I live at an elevation of 7030 ft. in the Colorado Rockies, and I bought this sweater for camping, fishing, and walking/hiking. I've used this garment while walking in 20 temps, snowing and windy, with only a light wind-breaker over it and I stayed very warm. I'm 6 ft.- 1" tall, and 230 lbs. and the XL tall fits very well. I plan on buying another one in green.

These sweaters run large and long and not typical of LL Bean sizing. Heavy and warm, I wear these fly fishing, casual events, around the house etc. I now have 3, returned one for a slight defect at the zipper and exchanged. A bit on the pricey side but if you catch a sale and/or have "points" to burn these are a good value. I can't say anything about longevity but they appear to be well made. I found the yarns used to be soft and not to be irritating to my skin. The lining on the collar helps with this I'm sure. Recommend you order one size down.

A very warm and well made sweater. The sizing is a little off. I normally would wear a meduim , but I had to exchange for a small. LL Bean handled the exchange w/o any problems

I bought this sweater for my husband for Christmas, and the timing was perfect, as he works outdoors sometimes, and the temps dropped to the teens right after he got this sweater. He wore it twice the same week and said he was warmer than all the times he's layered up. And it doesn't itch! I was worried with it being wool, he'd complain of it being bulky or itchy, and neither are the case. He actually asked me to buy "one in every color." I guess that alone is a good review!

Great sweater! I have two regular Waterfowl Sweaters and have just ordered a third. They hold their shape, don't itch, wash well, and are warm. Not much else you would want in a wool sweater besides to look nice, which they do too. I've also got one with the windproof liner and on cold windy days it's a great sweater, but unless it is really chilly it's almost too warm.

Apparently, father in law took it out of the mail, opened up the package and hasn't actually taken it off since. His wife says that he is crazy about it. I am happy about sending this as a Christmas present.

This sweater wins. Warm, thick, fits well. I usually wear an XL (just over 6', 190) and I ordered a Large, per many reviewers' suggestions , and it was the right move. I will now commence to live in this until late Spring.

I may never take this off. It's winter in Maine and this sweater is perfect for cold weather. The collar is lined and comfortable on the neck, the elbow of the sleeves are reinforced and the overall weight perfect for this climate. I also have a Guernsey sweater and this one is equal in comfort and weight.

By most sizing guidelines, I wear a Medium and this sweater's Medium is exactly right, at least for me. And the zip up collar keeps me nice and warm. layered under a parka, on very cold and windy days. A great sweater!

I've had this for a couple of weeks now and have really enjoyed it. It's warmth matches up very well with my traditional Irish fisherman's sweater (which is high praise) and it's style and convenience make it as comfortable as my favorite "cheap" fleece pullover.

This is my husband's favorite winter sweater. It is the best one he has for cold weather, as it really keeps him warm. It fits well, holds it's shape, and is good-looking. It is suitable for a wide range of activities, from casual to dressy. It is well worth the price for the quality and durability.

The sweater was of the quality I expect from LLBean, which is why I continue to shop here. The wool was heavy, felt soft and durable and warm, and the zipper material was also high quality. Thanks for not dissappointing me.

This sweater is smart looking and warm. Very comfy too. My husband loves it. Worth the money on both the fashion and function sides! Just in time for the wintry season.

I spend my winters in Florida and football season in upstate NY. This sweater is so warm it saves me in the late season games. Think so well of it I just bought one for my son-in-law.

This is the most comfortable sweater I've ever owned. Had it sent to Denver, CO for a tour out West and wore it mornings and evenings just over a tee and days at high altitued over a long sleeved thermal tee. Sweater is soft and warm without binding or feeling stuffy. Loved the collar with the soft lining - could zip it up to keep out cold breezes or fold it down warmer areas.

A well made warm sweater. I received several compliments the first time I wore. Fit was good, large on my 180 pound frame. It should last for a long time judging from its construction. Only down side is it requires hand washing or dry cleaning.

This sweater fits well with room to wear a dress or spf shirt under. Other sweaters I've bought seem to baggy. And the wool is warm. You need a chilly day for this sweater.

I am very active outdoors with shooting, archery, fieldwork, hiking, etc. Always looking for well made sweaters that can stand up to our damp-to-soaky Wet Side winter weather. Women's sweaters tend to be foofy rather than practical, and many men's sweaters are plain ugly...but this one is an exception. Nearly each time I've worn this sweater, I've been asked about it. And the asker is always amazed to find out it's an LL Bean men's sweater. The fashion standard in this part of the world is Outdoorsy Geek, so I've gotten away with wearing this sweater with equestrian boots and a long soft skirt...to the opera. As well as with dance tights and hiking boots for robust city days. And of course in more foresty/seaside settings. It's versatile, cozy, soft, it moves well with activity, it makes an excellent layer under a wind shell, it's surprisingly rain resistant, and at the range, the slightly wider upper sleeve makes shouldering rifles (standing, bench, or prone) and drawing bow strings a snap--no pulling across the shoulders. This really is close to the perfect sweater!

Today, I bought my 3rd waterfowl sweater mostly out of fear they discontinue the model. This is the single best item I've ever purchased from LL Bean. One I keep more for dress but the other two are working sweaters. I spend most of October and November on the prairies of Alberta, Montana, and Idaho hunting huns and sharptails and when the prairie winds blow this sweater keeps me warm even in light rain. The merino wool is non itchy, light weight, warm when wet, and breathable when exerting. If the weather turns really bad, I just add a Bean windstopper vest. I can hunt and hike all day and never get cold and yet still have the mobility to swing and shoot effortlessly. The windstopper model sweater is too warm for most October days and makes me feel clammy. When I head north in the fall, the only indispensible items on the list are the dog, the gun and a waterfowl sweater-it's that good.
