I've own a few pairs of these through out the years. And they are one of my top boots of all time. Why? Because Salomon makes them WITHOUT GorTex or any waterproof lining. THAT'S GREAT!
Don't get me wrong, waterproofing has it's place. But for 80% of my hikes and trips in Southern California, I DO NOT need it. It gets too hot here year round, and I run too hot my self, so having a breathable mesh boot like the X Ultra is AMAZING. No matter how much they claim a waterproof lining is breathable, it always gets too hot and humid .
Few companies make good ankle high mesh boots without a waterproof lining. For this reason I keep coming back to these year round.
But the colors can be so hit and miss. You guys leave the good colors for the other versions for some reason.
I am happy this year there was a muted, darker color choice so now I can use them around town. Please keep giving us better color choices! Thanks :)

I've had my boots since January 2019 and love them so much! They're great for hiking in the warm AZ desert. Just need to be carful about thorns on overgrown trails. I should have bought more pairs when they were available because I love them so much. I even have the GTX version for places out of the state that get rain. I've really worn them down and hope Salomon comes out with the X Ultra Mid 4 Aero. I don't want to switch brands, but my feet need to breath! Is there a release day for 4s in an aero version?

I was looking for a hiking boot that was not water proof or insulated and would really breathe in warmer weather. This boot did all of that

After one deployment to the sandbox for 6 months, 2 Colorado Elk seasons, 2 trips to Costa Rica, and countless miles on pavement and trails I am finally retiring this pair of hikers/shoes. This is my 2rd pair and the X Ultra Mid is nothing short of the most versatile, longest lasting, non-Gortex mid top shoe from Salomon.
It works great as a trail running shoe if you have ankles that are played out or lightweight do anything jungle boots. They dry extremely fast if they get wet and breathe extremely well. Which is especially important in the SE US, any jungle environment or the Serengeti where its hot.
Outside of the Quest 4D non-Gortex boot (Forces Collection only) this is the best option for a Salomon boot that isn't Gortex that will punch above and beyond its own grade.

I love these shoes! Yes, like other reviews the laces come un-tied to easily. That's resolved by using a double knot. I have worn all of these pretty much every day since I first discovered them. Great quality and long lasting shoe.

I love the Salomon X Ultra mid-high boots. I have a the GTX 4 and the Mid 3. They are super comfortable and my feet are very well supported. A bit of extra lacing is needed to get them tight, such as doubling the first cross and using a double knot, cinched down.

I've had two sets of these and I've had thousands of miles in each of them, they are my go to boots in the winter, never go on a trip without them.

Great boots but black is not the best color for warm/hot climates. Khaki or coyote would be the Bees knees.Thanks.

I bought these shoes about 6 years ago - best hiking boots I’ve had. The soles are almost worn out so I bought a new pair. I labeled the fit as “perfect” because that’s the closest choice provided but I think the fit in the uppers around the heel is just a bit looser than the original. Not enough to complain about but those of us with narrow heels know what I mean. The toe box felt just a bit larger also, which is welcome. The original was made in Vietnam and these are made in Cambodia, so maybe something changed in the new factory.

Bought a pair in Dec 2017 and wore them continuously for several months then once or twice a week since then. More urban trekking, the office and crime scenes. They lysol and clean up well! Almost ready for a 2nd pair. Liked them enough to convince a coworker to buy them. He loves them.

I'm looking to buy my fifth pair of these. I've easily hiked many hundreds of miles in them. I've worn them until they were visibly, completely destroyed after months grueling of use and they still were working. When I buy new boots, I go get these, verify they are the right size and check for damage. Then I walk to the front of the store and buy them. They are my go to boot and I hope they never get discontinued. I'd rather not have to switch over to a different boot after having the perfect one for so long

Been wearing these for a few months, fit true to size for me. Super breathable great summer boot. You can feel the breeze going through the mesh. Don't recommend for winter time but for summer they are amazing!!

I'm super happy with theses shoe. I go hiking twice a week from novice to more advanced trails. They are comfortable and breath very well, my feet tend to sweet a lot but not in these shoes. Last but not least, they stopped my ankle from rolling a few times. I go hiking alone so I would've been stuck on the trail for a while. I definitely recommend!!!

Muy contento con las botas, son ideales para rutas por montaa y senderismo. Son muy ligeras y transpirables, ideales para climas no muy frios. Utilizadas en rutas de 20-30 km con un desnivel positivo de 1000m aprox.

I wear a 9.5 and my right foot is slightly wider than my left. So that being said these are a fantastic fit. After wearing the Guardians 670-1 boots I knew Solomon's they were worth it. So I bought these ones for the civilian side and I can't complain what so ever. Especially for having little padding in the boot I can stand and walk for hours with little to no fatigue and haven't had any issues with the integrity of any part of the boot. Honestly the best set I've ever had. They are light, durable, and super comfortable. If I had to really pick at it I'd say the laces aren't that great only because even if I tie them tightly they tend to loosen up after some time so that's kind of annoying but that can be fixed by buying new laces or fast lacing style laces. Other than that worth it

Purchased the X Ultra Mid 3 Aero boots about 2 months ago. These are the first pair of Solomon hiking boots that I have owned and I am very impressed! They are as light as my Hoka running shoes and provide a lot of ankle stability and traction.

I took these on the 55-Mile Rae Lakes Loop in the Sequoia National Park and loved them. I was carrying a 40 lbs load with me and crossed multiple boulder fields and streams and they preformed as expected. The traction was phenominal and my footing never gave away climbing over rocks even after crossing streams. I didn't even break them in and did the entire route without blisters. For those of you wondering whether to get the Gortex version I would highly suggest getting these. When they do get wet, they dry so quickly that it the intial discomfort is negligable. This allows you to cross water features safely as soon as you come up to them without having to change into water shoes or worrying about slipping on rocks with your bare feet. So if you are hiking in hot to mild dry climates then this should be the purchase for you.

My husband is trying to replace a pair of Salomon hikers he still has that are 15 years old. He's never found anything as comfortable as his old ones, but these are very close. His feet have grown over the years, and his 13's are now just slightly too tight. We accidentally ordered this in 13's for him to try, and they, too, are too tight for him. However, we're having a really hard time finding anything in 14's (that he likes). Especially Salomons. So sad. But these are fantastically light and comfy hiking boots, if that's what you're after. He doesn't buy anything in size 14, by the way. Even with regular socks, these 13's were too small. So they do run a bit small.
