I have been looking for a nice black Oxford shoe to wear in an office setting, something a little dressy but not necessarly "tuxedo" formal. I was excited to get these shoes because the style looked perfect and because of the reputation of Frye boots. However, once they arrived I was surprised by how cheap they felt. The leather is very thin and the whole shoe has a light, hollow feel to it. I did some research and apparently Frye is now owned by a huge Chinese shoe company -- I'm guessing this is common knowledge to some but I didn't know until I looked into it. This particular style is made in China, which does not always mean low quality but seems to in this case.
They felt comfortable enough and have a nice look to them. It's a kind of rugged formal look that dresses up or down. If these shoes cost $80 I would probably keep them but I'm going to send them back as they feel unacceptably cheap for nearly $200. I worry about their durability and they feel like they would fall apart quickly. Just an overall very cheap feeling with these shoes.
Sizing was accurate. I'm a 9.5C and these were a little wide for me but perfect in length.

These look fine from 10 feet away but feel like a Walmart grade shoe. Cheap leather, cheap insole, cheap rubber sole, no craft. What a shame for such a legendary brand to put out such garbage. If they want to chase cheap mall brands they should at least price them accordingly. Beware of this junk.

I bought both the black pair and brown pair as gifts. Hubby loves them both!

I've been filling my fiance's closet with Frye for a couple of years now and these are a wonderful addition to his rotation. The shape is gorgeous and the color and texture is rich. They'll carry him through years of dancing, exploring and growth.

I bought these because I needed a new pair of dress shoes to wear with a new suit, and my Frye boots are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, with great looks even after years of consistent wear. These look great, but are a little stiffer, don't distribute my weight as well, but I'm sure after a few wears will start to feel a little more comfortable. The non-slip outsole throws me a little, as I generally expect an Oxford to have less traction.

I bought this 2 weeks ago and used them for a business trip. Broke in very quickly and look amazing. I actually bought my second pair "Tyler Engineer". Waiting to receive them as well. Excellent quality

This shoe is very comfortable the second you slip them on. I recommend sizing down a half size. Would definitely buy another pair if they were offered in a cognac color!

These are about a 1/2 size larger. So my 9.5 was a clear 10 which is the only reason I gave this 4 out of 5 overall stars. I bought the Brown Suede which look more tan or caramel or khaki (a good thing). These are the nicest quality of any similar suede shoe I own (and I have at least others from different brands). Strong sole; some wood in the heel; can be worn dressy or casual which is their primary appeal to me. If they had them in a suede black and darker suede brown and suede navy blue, I'd by more. I have only worn them once. Thus far, comfortable.

Bought these on Frye's reputation. Full grain leather, light, and comfortable -- they fit my foot! I wish I'd known that they were made in China, at that price, I expected something else... Very pleased with my business casual acquisition.

We tried appx 10 different dress shoes from zappos...of all these had the best true brown color. not too dark not too orange. also they have a great look. a capped toe that doesn't look so long as many of the other capped toe oxfords, so the balance of the shoe is excellent.
The big strikes against this shoe are; 1. The leather of the shoe after the cap ( in-between the cap and where the lacing is) immediately distresses and lightens after wearing for less than 5 minuets which then gives the shoe a two toned look that immediately want to polish. To casual for a dress shoe IMO and frankly even when casual when I see this trait on other peoples shoes, I tend to not like it...
2. The fit for moderately high volume foot is not good, normal size 10 or 10.5 both were too tight...could've tried the wider 3E but really, don't usually need more than a normal d width an E at most , 3E no thanks and besides, still don't like how the distress/discoloartion looks...
sadly these got returned like all I've tried so far....i tried some eccos which were by far the most comfortable and had a very decent dress shoe look, but had its own distressed look and colors that were not attractive...

I bought a pair of Frye Oxfords in 2013 and they have been my favorite pair of Oxfords ever. Incredibly comfortable and great quality leather, my feet feel like they're wearing a leather jacket. Those were shoes manufactured in Mexico, where you can expect high quality leather (see http://www.bootedmanblog.com/?p=3510). I bought this pair expecting similar quality, but the quality is greatly inferior, and now made in China. Will be sending these back as I'm looking for something that will last.
