I am a huge fan of the Skechers Razor 3 and ever since my first pair years ago, I said they needed to make a trail version. After much anticipation, the Skechers Razor TRL is here and does not disappoint. The Hyperburst midsole is the most responsive I have run on. It provides great cushion while not being marshmallow'y - softer then Brooks DNA Flash but firmer than Nike ZoomX - with better energy return. And they are light! The uppers are minimal as you would expect but a little bit of padding exists on the tongue (not much but more than the Razor road). I have low volume, nearly flat feet and have no issues snugging them down for a near glove like fit. Out of the box they may be a hair more narrow than the Razor 3 but after a few miles (ultimately 20 on the first run) I had zero concerns about the width. The outsole may not be the best for very muddy or wet conditions due to the smaller lugs. I think all outsoles suck in mud and wet terrain except for those on La Sportivas (even though I haven't been impressed with a release since the Mutants and Bushido IIs) but already I think the Skechers' Goodyear rubber will be grippier/tackier than what I've seen from Salomon/Arc'teryx and other major players out there. Of note, there is not a rock plate and although there is an overlay at the toe labeled "toe protect" these are not reinforced shoes. That wouldn't dissuade me from running anywhere in them but it may for those in very rocky regions. I couldn't be more pleased as I have been debating on which shoes to use for my R2R2R run in the Fall...decision made.

Good cushion, looks, and traction. A little narrow in the forefoot but not bad as the upper has a bit of flex. Perfect lightweight alternative to Speedgoats

FirstI have VERY narrow feet and these trail running shoes actually fit me. Thank you Sketchers for making a narrow shoe!!! I run rugged mountain bike trails, which includes step rocks over small streams, many exposed roots and rocks to avoid, and slippery/muddy conditions. I have about eight 4-5 mile runs (mostly muddy) and never felt more secure. My toes were protected the few times I stubbed/tripped on exposed roots. So far I am thrilled with them. I don't plan on wearing them other than runningI just wish the color selection was not so bright ;)can't miss me running through the woods!

This shoe is very similar to my old Sketcher's GoTrail Ultra 3. Not in appearance but in the way it feels. The sole has a high arch and the shoe "rocks". It's a very comfortable shoe right out of the box. I've also gotten several positive comments about the orange color.

I've run about sixty miles of trails in the GoRun Razor Trail. I want to love these shoes; however, there are just too many minor and not-so-minor issues. The biggest issue I have is with the lugs. They are fairly grippy, but they are thin, so thin that on many surfaceseven packed earththe shoe "wiggles" on the relatively tall lugs. That wiggle gives a sense of insecurity on rock, pavement, and even hard trail, not something that is comforting in a trail shoe. In addition, the space between the lugs is needless smooth. Perhaps a coarse texture would help. Strangely, the lugs in Sketchers Speed Trl shoe released a couple of years back are greatbut also thicker and, thus, stable. In addition, the Speed TRL has a little less of that smooth surface between the lugs. Other issues: the Speed Trl had fantastic lockdown, with the mid-foot tight and secure (I liked the burrito tongue), and the heel-lock system that really did keep the foot in the shoe (as well as some thoughtful touches like the neoprene collar to keep pine needles, dirt, and pebbles out of the shoe). Sadly, the best of the Trl didn't carry over to the Razor Trail, however. The Razor Trail feels like there's an extra quarter or half inch added to the toe length, yet it could benefit from a little width for the toes. That said, the shoes are generally comfortable, and the Hyperburst cushioning has bounce and offers protection; although, it does lack a rock plate. Still, the midsole isn't enough to rescue the shoe. The Razor Trail doesn't offer enough stability in this iteration for technical trails. Thickening the Goodyear lugs will go a long way to improving confidence in the shoe, as would carrying over some of the excellent lockdown features of Skechers' Speed Trl. Also, not to harp on the comparison of the two shoes too much, but the Trl upper drains fast. The Razor Trail stays wet a good deal further down the trail. Overall, I think the Razor Trail is a fine first draft, but I expect better stability and lockdown in the next version. The Hyperburst is a fun addition to a trail shoe (there wasn't enough of it in the Speed Trl), but it might overwhelm the rest of this shoe.

I was a big fan of the Skechers Ultra and Max Performance shoes, and I still have a few pairs of the Ultra R2. Also liked the Ultra Trail 3 and the Max Road until they went to the booty upper and this years even narrower Max Road 5. All these earlier shoes, road and trail models were wide in the forefoot with nice roomy toe boxes. This Razor TRL is beyond narrow! If anyone can even fit into it by mile 3, your feet should be going numb from the vise like squeeze. I wear a normal width in the shoes that I mentioned, so the Razor TRL is insanely narrow. What a pathetic attempt at a new trail shoe. So Skechers, is this what "giving the people what they want" means?
