Compression is all the rage now. These socks certainly provide plenty. It is perfect for a long day backcountry skiing. My only complaint is that I have to push the socks down after I get into camp - they have too much compression for sitting around.

Planned on using these going up Mt Rainier this summer.. a bit tight in the calves ( mine are not small) and really hard to get off and on over ankle because of compression of the sock higher up.. I will wear around and see if they will break in some, but Im thinking not..

These are probably great socks, I've never owned a pair of Smartwool Socks I didn't like, but buyers should be aware that the description of these socks are a bit misleading. Before purchasing these socks I had purchased a pair of the Smartwool Mountaineering Extra Heavy Crew Socks. I assumed that these were just the "Smartwool" version of those socks, and that because they were labeled as Mountaineering Socks they would be of similar thickness and warmth...but they really aren't. Again, probably awesome socks but don't purchase them thinking you are getting the warmest/thickest socks in Smartwool's PhD line.

I have purchased this style in the past, several years ago. They have been fantastic. Mine are softer, easier to pull another pair of over the calf knee highs than this newer color. My newest recent purchase is much harder to slide another pair of socks over for added warmth. I will not buy these again, sadly. They itch as well, where the Smartwool socks I have bought in the past have been very soft, wash after wash.

Ordered large and got a small to medium fit. Had to give them to my wife.

These socks were the same size as my three other pairs of compression socks. I even had an online chat to be sure that they were, indeed compression socks, and I was told that they were. I literally spent more than 10 minutes trying to get one sock on and after I did, it was way too tight, and my calves are not really large at all. I ordered them because they were pretty, but I couldn't wear them. The actual sock was pretty. So, I'm returning them for something I can wear. I LOVE Smartwool socks. I, my husband, our daughter, and her son wear some sort of smartwool socks.

I found a hole in my sock once i put in on for sizing. It was easy to put on but there was little to no pressure on my foot or ankle (my foot is where my veins pop out) and the calf was a little too snug under my knee.

My husband has some swelling and loves Smartwool socks so when I saw you had compression socks I ordered him a pair. Unfortunately, they are much too tight for him and he couldn't wear them
