a new pair, no more foot pains.

Good sticky rubber. Only complaint is the shoe is a little wide because it often drags on the crank arm if you do not have your foot placed just right. Maybe I am too accustomed to the small clipless. I do like the support of having the full shoe on the pedal versus the small area that clipless shoes provide you. Just learning how to jump and keep your foot on the pedal.

I purchased these shoes for cross country mountain biking. They grip better than regular shoes, and are also nice and stiff. If you are using platform pedals these are great.

First of all, they do what they say. You stick to those pedals, and that's exactly what I bought them for. They're beefy so they fit a little boot-like. More room above my feet than I would like but I have kind of narrow feet. They don’t breathe either. But still, they're well made and if you hit me up in 5 years I’m sure I’ll still be rockin through the mud on my flats with them.

Five Ten – Inspired by the impossible

A family owned company, 5.10 (also known as Five Ten) has stood at the forefront of fine craftsmanship, high-performance and fashion forward technical designs within the outdoor industry since 1985. Born with a rich rock climbing heritage, 5.10 is known world-wide for the high-quality, fit and friction of their shoes, where footwear can make the difference between success and failure. Today, they continue to bring their climbing heritage to all of their products, as well as exciting innovation, quality craftsmanship and unmatched durability. Climbers, kayakers, mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners, canyoneers, and everyone else who wants technical/fashionable outdoor footwear depend on 5.10 for safety, state-of-the-art innovation, and out-of-the-box comfort.

As a huge climbing enthusiast, Charles Cole, founder and President of 5.10, knows that a good grip on a well-made shoe means everything. Determined to create a better rubber to make climbing easier, Charles developed Stealth© rubber soles, which increase the amount of body weight the rubber could bear before its bond broke away from the rock. By merely purchasing a new shoe, climbers could better climb with a sure-footed grip. Pushing the envelope even further, Cole continues to expand 5.10 soles even further with Stealth© S1, Stealth© C4, Stealth© HF (high friction), Stealth© Amphibia (water compatible), and Stealth© ONYXX, which provides 25% more friction and is twice as durable as any other climbing rubber available.

Stealth© rubber was just the tip of the iceberg for Cole and 5.10. Responsible for today’s modern rock shoe design, Cole invented a plethora of firsts which include: the first sling shot rand, the first down-turned last, the first heel wedge to cushion impact, adding pull tabs on both climbing and approach shoes, baseball stitching to alleviate hot spots, graded midsoles to adjust the shoe’s flexibility to different weights, the first self-draining water shoe and the first ankle to toe lacing on an approach shoe to allow for a performance custom fit. Throughout the years, there have been various 5.10 innovations, and in the years yet to come, their dedication will lead to many more.

As the shoe-of-choice for the world's top climbers, 5.10 is 100% committed to innovation and performance. All of their unique footwear designs have been produced with one goal in mind: to do what is best for outdoor sports athletes who use 5.10 shoes. From hiking to paddling to mountain biking, recreational and expert athletes alike know that Five Ten means more than footwear- Five Ten shoes are essential equipment for adventure. Rest assured that 5.10 is working hard on next season’s models and that they will be bringing something wild, new and exciting into the world of adventure sports.

Five Ten – Where unique comfort, durability and technological advances combine to create the best footwear in the world.

The reviews are true about these shoes being sticky. Once you place them on the pedals you can’t slide them around. This was quite a change from my Vans which would slide all over. They are well made and very durable. They are a bit heavier than Vans but not by much. They are more of a hiking/biking shoe instead of a beach shoe. I have met other riders who have had these shoes over 2 years and they are still holding up. My Vans wore out and the soles were falling off in a few months. I have never seen a tongue design like this where it is integrated in to the side of the shoe. It works great, stays put, and does not slide over. If you want the best non-clip-in shoes you can get for mountain biking get some of these.

Great Shoe and Great Service - I have wide feet and this fits wide and snug... but not too snug as to be uncomfortable. It only took a few moments for the shoes to conform to my feet and they feel great! Zappos customer service is stupendously amazing! Ordered Saturday and received it Monday - wow!

Great shoes. Fabulous shoes. Bought them for my son who goes to college and works. He loves the comfortable fit and great stability. They are extremely well made. Plans to wear them for mountain biking also.

Grips like crazy - I purchased the five tens for daily riding and downhill use. At first the soles felt very uncomfortable but I am used to Asics so maybe I'm picky. A trip to the store for some Dr. Scholl’s gel inserts has made the five tens a perfect daily riding shoe. The grip is amazing.

Excellent shoe - Bought the shoe to ride mountain biking on platform pedals. Fit was to size, soles grip the platforms like glue. Big shoes for the size, so don't expect them to make your feet look small(er). I have a slightly wide foot, and they fit fine. So maybe a person with a narrow foot would find them a bit wide? Couldn't be happier. Well, if they'd been free...

Sticky rubber for pedals. These are it as far as feet sticking to pedals. I wish they were more narrow (or my feet were wider).

I have had my Five Ten Impacts for a year and they are amazing. I ride a lot and the sole looks like it's in nearly new condition. Not torn or chunked at all. The stealth rubber grips like crazy. Great for DH and I use them for XC always. I hope they never stop making this shoe, and if they do I will buy ten pairs to use until I die!!!

The best mountain biking flats on the market. They grip the pedal very well and have an extremely stiff sole. The toe casing is solid, making rock and stump hits less scary.

Best Flat Shoes Available - Face it; you'll buy this for the performance, not the looks. You're still not going to get near the performance of clipless, but this is as good as it gets for flat pedals. Very, very grippy; sometimes when it really sinks in, I can even pull up a pedal. Comfort-wise, the shoe is very tight, so I give it 4 stars. Fit is otherwise excellent. For aesthetics, you might consider the Sam Hill edition that will be my next purchase once/if these wear out. Although you must also expect the shoes to be covered in dirt.

Five Ten Impact Shoe......Excellent Choice - Excellent shoe. If you want a shoe to ride with flats this is the one. For one, it won't let go, unless you pick your foot up. I usually ride clipped in, but I can honestly say that I might as well go back to flats, because this shoe is just as good as clips. So far the sole has held up nicely, it is pretty stiff compared to other shoes, and it is very comfortable.

A great all-around shoe, not just for biking - Personally I liked the style of the original impact better, but since I can't find it in my size I went with the impact2. Fit, comfort and durability are all top notch. This is a great everyday shoe. The sole is super grippy on everything but paint (i.e. on painted asphalt they grip like normal shoes) I love how the shoe is designed around the shape of the foot. The "raptor tongue" never gets sucked down into the shoe when I put it on. The laces move easily through the nylon webbing eyelets which are under the leather upper, thus protecting the laces from abrasion. This shoe required no breaking in what so ever. Although the sole was a little stiff to begin with it was never uncomfortable and actually added a little spring to my step. I have screws and pins in my right foot and a lot of bone scarring so finding a shoe that fits is difficult but the 5.10s fit right from the first time I donned them. I wear these everyday and the support and comfort are top notch. I have put about 200 walking miles on these shoes and they look great, feel great and grip like glue. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a dependable, day in, day out shoe that can do double duty as a mountain biking, hiking or rock scrambling shoe.
