These shoes cost way to much to fall apart after only 1 month. The soul is falling off.

I had ordered the wide boot and was sent a normal width. I tried to exchange it but the sight kept coming up with the normal width. I really want to give these shoes a try but they need to be comfortable.

I bought these as trail running shoes and have used them for a couple weeks, they feel great but the foam on the bottom is already torn. For a shoe that costs so much, you would think its more durable when it comes to gravel and the occasional rock or root in the ground. Unfortunately these shoes don't seem like they will last. Im very disappointed as this was my first big purchase in the world of trail running shoes.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)

The shoes are great overall. I initially bought a pair in my usual size, tried them in a short hike. They ran larger than expected. I decided to go half a size down, and that fit perfectly—so I kept them. Performance-wise, they’re solid and comfortable for trail runs.
However, I had a frustrating experience with Hoka’s return process. They advertise a "Fly for 30" guarantee, allowing customers to test their shoes and apparel for 30 days. If not completely satisfied, items can be returned within this period for a full refund or exchange, even if they've been worn. Following this, I tried to return the first pair, hoping to get store credit. Instead, they sent the shoes back to me and didn’t honor the return policy as stated.

Not for me, fit but no speed laces you have to unlace a lot to get them on or off. Very uncomfortable to wear. I returned them.

been a long time hoka user. have run in the speed goats before. loved that shoe so i ordered the mid in the same size i had the shoe in. couldn't get my foot in the shoe. was so narrow in the toe box it felt more like a climbing shoe than a running shoe. dont expect this to fit the same as the shoe, if you do, you will be disappointed.

Caused me to get tendinitis in my achilles after the first day of wearing them thought it may have been the surfaces I was walking on. Tested
Different surfaces 3 different days and still after
8 hours of wearing them was almost dropping to the grown in pain.

The toe box on these shoes cause more foot pain than with any other shoe I have purchased through Hoka.

I ordered these in my correct size and they were way too tight. I called and , as directed by the representative, ordered a half size up. This was absolutely not the right answer. Longer but still extremely narrow.

In less than six months already have hole in side of shoe. The other day had a stick puncture the bottom. Now as far as comfort they are great. I walk all day for my job. Would think after paying so much they would last more than six months. Not sure if want to pay the big price if durability is not there. This was suppose to be like a trail shoe or hiking shoe. Can't see that since I just walk in city neighborhoods!

Update on last comment.
I know Hoka will make this right, they always do.
I'm trading this Hoka for another Hoka and I continue to encourage people to buy the brand.
Regarding this specific boot.
I needed this boot more than the shoe I traded it in for.
After the last review, I tried one more hike wearing them, a simple woods 15 mile out-n-back and found another huge problem. There is no loop for the lace on the tongue and what's worse is, the tongue is ridiculously paper thin.
I think the affected area of the foot is called the
(muscle extensors), where your ankle and top of the foot come together, exactly where the laces are, well that tendon area will get raw on any type of long distance hikes.
I ended up finishing that hike not using the last three loops and folded the paper tongue down.
It's critical to do a shake down of any new shoe prior to a thru hike.

1: This is my 6th pair of HOKA, 1st and last Mid GTX.
2: Why a Mid GTX is not offered in a wide is an absolute mystery !
When you backpack in inclement weather, you need the GTX Mid and typically two pair of socks, so the typical Hoka narrow design is not functional, so this should be THE shoe offered in the wide. We are buying larger sizes to compensate, so please, C,mon designers we are waiting for this change.
3: Here is the big problem. This design has two large sewn seams that intersect directly over the outer ankle bones and you will painfully become familiar with them.
4: Likes: Hoka is a great shoe..
I like the basic black color and the Hoka ride. The Speedgoat low wide, is a fantastic shoe.
Thanks.

They fit tight. Usually get wide but that wasn't an option for this. Not my favorite hoka shoes. Definitely won't by another pair.

I've had these Speedgoat 5 Mid (hightop) for 45-60 days. In that time I've used them in a Spartan race, maybe 10 workouts preparing for the Spartan and some road runs/walks. There are some odd flaws with these shoes that surprised me, at this price point I was expecting better and would stay away if you are buying these to be rugged.
1. The shoe tongue is a disaster. The laces do not tie in or anchor the tongue and the tongue is not long enough so it barely gets over the laces when tied. What this means is that during a workout or a race the tongue creeps down below the laces, bunches up, or disappears to the lower laces. If Hoka was designing a rugged shoe for trail races or hikes, who would they not include a way to anchor the tongue. Major oversight.
2. For a "tough shoe" the back sole started to separate. The black sole where it meets the heal of my Speedgoat started to pull away on both shoes revealing the foam after one Spartan. Again, for $180+ that's not what I was expecting. I figured these would go through at least 3 races and all the training to get there. As it stands though I've got some separation of the sole after maybe a combined 50 miles.
3. Customer service is ambiguous. They told me to use the warranty. I said ok but when I go to do it on the website there's no place to write what's wrong w the shoe and there's a line that says "if your return is accepted" what's the mean, I'm going to send my shoe back, not have them for months and the races I bought them for, only to get an email that my shoes are being returned as is as the warranty complaint was not accepted?
I'd steer clear especially at this price point.

It just flat out is uncomfortable and hurt my feet and ankles, even after trying several different lacing methods. It's sad, because I wanted them to work and use them for light mountain hiking/back packing but they just aren't comfortable or compatible with me and my feet. The ride was good, but the ankle support just won't work for me. They bind way to much and rubbed my ankle raw on an 8 mile hike

After trying a 9 and a 9.5 they where to tight in the ball of the foot area .was looking for a wider shoe but I guess Hoka doesn't make them wider .

They are comfortable but they feel like they make my feet turn in when I walk. Other hikes don't make me feel this way. Not sure if they are the right shoes for me

I wore out the soles of my speedgoat 4 high tops after 250 fun miles including a few grand canyon trips so I decided to give these a try. My first 2 mile break in hike went ok but the tongue of the shoe would not stay up so the laces were touching my leg instead of the tongue, this was not fun. The switch to goretex exterior also made my feet quite a bit warmer. I decided to stick it out and went on a 15 mile hike and it was pretty bad. The shoes were too warm, the tongue rode down on me big time and the bottoms of both feet hurt quite a bit. I had never experienced this pain on any other shoe so I returned them. I am disappointed in every aspect of this model. The previous generation was far better. At least Hoka let me exchange them for free and hopefully the anacapa breeze will be better.

I have been wearing Hoka before most of folks knew about this shoe and this has been my first return ever. The shoe hurt my feet, ever Hoka I have ever worn has always been comfortable even not broke in. Will never buy this one again.
