I don't know how to edit my previous review so I'm making a new one. I got the size wrong the first time and I was not pleased with the outcome but that was my fault. For me and my altra shoes, these ran a half size small. I wear a 10 in many sneaker models but needed a 10.5 in this model. The size 10's caused toe bruising and ankle marks (I had to find an alternative way to tie the top two eyelets for them to work for me). I now love these so much in the appropriate size I have both colors. I have worn them on the trail, in the snow and rain and to work in which I'm in and out of the elements. They have kept me dry and performed like a boss. They're also showstoppers and people stop me to tell me how much they like them. I hope you never stop making these just as they are! I know altra likes to constantly change models around but there's no need for that; these are perfect as is!

The sizing is a true fir. The comfort was better than I expected from a hiking boot! The boot is stiff at first for laces and getting foot in, but once on they are very comfortable and they wear in fast. They look great and not too heavy or bulky. They keep my feet dry! These are great on muddy and rainy days when my low-cut shoes are not enough!

I have several pairs of altras and other hiking shoes but these are my favorite. Perfect for mud and snow and are actually waterproof. They're not too heavy or bulky feeling like other waterproof boots. They have perfect cushion for me and my ankle feels well supported on uneven terrain. I didn't have issues with hitting my ankles as others said but did start with shorter hikes to break them in. They were comfortable for me right out of the box. I'd definitely buy again!

Perfect Altra classic fit, as described. Enough tread to feel fully supported in any terrain, even deep snow. Totally waterproof and the best color combinations, as always. I would buy these in all other color ways if I could hike everyday.

I have always had flat flat feet, narrow heels, wider toes and recently a Taylor's bunion. I used to wear Oboz wide but the traction wears out in 6 months or less and it still rubs my Taylor bunion. Bought these Altra's afs a reward for a hike and I just hiked 7 miles and 1700 ft today with no foot strain. It was steep and rocky but these shoes are amazballs! Thank you for making these!

Altra Running Women's Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX Are absolutely wonderful. I was a bit skeptical about the comfort and fit due to the thick heel on the shoe but I was absolutely wrong. They are super comfortable and making hiking on rock and uneven surfaces super easy. They fit perfect. I am always a size 7 consistently, and these fit excellent. I have absolutely no complaints and the waterproof feature is strong. I walked through streams with no wetness getting through. These are my new go to hiking boots.

I love Altra shoes (7.5 in running shoes) . Due to an ankle injury sometime ago I switched to a mid rise hiking shoe. Prior to Altra releasing this shoe my only Altra option was the Lonepine, which just didn't fit my foot that well (an 8 felt too long and wide and a 7.5 too short). These fit amazing in an 8, plus have extra cushioning in the sole compared to the Lonepine. Love these shoes!!!

All reviews say the same thing - there is a pinching seam near the ankle support. It is true. Absolutely mindless that they would design this that way. Returning.

I love Altra since the wide toe rooms helps with my bunions. However, the cushioning doesn't help after 14 miles.. Plus, I keep loosing my footing on steep slopes. The shoes performed great on regular terrains, but when going on a trail with many different terrains, it doesn't hold up to the job.

I've loved the Lone Peak mid hiker for a few years now, but manage to trash a pair every season. Despite other middling reviews, I decided to give these a go, as I was hoping for a more rugged hiking shoe in the Olympus. I put about 50 miles on these shoes in the first two weekends--lots of ascent, descent, on-trail and off-trail travel. The annoying pressure point at the ankle escalated into a constant pain that could only be relieved by unlacing and tying the shoe below the two highest eyelets, eliminating any ankle support. I tried different lacing techniques, tried giving them time for my feet to get used to them, but it didn't work. I'll be taking advantage of the 30-day return window (thanks, Altra, for that option!). Hopefully the next iteration improves on these design flaws.

When I did the PCT I started out in the high top Lone Peaks, which I really liked but my feet need the extra cushion. Later on in the hike the low cut Olympus is my go to shoe. So starting out the AT I thought, this will be great! Because of the long days the Gortex seemed like a bad idea, but I figured it was better than bruising my feet again. Turns out the waterproofing isn't the worst part of these shoes. 1. The knobby thing the laces go through at the top is trying to kill me!! Within 24 hours I have tripped over the laces over 5 times. The first one flung me into the ground, I got scrapped up and hurt my elbow. 2. That ankle nod is pretty uncomfortable 3. They feel narrower than my other Altras. I did a window lace and that seems to have helped. All in all I'm really hoping I don't accidentally fling myself down a mountain before I get the chance to swap them out with none lethal laces. I still gave it a 2 star review because I feel like if they just made the exact same high top Lone Peak shoe but with Olympus padding I'd have my perfect start of a thru hike shoe. This one is cushioned, and does almost do what I want. It's just a health risk

I have never found a comfortable pair of hiking boots until these. I got these boots almost 2 years ago and have done hundreds of kilometres in them and they remain in great shape. I know the reviews are mixed but I really hope this boot is remade for years to come, I'll keep buying them forever!

After wearing LP Mids for a few years, I needed more cushioning after developing Plantar Fasciitis in one foot. I tried the Timp Hiker Mid but these hurt the top of my feet. Then bought the Olympus Mid (secondhand) and loved them. With the right insoles and socks they've been great sofar (4 months regular walking). They are still waterproof as well. The vibram tread is great, especially after wearing the LP Allweather boots. I bought a second pair in the sale which are less comfortable as they need a bit of wearing in and the seam on the ankle rubs on this pair (though a bit of thin foam put inside the boot helps that). My only issue is, they are too wide for my feet. I really need these in a standard width. Please Altra, make these in the standard width (and sell them in the UK). The Timp Hiker Mid just doesn't fit. And no daft colours!

I am using this product for winter running and hiking through snow. I love the fit and love the support. It is also 100% waterproof and the hiking boot height works perfectly to keep snow out of my shoes.

I wasn't sure I wanted hiking boots and I didn't know if these would work for my feet. I loved them! I took them to Iceland and put them through miles and miles of everything and lots of crazy weather. They kept my feet dry, warm, and comfortable.

Literally the best shoes I've ever had on my feet. I am desperately searching for their standard shoe counter part. The only shoes I can wear that don't make my feet go numb. Extremely waterproof.

Comfortable with 2 pairs of socks. Feet stayed warm and dry on snowy trails. Absolutely no problems with blisters like I get with every other hiking boot. Lots of room for my toes uphill and downhill.

I wouldn't mind a bit more flexibility on the sole. I haven't tripped, which can be an issue. Very secure around ankle. Lots of room for my splayed foot. Waterproof. What are the bands above heel for?

I bought these for hiking in Iceland, not knowing what to expect for weather or terrain. I could not have done some of trails without a good ankle support boot, or without the tread. Very impressed with comfort and construction. No break in period, my feet stayed warm and dry. Altra shoes will be my brand going forward. Can't thank you enough for making a wide toe base shoe!!!

Long time Altra devotee here- love the zero drop & wide toe boxBought the Sand version last Fall for a long trip to Europe. They were just perfect, comfortable and most stylish- even garnered many Parisian compliments(!) They are best my cooler season shoes, and often used in the garden, handles dirt no problem!

I typically size up a half size for hiking boots to account for slight swelling, but needed to go up a full size for this style. No problem with free & easy returns. After getting my correct size, these were GREAT for my first hike in them, covering lots of elevation and miles. Zero adjustment or break in period, just comfort and support. The GTX is up to standards. I got home from my hike in these and immediately ordered the Men's version for my partner and the regular walking shoe for every day use for myself! This is my favorite Altra style to date.

I hope this review will push this boot's overall rating up a bit. Like many other reviewers, I am a die hard Lone Peak fan, both the trail runners and boots, but needed something more waterproof and with more durable soles (I go through 3-4 pair of Lone Peak mid boots yearly and will continue to use in hot, dry weather). This Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX has satisfied both requirements and will be my boot when I trek Scotland's West Highland Way this fall. When I first got the Olympus, I felt the ankle seam others complain of, but was easily able to overcome that with minor adjustment and have hiked hundreds of miles in them happily. It was such a trivial fix I don't even remember what I did! The boot offers more support on rough terrain but still has the zero drop and wide toe box I cherish in the Altra brand. I appreciate the longer-lasting Vibram sole. I recently had to do 22(!) nimble rock-hopping stream crossings on a longer hike and had all the flexible grippiness I could hope for and my feet stayed dry (as in I didn't even get the boots wet). On other hikes, I've stepped in water that would have left my feet sopping wet in my Lone Peaks, but though the water came up over the laces, my feet stayed dry. I have no problems with the tight ankle cleats and prefer them that way. Until I read a couple reviews complaining the back pull loop might catch on them, it never crossed my mind that could happen (would take some serious contortions!) and has not been a problem so far. If I must complain about something, I'd agree that Altra needs to be more generous with the laces. As with earlier model Lone Peak hikers, they are simply too short and I do have to wrangle to double-tie them, which I consider a must in any hiking footwear. This is an easy fix for Altra. All in all, I've worn them lots, love the boots and have no problem recommending them. I consider these boots winners.

I bought these boots for Himalayan trekking. I wore them for running and walking for about a month in advance of the 5 day trek. The boots performed very well on the trek, and I'm really happy that I bought them. Alot of the terrainwas incredibly steep. I'm sorry that some reviewers complain that there is a seam somewhere that has rubbed on their ankles. I don't wear my boots too tight, which may have made the difference, as fitters often tell you to lace them up tight around your ankles which doesn't work for me. I laced them up securely but not tight. I also think that if you're buying expensive hiking boots, you need to have an expert or trained fitter, or know what you're doing as hiking boots need to fit differently from street shoes or running shoes.
