At the recommendation of my Chiropractor I bought these Graftons to wear at work. I read earlier reviews and purchased a full size larger. I wear a 13 and purchased a 14. Perfect fit, immediately comfortable to wear. I stand on my feet all day on concrete and these have truly been a help. I recommend them to anyone who is on their feet all day.

I have worn a number of Altra shoes over the years and needed a new pair for winter. So far these are great. I wish they were waterproof, but I sprayed them with silicon so they should be good. By the way, we have mild winters here in SW Colorado. i'm not too sure how they might work for winter in Minnesota. Love the fit and zero drop aas always.

This is an excellent shoe for almost any situation. I just got back from a 4 day bikepacking trip on the Kokopelli with the fifth day climbing Tukuhnikivatz. This was the only shoe I brought on the trip. I also used them as my every day for the year leading up to this trip. When I say everyday I mean to work and mountain biking after work 4-5 times a week. I can't count how many times I've smashed rocks on the downhill and not only did they hold up but they protected my feet surprisingly well. The sole is a little torn up from my pedals but any other shoe I've had would have been trashed to shreds by now. The fact that they are insanely comfortable is just a huge bonus for me.

I have about a hundred miles on these shoes and they are holding up pretty well. They are a warm shoe so if your feet sweat a lot you may not like them. I am a solid 10 in most running and hiking shoes but could have easily gone to a 101/2 in these. Besides that great shoe.

I just unboxed the shoes, so haven't had enough time to wear them outside. But, noticed although I am a size 9.5 in the Escalante shoes, I am a size 10 in the Graftons. And, when I pulled the insoles out to compare them...the Escalante size 9.5 insole matches with the Grafton size 10 insole. So, if you're used to the Escalante's you may want to go a 0.5 size up from your Escalante size.

I never had this experience with shoes before. The most comfortable shoes I ever had. The wide toe box is unbelievable. It is very light and rolls very nice. I just want to wear it all the time. Perfect :) I hope it will last long.

After a decade of suffering, a pair of Lone Peak's changed my life. It's been all Altra since. The Graftons are stiffer at first, but have melted into the ultimate shoe for me. I'm a carpenter who does it all. These are amazing on the roof. Thank you Altra.

I bought these for hiking but they are so comfortable that I use them for work. I walk on concrete at my job and do at least 2 miles a day. These have been the best Altras for my feet/hips!
I have not had the quality issues others have mentioned in the reviews, I have happily been wearing my pair for almost a year.
I really hope they never "upgrade" the Grafton...too often changes make their shoes ugly and cheap. Please, Altra, never change the look or design!!

I have to wear leather shoes at work. I tried other shoes but they hurt my feet to no end. These are a godsend. I have them in two colors and plan on getting the third!

This shoe is a winner. I am a longtime Altra fan and early adopter of their running shoes (until hip replacement) and their everyday, casual shoes. I have very wide feet, especially in the toe box, and New Balance, while wide, wasn't helping my toe problems. Due to 20+ years of wearing combat boots on a daily basis (back when "one width fits all"... thanks Uncle Sam!), I developed problems whereby my big toe on each foot got pushed in towards the center. This led to my second toe (next to my big toe) getting pushed upward as the big toe tried to slide under it. Then a blister under the nail of the toe that was getting pushed up. Then, well, you get the picture. I needed a shoe with a wide toe box, and Altra came along and saved the day.
The reasons I like the Grafton:
1. It harkens back to one of Altra's earlier casual shoes... the Instinct Everyday. I loved that shoe and was sad when Altra discontinued it.
2. It is VERY comfortable. (Although I needed a Vasili insert for arch support)
3. It is super versatile! Great for walking, biking, hiking (except maybe 14'ers)... and looks good enough to wear to church.
I've read some reviews about its durability, especially the canvas that wraps around the heel. I'm not seeing any problems, although I've only put about 35 miles of hiking on them so far. I'm buying another pair without waiting for the first pair to wear out.
My compliments to the designers!

Great approach shoe. Ive had them 6 months and used them most everyday from scrambles to just a kick around shoe. They are durable and comfortable. Thanks altra for making shoes in a size 15 please continue to do so.

Ordered these for a trip to Iceland, but didn't bring 'em 'cause dumb me didn't realize they aren't waterproof. I was tempted to return them, but they're just so darned comfortable I wear them almost all the time. The mid is firm enough to wear walking comfortably all day long, and the long row of laces gives a snug fit for the whole foot. They've been overly warm at times, so I don't think these are going to be very popular come Spring and Summer :-/
I didn't think I'd be happier with a pair of shoes more so than the Cayds, but these are even better.

Haven't been this wmexcited about and approach shoe since my first pair of "Sticky Weekend's" in 1996. Solid capable piece of gear that lends itself more to a run pace than others

Fit and size were predictable Altra. The shoe is sneaky. It looks a bit heavier than it is but its incredibly light on the foot. The shoe has cushioning but is not squishy. There seems to be more cushioning than the stack height would imply. Its a sneaky shoe, lighter than it looks, and more cushioning than it would seem a shoe like this would have. I smile every time I put it on.

I ordered these online and they arrived today. Right out of the box they feel great. I wear a 12 1/2 in most other shoes but always buy my Altra shoes in a 13. I have the Paradigm 4.5 for everyday exercise walking, the Cayds for casual shoes, and they were both so comfortable I thought I would give the Grafton a try.
The stack height is lower than the other two shoes but still feels both supportive and cushioned enough to be comfortable. Some people say they are too narrow but I think they are a nice snug and comfortable fit that secure my feet very well. The upper is a combination of nice soft suede and canvas. I really like the overall feel of the shoe.
My main form of exercise is walking. I have experienced planer fasciitis in both feet in the past and since switching to and alternating between my Hoka One One and the Altra shoes the problem went away very quickly. I prefer the Altra shoes because of the large toebox. The Hoka nad more cushion due to the enormous stack height but I find the Altra my shoe of preference.
The only quirk I found with the Grafton is that right out of the box the shoes really squeak a lot with each step on smooth surfaces. After a short period of time, the sole seems to rough up enough that the squeaking goes away pretty quickly. I really look forward to getting a pair of Wahweap shoes after the winter when it warms up again.

I ordered these in a half size larger and the fit is perfect (I go up one full size in Altra running shoes). Other reviewers have commented that they find the shoe too narrow but I found a better fit for hiking with the slightly less width (my feet slide around too much in the Superiors), I have used these on a variety of trails and conditions hiking on the AT in different states. Fantastic grip for wet conditions, rock scrambling, river crossings, and mountain treks. They are comfortable and protect my feet. Well done, Altra!

I bought this shoe for light hiking, and it fits the bill. When on well worn paths and trails, it's exceptionally comfortable and appropriately flexible.
I do take it out on rocky sections of the AT, where it is fine for quick hikes of, say, 5 miles. Fine for scrambling on rocks, too. However, the heel stability is lacking for the longer stretches of our wonderful Pennsylvania rocks. Not terrible, just a sort of annoying slosh and a consciousness that it's a low shoe in this situation.
That being said, I got these shoes immediately before 3 full days of hiking at Mount Rainier and the PCT and they were wonderful on those luxurious, civilized, humus-rich paths. No break in, no foot pain!
So comfortable for biking, driving, grocery shopping.
I have very narrow feet (though still feel cramped in most traditionally shaped shoes), and these feel nicely and approprialy wide in the toe. I normally wear size 7.5, but I decided to go with an 8 in this shoe, and I'm not sorry.

I'm 6'2, 220#, size 13, and Altra's Lone Peaks helped me heal from plantar fasciitis. They have been my daily shoes for the past few years. My feet run wide, and the big toe box and minimal heel lift are perfect for me. So, the Graftons were a great surprise, and have served well for travel and casual wear. And they look like Marvin the Martian's shoes, so I've got that going for me.

So far I am using my new Graftons as an everyday shoe. I am totally in love with them. I've been wearing Altras almost since they first came out. I've discovered that both my feet and my back are so much happier with a zero-drop shoe and a wide toe box. No other brand works for me. Having said all of this, I've been so disappointed that for the last several years Altra has not made available a leather shoe for women.....only for men. Especially in the winter I need a warmer shoe. I find the Grafton to be extremely well-padded and comfortable. I ended up buying a full size larger than my normal size. Usually, in Altras, I need only a half size larger. Thank you Altra for a great women's leather shoe! I'm looking forward to the day when you also have a very slightly dressy shoe in leather for women.....like you do for men.

I really like these Grafton's ( but they could be more anatomically shaped- to the human foot form ) I wear them without the insert to get just a "tad-more space" I had to {Color~dye them rust~brown color} for my uniform standards. I'm giving them a 5+ because there is no other shoe company that will make anything close to these ( zero elevation in the Heel with toe space ) What would be nice if they gave it a generous toebox but the TIMP and make it ankle height like the lone Peak med. Both of the shoes in the images are 12-1/2 they're very nic-very good just not! wide~enough particularly in the forefoot area, ( I had to take the inserts out also ) I understand everyone has different feet so I just have to Micro adjust , them . So I hope this Altra company continue to make more of these type of footwear I have about 27 pair of Altra's. Peace .

I love Altras. They are pretty much the only shoes I wear. I currently have several pairs of Escalante, a pair of Timp, and a pair of Cayd. I just ordered and received a pair of the Grafton. I have wide feet (11 4E), so it's a hit or miss experiment when I try on a new Altra style. As with my other Altras, I ordered size 12.5. How did they fit? Perfectly. I tried them on as soon as I received them, and haven't taken them off since. They were wide enough for me right out of the box, with plenty of room in the toe box. Heels are a tad loose, but perfectly fine. Granted, it's the first day, but leather shoes that don't require a break-in period are pretty rare.
They feel a bit like the Escalante. The Vibram soles were an unexpected surprise, and it seems that they'll be perfectly grippy enough for me with a mix of both road and trail hiking. They don't have the distinctive duck foot look that my other Altra shoes exhibit. It almost looks like I have normal feet now.
The bottom line: I'm really happy with this purchase, and I'll be wearing these shoes throughout an upcoming trip to Switzerland and Italy.

I've had many pairs of Altras and other more minimal shoes, but none of them were laterally supportive enough or had enough grip or maybe were made mostly of mesh. This meant my feet would get soaked on early morning walks or it made biking around ton somewhat difficult. The Grafton are excellent flats for biking (commuter/mountain), have grip and solid panels for early morning trail walks with the dogs, comfy enough to wear around town and stiff yet grippy and enough to make a half decent driving shoes too
