For years, these were my favorite low boots. As I my feet got wider, I would buy a new pair in a wider width (from a B to D). I now have arthritis in my feet as well as bursitis in the small toe of my left foot and needed to order these in a 4E width. After ordering and trying on 3 pairs of these boots (because the width on each of them, although marked a 4E, was different), I wound up returning all of them because they were no longer as comfortable as they used to be even though I was removing the insoles and putting in an orthotic instead. Toe Warmers makes an identical boot (the Trek) to the Propet Madi and I feel the material and overall comfort of the Toe Warmers brand to be more suited to my sensitive feet. Unfortunately, Zappos does not carry that brand.

I bought the original Madison ankle boots
in 2016. I love them. Warm, stylish comfortable from day one. Orthodic friendly. I reordered these now 2 years later and I feel they are not as good. I returned them. I wear size 7 medium. The differences are in the toe end. While
there is plenty of room the shape in front is more rounded and the tip of the shoe is hard not soft like original. It reminded
me of a workman's shoe with a steel tip. My ankle kept sliding up and down when walking. The original covered the ankle but these are lower and did not cover as well. The traction tread is not as deep.
The treads go left to right. The original were deep and in a zig zag pattern for better traction. I dont think they are as stylish. I could only give them a 3. Wish they were the original.

I had to go a full size longer, but width was great, full sole underneath ww width. Toe box is so hard I thought they were steel toe, but not marked so in description or on box. No side zipper and they are hard to lace, but great comfort for wide foot.

They look great but are not as comfortable as I thought they would be. They are very large in the ankle area and it does not tighten well.

Stylish and warm, but I missed on the size. I wear a size 7 shoe and always have to order up a half size with boots, so I order these in size 7.5. In this case, though, even with super thick socks they’re still a little big. So no need to order a half size up with these.

This is the third pair of these that I have bought. This year the boot has changed, they are heavier, feel a little clunky, and are a little shorter, possibly due to the toe being turned up a bit. Normally I wear a 9W and can put a nice thick boot sock inside of that, this year I'm worried about the comfort, because they are shorter. I may have to go up to a nine and a half now to accommodate a heavy sock. Wish they would have left the design alone.

I really wanted to like these because I need a new pair of shoes for winter walking, especially with dogs. Sadly, these are not the shoes. I love Propet and have been buying their shoes for years. One of my favorites is the Snow Walker, which was discontinued. The Snow Walker was the perfect shoe for those of us who live where it gets bitter cold in winter - sturdy, warm, waterproof, good support, and ready to go on Day 1. I was hoping for the same with these, but they just didn’t measure up.
I ordered the same size as all my other Propet shoes (9W) and these were too short and too tight. They don’t come up as high on my ankle as I wanted for walking support. I also didn’t like the materials - the boots themselves are very light without the warmth I wanted. The collar is a weird, fuzzy material. It’s cute but worthless for walking dogs as the fabric is definitely a magnet for grass seed and burrs. I’m returning them and not sizing up. I’ll just stick with my old Snow Walkers for the time being. Just wish Propet would bring back that good, sturdy winter walking shoe that was the Snow Walker.

Tried to trust my true length because the option to get them very wide is comforting. If these weren't Propet, with the removable insole, the pinch on my bum foot would have been a bit too tight, though. However, the biggest annoyance is that they aren't warm. I wore them around the house to make sure I'd be keeping them, and my toes never warmed up in them, needed to get back to my slippers! Still, because I won't be wearing them long at a time, & only for snow, and because there really aren't any other choices, I will be keeping them. They are, in my opinion, plenty presentable, even sort of cute.
Do I recommend them? Yes, but only if your other options aren't more promising.

I love the shoe. I had to reorder in a larger size due to the width (I am a 6 very wide), and with woolen socks it is perfect. Only have them a week or so but so far a real fav in cold weather and good on long walks.

Light, very stable, as comfy as a sneaker. I wish there was no fuzzy trim around the ankle, when I Hike or go in the horse pasture, it pick up burdocks and other stickers

I got the 4E so that I could walk around Chicago with a thick pair of socks and know that my feet would stay nice and toasty warm! The fit is great, and I am amazed how lightweight these ankle boots are and I am looking forward to wearing them in cold weather! Thanks!

They seem super comfortable, I haven't been able to test them to see if they are waterproof.
They are pretty clown-like, remind me of skater shoes. However, I have a very large bunion, and they are ALMOST wide enough to accommodate. I got the widest they offer, but I still wish women's shoes would have wider options available, in actually cute shoes. Help a girl out with bunions!
Need bigger than 4xx

Ordered a size 6 for my mom-in-law, normal width. She had bunion surgery recently on one foot, but the foot without surgery still fit fine. She also has pain on the bottom of her foot, but loved this boot. She wore it out on two mild hiking trips and said the boot felt light yet supportive.

I was looking for a walking boot for a trip to Prague in December 2019. I was concerned about finding something that worked with a painful bunion plus thicker wool socks. These were perfect. Kept my feet warm and comfortable during all of the walking we did. No slipping on cobblestones. Plus they are relatively light weight so go great in luggage.

So happy with Propet Madi Boot. I like the color, the way they look and feel great. I ordered size 7 m first. They fit but no room for socks. I ordered an 8 m and they are just right. Will be great in wet weather and cold. Very glad I bought them.

I usually wear a 8.5 narrow shoe but these seem to be a little short, I do wear a AA narrow and these are just the right width in the narrow sizing.

I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THESE BOOTS WHEN THEY ARRIVED, BOTH THE LOOKS AND THE FIT. I TRIED THEM ON AND THEY FELT SO GOOD THAT I WORE THEM INDOORS FOR HOURS BEFORE I REALIZED I STILL HAD THEM ON. I HAVE A VERY WIDE FOOT ALONG WITH A HIGH INSTEP, BUT THIS BOOT WAS NO PROBLEM FOR EITHER CONDITION. DUE TO THE LACES I'M ABLE TO ADJUST THEM PROPERLY. THE ONLY THING I FOUND IS THAT WHEN CLOSED I DON'T LIKE HOW WIDE THE SPACE IS AT THE TOP OF THE LACES. IT DOES MAKE MY FOOT LOOK WIDER THAN IT ALREADY IS. HOWEVER, THE POSITIVES FAR OUTWEIGH THE NEGATIVES, AND I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THEM AGAIN.

I previously reviewed this boot and completely forgot to mention the sizing. So here goes. Due to illness I have lost 70 lbs which means some of that was in my shoe size. I always wore 9 4x for years and sometimes they weren't even wide enough. This time I ordered a 1/2 size larger because it was a boot and would accommodate a heavier sock, plus I cut back the width from a 4x to a 2x. Must have been a lucky decision because these boots feel like they were already broken in as soon as I wore them for the first time. It's nice looking and the laces are easily adjustable for a nice fit.

When the boots came I wore them around the house for about 5 hours, and I totally forgot I had them on. They really felt good. However, I did start feeling discomfort in my back, not in my feet. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the top at the ankle is a little too short in length for my larger legs. But it's not enough to worry about. I really like the addition of Scotchguard to the product which will certainly be welcome in our cold, snowy and/or slushy winters. So far, I really love the boot.

I have a hard time finding shoes wide enough. I have a wide forefoot. These shoes look nice and are very comfortably made, but I felt it was a little too tight. I have been lucky with 2 other Propet styles, so I keep trying.

For a number of years, Propet carried an ankle boot called Snow Walker which was perfect for winter - warm, waterproof, excellent walking support, and well-constructed. Over the time they were carrying it, I went through 4 pairs of these boots and still have an old pair that I use for working in the yard. But, it was time for a new winter ankle boot for wearing everywhere but the yard. These are the closest thing Propet has to replace their Snow Walker. The Madi is okay, but not a boot I'd do handsprings over like the Snow Walker. I needed a black shoe for the cold months that is warm and is not a running shoe. For appearance, they're great - look nice, maintain their appearance, and don't have a clunky look to them so I can wear them as daily shoes with pants instead of black running shoes. I agree with other reviewers that the lacing system is terrible. There are three standard eyelet holes and then two quick-lace type of holes at the top of the boot. The quick-lace are anything but. They are solid and have a hole in them that is too small for pretty much any type of lace other than a man's dress shoe lace. It is difficult to pull the laces through when lacing up and I can tell that the holes will fray these laces over time. I've tried several different types of laces but the only ones that will stay reliably tied are also a tough fit. If this was a foldover type of quick-lace, I could at least get a tool under the end to pry the opening a little larger, but this is solid - no changing the size of the hole short of drilling. I have wide feet with a very high, long instep and a heel that runs narrow. I ended up sticking with Wide over X-Wide. The toebox on the X-Wide was more comfortable, but the heel on the X-Wide was way too loose. The heel is loose on the Wide as well. My heel still lifts up but doesn't come out of the boot like it did with the X-Wide. My biggest issue is the construction of any type of wide shoe. The footbed is wider (although could use more room over the top of the toebox), but there is no extra material added to the sides of the shoe itself that enable it to come up and over a foot, especially one with a high arch. As a result, the lace holes just barely clear the edges of the tongue. For a winter boot, this can be a problem for walking when it's wet or snowy. Arch support is not great. I took out the insole that came with the boot and replaced it with Spencos and that fixed that. It's been tough finding a good ankle boot for winter. I decided to stick with Propet's Madi because of the Propet comfort out of the box and durability. These will do. I'll keep hoping, though, that Propet brings back the Snow Walker. If they do, I'm stocking up with 3 pairs for sure.
Pros: Appearance and warmth
Cons: Lacing system frays laces; loose in the heel; sole is ridged but soft and gummy so good for walking on pavement not for hiking off pavement

This is the second time I purchased this shoe. I wore them all winter last year and I worried that they were beginning to wear out, so I bought another pair. First -- they still are comfortable, but they had been waterproof and these leak. Second, the first pair still has the original shoelaces, but I've already gone through two pairs of laces because the top eyelets are too small for the laces and they are getting shredded by the eyelets. I didn't notice this until I'd worn them for months, so it's too late to get a return on them.

I ordered a 9W like I have for the past 3 times I've ordered these. They were too cramped in the toe. Returned them. I ordered a half size up and these feel like my toes are being pushed down, VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I am returning them as well. These were my favorite booties for winter. Now they are no longer worth buying. The are heavier, feel clunky and the "steel toe" feeling pressing down on my toes sucks. Too bad a grest design was ruined....
