I was pleasantly surprised how warm and comfortable this coat is while light weight and less bulky than my previous coat. Excellent choice!

I ordered this coat for its ratings in cold weather, rain/snow, and pack-ability. My first use was this past weekend at a football game - very cold and snowing. My body was never cold or wet (although my legs and feet were). The coat can be rolled into a small ball and put in a bag for travel. Perfect for me! Regarding size, I first ordered an XL but found it to be too small with layers. The XXL was just right for me. I have very broad shoulders. Great job on this one!

This is the perfect coat for any man wearing a sport or suit jacket. It is insulated, lightweight, waterproof and long enough to cover the entire jacket. The pockets are perfectly designed and complete with waterproof zippers. There are two flap pockets for gloves and two outside lower slash pockets to keep your hands warm. There are two outside waterproof zippered pocket for a cell phone or wallet and an inside zippered pocket that will hold an iPad. This is also the pocket into which you can stow the entire coat for traveling. I have owned several long LL bean down coats, specializing in warmth with lots of bulk and none of the pocket features of this coat. They all will be replaced with this warm, lightweight, packable waterproof coat.

Fits well, not bulky and comfortable. The jacket is nice and warm that dried quickly after getting wet in a downpour.

Light, soft warm and comfy. Definitely waterproof. Had it out in the rain today. I wouldn't use this for anything active or sporting. Not for skiing or brushing up against trees or brush. The hood won't fit over a helmet. Perfect commuter type coat. That this coat packs away is remarkable. Great item. I wish it had an inside pocket at the chest. It does have two external chest pockets though.

I wish it had snaps rather than velcro closures. It's plenty warm for getting back and forth to the car, but not heavy enough for extended time outside. I have ro wear a ball cap to keep the hood out of my eyes.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
The large size fit me perfectly (I'm 5'11", 196 pounds), and I like the coat a lot. However, I'm returning it, as it is thin, and I'm concerned that it will not be warm enough on very cold days.

I like the concept of the coat, but when they say, "slightly fitted" they mean "slim fit", really slim fit! Not nearly like the many other size large coats I have bought from Bean. This one is MUCH tighter. Manageable with a shirt and tie but I could never wear a heavy sweater under this coat. Disappointed.

If your a xxl this jacket may be a little tight. You will not be able to fit a thick sweater underneath it. The jacket is warm.

Could be slightly more generous size wise. Do not need so many pockets.

This coat is fantastic, it just was not right for me for a couple reasons, the main on being that I was looking for a heavy duty parka and didn't realize that until I got this jacket. I ended up switching to the Maine mountain parka which I love. This jacket is unbeatable for warmth to weight ratio. I almost couldn't believe it how warm it was because of how light it is. The only other thing I don't like about it is the pocket placement and the lack of insulated pockets. I was really looking for something heavy duty for long walks to work in single digit temperatures tho so otherwise would highly recommend!

Comfortable, warm, good fit. Only issue: zipper is a bit hard to engage.

I purchased this coat last year at my local LL Bean in Skokie IL. I instantly fell in love with the design, the feel, the look. I did get a chance to test it on a few cold days in Chicago. We get a lot of harsh winds and it seemed to hold up decently well, however, if you are NOT layered well, you will feel that cold blow against you. A good test of this coat was when I took it downtown to the Kriskindle Market in December. It held up fairly well, again, without proper layering, you are going to feel the cold. For the most part, I was satisfied with how well it conformed to my body and how it stretches to allow better movement. The water repellence of this coat is subpar, water does bead off the coat, but if you get in the rain, the rain will start to slowly saturate the fabric. Overall, is this a good coat to have? Sure, but depending on WHAT activities you are doing will really dictate your satisfaction. There are other great coats out there, but I think I will keep this one just because it so different from the traditional winter coat.

This coat at first appears to be a lightly insulated raincoat, but it is surprisingly warm given its weight. I put on a 28 oz woolen vest and a woolen sports jacket and walked for fifteen minutes when the temperature was 20 degrees and there was a 15 mph wind and was comfortable, but a ten-degree windchill is probably the limit for me. I don't believe I would feel as comfortable wearing this coat in the single digits even with strenuous activity. For that I have a puffy old storm coat. I'm afraid the description "just-above-knee length" is inaccurate. I'm 5'9" and the coat rests eight inches above my patella. Although my torso was warm when I tried out this coat, my legs were cold in jeans. The pockets are not insulated either, so you'll probably need to wear gloves in cold weather. I would prefer interior pockets that offer greater protection for my phone. I like the sleek, uncluttered look of this coat and will wear it in the 20-50 degree range depending on the windchill. Below that, I'll wear a heavier, longer coat. LL Bean's shipping and handling were very prompt.

I have used this in the early Fall in New England. It keeps me warm and is quite waterproof. Its an excellent purchase. The hood seems to work well but I have not used it too much. Big, ample pockets that are well placed for use. As a design note, I would actually prefer it was a bit longer (knee length) and came in more than one color.

Not my first LLBean Coat. I like that it repels rain, is extremely lite an fits well but dissapointed in the warmth it provides. It lacks the insulation required for temps below high forty degree NYC temps. I wound up buying a different brand. For winter days. Kept this for the above 40 degree days rather than send it back.

It is very thin, and my husband thought it would not be warm enough . Haven't tested it in extreme cold yet.

Am truly medium size with 40" chest. Thus after consultation with LL Bean by phone ordered Medium size. It was much too small so returned it for large size. Could not believe possible that large size was also was a tght and thus too small. Fabric looks great, is certainly very light-weight. First time have ever been disappointed with LL Bean.

LLBean rates this coat to +15 F. Not even close. Maybe it will keep you warm at 40 F, but much below that you will need a mid-layer, like a down sweater. I like the fit and the way it looks, but the polyester fill needs to be improved.

I received this as an Xmas gift and will be returning it. It may be suitable if you layer up, butthe description said "warmest" and I don't want to layer up if it's 36 degrees and cloudy. The pockets for your hands (not storage) have zippers which is ok if you're wearing gloves, but uncomfortable if not. The main zipper is too low for easy engagement. The hood is similarly too thin for warmth (like the pockets). Did not rate the waterproof ability, but others suggest it bears improvement. I wanted to like this, but it simply misses the mark (at any price). LL Bean is known for its quality, but this coat is a "neither, nor". Will try to find something warmer, with a better design in exchange.

Seems to be cheaper quality than the one I had from LL Bean for last 18 years. Also, it is not as long as the other one. The length was important if you were standing on a "commuter" railroad station platform in the morning. My family is giving this to me for XMas because the other simply was wearing out. Have not totally tested it but this request for review came up.

Finally a jacket that covers a blazer/ jacket and is thin / light - kudos - bummer is zipper is broken 2 months after purchase and no replacement available (size or color). Please bring this back in black and all the sizes!

Fully disappointed in this "coat." This is the first truly misinterpreted article of clothing I've ever purchased from Bean. First, the length is barely 3/4 length; some Bean Parkas are nearly this long. I have a Bean full coat that nearly reaches my ankle - I'm 6 feet tall. Secondly, this coat lacks in warmth; I guess it has the "warmest" rating due to its supposed length coverage. Maybe it'd work if you really wanted a "packable" rain coat with more heft than just a shell, but the Maine Mountain coat is what you want if you want lengthy "warmEST" coverage and waterproof.
