I so wanted these to fit well. I measure a 12 exactly on the brannock device, but usually have to go with a full size larger for Nike and Adidas. I went with the Zappos automated recomendation (actually it said to get 11.5, but I got the 12). They're just a hair too small and are bugging my big toe. I hope these come back in stock - love the color, but guess I need to size up to a 13.

The pad inside the shoes was thin and flat but I had planned on buying gel inserts so that is OK for me.

Nice shoes but the 2E width was too tight. My old New Balance 2E width fit perfect. Had to return these and order wider ones. Customer service is excellent and return/reordering was easy.

These seem well made, but they run a bit small and a bit narrow. The leather is rather stiff. I haven't actually worn them much yet, so I can't give you much other information.

Requiring a wide width severely narrows (pun intended) shoe choices. New Balance has a great variety of style and colors, and I do like these shoes, even though I returned them. I ordered EE which were not wide enough. I even did a side by side with two other pairs of sneakers for comfort and fit comparison. Additionally, the "574" label area feels as if there is crumpled paper inside. It is very noisy and presses against your foot (yes, I took the paper insert out).
I feel bad returning these, mostly because Zappos is the only retailer to take things back without return shipping or restocking fees. I will be ordering SAS shoes directly from the manufacturer because Zappos (nor any other on-line retailer) carries the color I want.
I'd also recommend:

After wearing 950v5 which was great and comfy I decided to try classics. Since 950 was a bit loose I went with .5 less size. And they turned out to be so tight that I cannot wear them.
And they feel so cheap. It is understandable considering the price. But I would pay more and not get that "cheapo" feeling.

I've been a New Balance customer for a couple of decades. They're my go to casual/athletic shoe company. I've been a size 9.5 forever. While I love the look of the 574, I can barely squeeze my foot in. The heal is sloped toward the toes more than any other shoe I've owned, forcing my foot into the toe box. The toe box gives me no room to move. Unfortunately, they're going back.

The shoes do not have enough cushion in the bottom. I will buy cushioned inserts to make them more comfortable. I've been wearing the NB 990 series for years , and I expected these to be like them. I'm a little disappointed.

Got these for some comfortable shoes but they're too narrow. Wish I'd tried these on first. Oh well

Shoes were extremely comfortable and would be 5 stars, but the color in the photo online was a bit misleading. These were sold as "burgandy" and I was hoping for a dark red color (like the photo online), but when I received them, these were purple or maybe plum. I couldn't keep them. I wound up finding a pair of 373 V2 sneakers in the red color I wanted and bought them to replace the 574s, and I LOVE the new shoes. If you like plum, then get the burgandy 574s.

New Balance changed the tongue of the shoe and it is now thinner than previous versions. I imagine this is a cost-saving move, because why change something that isn't broke? Still looks great, but the feel isn't the same.

My New Balance running shoe is a EE width which fits fine. The EE of this shoe is too narrow for me. Evidently the width on one New Balance does not translate to another style. I returned this shoe and ordered one in 4E. I hope this works.

Great looking shoes, however, one needs to remember that NB's "Classic" shoe line comes with the lack of comfort that you would normally get with more modern shoes.

Pretty good shoe for walking around.
But if you are a runner, get a wide. Cause they are very narrow'ish. Other than that, they good....

I wear SMO orthotics on a daily basis and someone recommended New Balance as a lightweight, wider-width alternative to the skate sneakers I had been wearing so I'm trying them out. I really like how stylish and lightweight these are, they look good and are easy to get on and off over my bulky plastic orthotics.
My one gripe so far is that the soles feel a little soft, I'm prone to rolling my ankles and I don't feel as supported as I have with other shoes. I will try ordering my next pair in a wide width instead of a medium to see if that helps the issue. I've also noticed that the soles aren't very grippy when wet. We've have quite a bit of rain recently and I've almost slipped several times on wet city sidewalks, especially when walking over subway grates or manhole covers. This is a concern and I've had to be much more careful of where I'm walking when the ground is wet!
Overall I am cautiously happy with these shoes. I've had some issues but they may come down to sizing and I hope my next pair will feel even more comfortable.

It's been a long process. I have an old pair of New Balance Classics in 10EE. I ordered and returned a new pair ,10EE that were too narrow. I then ordered the Propet Stability Walker in 10EEE; again too narrow and caused blisters. After contacting customer service I was advised to try Drew 10.5 EEEE. I am having to return them as too narrow. I have ordered Drew 10.5 EEEEEE and hope they will fit. The Drew is a well made shoe. The Propet was well made. I also ordered Nunn Bush Chelsea Boot in 10 W with my first order. They are good quality and fit fine.
I'd also recommend:

I usually take a 12 wide but my toe was too tight to the edge. I could have used a 12.5. These must run small

I didn't like how narrow the sole on the shoe was, I think a running shoe is much better as you would get a wider better overall sole and better shock absorption, I would not purchase this should again, Especially for 80.00 dollars, I think it is a bit over priced for what you get !

I have been wearing 993's USA made 10-1/2 2E and find them great, but I wanted to try a wider 4E width so decided to order these 574's in 10-1/2 4E (extra wide). Compared to the 993's the width feels very little wider that the 2E's, the shoe length is significanly shorter, the tongue is thin, unpadded, flimsy feeling, and the heel slips on my feet - none of my other NB's have ever had a slipping heel. In summary not at all what I expect from NB. Bring back the 993's!!!!!!!!

Not what 574 used to be. Quality down, comfort way way down. They managed to make a shoe that is cramped and sloppy feeling at the same time. Add new balance to the timberland category. Took a proven winner and ruined it.
