This is my second pair of Torrents; first pair lasted about 400 hard miles before the uppers were starting to show some wear and splitting. The tread still has life, although after throwing on the new pair, I could tell the foam had given up its cushioning in the old pair. The Torrents work well for me and better than any other Hoka. I would say these are a non-Hoka Hoka; i.e. they are not as cushy as other Hokas. I don't like overly cushioned shoes – they make my feet sore since they squish around a lot in the marshmallow foam. The Torrents don't do this. I've run both 50K and 50M races in these and my feet felt great. No hot spots, no blisters. They dry pretty quick after creek crossings and the tread is super grippy on rock, mud, and sand. I feel that they breathe well too. Only detraction is if you happen to do any scrambling on your trail runs, the uppers are not the most durable if getting rubbed on sharp rocks (but they're not really meant for that).

I just had to comment on the individual who commented on the hoka being too narrow, but he didn't even bother to try it on? seriously.

This shoe fit perfectly! Ran 8 miles on muddy trails today and they performed much better than expected. Perfect amount of grip, and I like the "Responsive" performance vs the overly cushiness of some other models. I'd recommend these and purchase again

My current go to distance (15-30 mile) trail shoe is the SpeedGoat 2. This has the makings of a slightly less bulky alternative. The outsole and foam are nice and stiff. The uppers are light and not bulky. The toe box is adequately wide.

This is my first pair of Hoka's, but the brand came highly recommended for both comfort and support. I am not a runner, but was looking for a comfortable shoe for trail walking and light hiking. I tried on a number of styles in a running store, but most felt a bit narrow for my foot. After some research I found the Torrent, which has a wider toe box so I thought I would give them a try. Once you get past the somewhat odd look for the fat midsole, they are not bad looking shoes. The Torrent fits my foot really well and there is a very nice cushioning feel to the shoe. They are very light and the have good ventilation. I typically where a 12 and the Hoka size 12 was a perfect fit. I am very pleased with the Torrent meets my needs well. Cannot comment on it from a runners POV, but if you are looking for a shoe you can walk and hike in all day in comfort, I highly recommend the Torrent.

Ran 8+ miles right off the box. Pretty good. A little firm but I'm very sure it will be flexible once it's broken in. Quite happy with arch support; have fairly high arch. Enough room in toe area without being boxy. The sole has a lot of bounce and plenty of grip on the road even if wet. Very similar to Columbia/Montrail Caldorado with Fluidfoam; still a fan of this also. This my 1st HOO. I would definitely buy this again.

I tried a few trail running shoes (Hoka, Altra, Scarpa, New Balance) in an attempt to use them as a hiking shoe over getting another more traditional hiking boot. The Hoka were definitely the most comfortable of the 4 brands I tried and would recommend them to anyone wanting them for trail running (or possibly hiking). I just didn't feel confident enough in them to give up on a hiking boot and for the same cost as most hiking boots, I was also not convinced of the longevity/price relationship.

The toe box is definitely way roomier than previous HOKA models. Super comfortable shoe and like the promotional video for this shoe from HOKA says, this shoe is meant to go fast!! Rides fast on flats, ups and downs. The grip on the midsole, for not being VIBRAM, it’s still extremely sticky and grippy for those steep, technical, rooty, rocky descents!! Ran a 50 mile mountain race on these bad boys and felt amazing, finished 10th overall and 1st in age group out of about 300 entrants. Scoop these up ASAP.

Waited several months to review these. I'm an avid trail runner who lives in Sedona, AZ. In a normal week I'll clock 20 miles. Total, I've logged about 150 miles on these shoes. The Cons: The toe box has stretched quite a bit. Lugs are pretty tore up, about 25% have ripped off. Toe kick is separating from the top of the toe box where it's glued down. The Pros: Super comfortable over rough terrain. Limited foot slip inside the shoe. Exceptional lug grip. Low foot fatigue over long runs. Zero blisters or running, despite toe box stretch. All in all, I'm not stoked about the build quality, but to be honest, they've done really well by me. Contemplating the the Jaws for my next pair, as they are a little lower profile, which is my preference in a trail shoe. I like the soles as thin as my feet can handle. For reference, I've run in five fingers for years. Sadly, the 4mm soles are far too thin for Red Rock Country.

Cushioning feels very nice and secure both up and downhills. Not too much, just enough to go fast. Outsole lugs work fairly well in mud/snow. What surprised me was the the rubber sticks well on wet rock (granite, limestone). No integrated rock-plate and no toe-bumper means they're suited for not too technical terrain. As for the upper: after a while I started noticing my foot sliding around. When I tied the laces more tightly they caused irritation at the top of my feet. It took a few months to figure out how to properly lace and tie the laces (the front as snug as possible, the back a little more loose with the additional loops engaged). Also the forefoot is a bit too wide for me, when I tie the laces, the two sides are almost touching. Maybe it's because the upper stretches over time. Some midfoot lockdown mechanism to prevent stretching (something like SensiFit) would work really well for these shoes. Pleasantly surprised with durability. Lasted over 900km (550mi).

This shoe was billed as THE shoe to get from Hoka if you desired a shoe with a wide toe box... Nope. Keep trying Hoka. You're miles away from getting this right. Honestly? I didn't even try these on. Didn't need to. Just looking at them you can see they grow more and more narrow as you get into the toe box. Not unlike a high heeled stiletto. If you love Hokas, this is probably a good shoe? No idea. I only ordered these because of the advertised "wide" toe box. If you need a shoe with a wide toe box, your only choice is something from Altra. I suggest the Lone Peak 4.0 Now, Altra could probably learn a thing or two about style from Hoka...

This HOO Torrent is mechanically perfect in everything I want from a pair running shoes. But this pair stinks as in it smells awful after getting wet with sweat which cannot be avoided. At first it only had a slight odor that I thought maybe because it was new. It's only been a month and this odor got progressively worse. It smells so bad that any odor eater spray or Febreeze does not even work. I have to keep it outside on the front porch. It's now stinking up the front porch, and this is out in open air. It's going in the garbage tomorrow. I cannot recommend this product. Serious stinker.

I'm in the military and put in anywhere from 10 to 50 miles a week for the last 20 plus years and these are the best running shoes I have owned and they hold up well even after a few hundred miles on them they still look good. I only buy hoka now.

I love these shoes so far. Only time will tell if they last, but they are built for the long-haul. I'll revisit this review in 6 months and let you know how they've held up.

I am a dog hiker. My shoes are very important to my work life.. Until these shoes, I had to add insoles to every pair of shoes I had. Merrill, Salomon, Nike, Axis, Keen, Le Sportif,...and one the list goes. All these high end sneakers needed over the counter insoles. Not Hoka's. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are and how long they have lasted and remained comfortable to hike in! I am a convert. I will always buy these sneakers.

I am about to start on my 2nd pair of Torrents. I use these as my primary hiking shoe. I do volunteer Preventative Search and Rescue in the Grand Canyon so they get hard use. My feet are still singing at the end of the day. A pair will get me through a season before the sides of the sole begin to shred, bottom of the sole holds up nicely. Given the terrain and obstacles encountered they are good value for the price. I will continue to use them for hiking.

This is the trail shoe I keep going to. It is responsive and light. I have been using the Torrent's for over a year and I am always happy (especially my feet) after really long runs. So far I have only used them for 50Ks, was going to use them this April to run the Whiskey Basin 91K (curse you Covid-19), but will hopefully get to use them in November with the reschedule, but then again the Torrent 2 will be out by then. All in all this is a great shoe from Hoka One One.

The Torrents are great for climbing and speed. When I am hauling in them I average .2-.mins faster than my speedgoats. I have put about 100 miles on them so far and they are pretty durable. However; I haven't done a run longer than and 19 miles on them so I am curious as to how my feet will feel when getting in the ultra miles. Only cons is my heel doesn't lock in like it does in the speedgoats.

I originally bought the Clifton's but didn't try them out until months down the road so they were past their 30 day guarantee. Hoka was awesome and let me exchange them for the Torrents anyway and I love them! Super good grip, comfortable and light weight. Will buy them again!
