I've worn Bates boots before while working security. They seem to run narrower than most boots so I always order the wide. When you first put the boot on you will actually say that this can't possibly be a wide. But after you wear it a day or so, they seem to conform to your foot and stretch out a bit and become some really comfortable boots.
Getting them on in the morning still seems a little sng but once they are on your feet, they are very comfortable. I kept expecting them not to be very comfortable because I had to really push my feet in to get them on but they are super comfortable all day long and very light on my feet.
I would give them a 5 star rating except for the extra effort to get them on in the morning. Note: these boots do have a side zipper which is supposed to make it easier to get on. However my experience is that they only work if everything is lined up just right. The zipper won't move sometimes and you have to work it to get it zipped up. Too much work-- it's easier to loosen the laces and just push my foot into the boot and not have to mess with the zipper...

Had to walk through some serious snow, ice, and slush the first time I wore these. Totally comfortable. Love that my toes weren't crushed at all. My feet were warm, completely dry, and I didn't slip even once. They are lightweight yet sturdy. I have tendinitis and these accommodated my ankle support band no problem. Very happy.

I truly love this model. The boots wear well and guard my truly awful feet. I'm on my feet at work anywhere up to 19 hours at a time working on Movie and TV sets in studio and on location. The Velocitor Boot has helped me get through so many long days by cushioning my walk and helping me avoid problems that so many co-workers endure.

These shoes are definitely waterproof and very comfortable after being broken in for a couple of days. They feel more like tennis shoes than boots!

I'm on my feet up to 18 hours a day on concrete, in mud, snow, ice, and sand. These boots have been the best that I've ever dealt with, Don't waste your money on Doc Martens, these versatile boots make it so that I'm able to get through a long day on set without foot or ankle pain.

I don't know a lot about this boot because I purchased it for my son for Christmas. He was the one that did the research and picked it out.

Good boot, I've worn it a few times, it's taking a bit to break in...I've had good and bad luck with Bates, we'll see how these hold up!

Very comfortable, durable (a couple months into frequent use - so far, so good), no complaints here. "Extra wide" feels normal; I imagine "standard" may feel slightly narrow.

This is my first pair of Bates and I couldn't be happier. I work on my feet 10-12 hours a day and I go through a lot of boots. When I first got these boots I thought there is no way there 4E. But to my surprise they fit like a glove and there very comfortable and by far my favorite pair of boots. I will be buying a second pair for sure. You can't go wrong with these boots.

Bought these boots for work. Usually have them on for 14 hours or more. They are the most comfortable boots I've owned in 13 years as a firefighter. Highly recommend these boots.

I used to be a big fan of Bates for my work boots. Until I purchased a dud pair. I had switched to Under Armour and started wearing their boot/sneaker Valsetz. Great boot for comfort not super durable but worth the money if you were on your feet all day. Now the sad part. UA completely discontinued that boot and replaced it with a subpar version. Which brings me back to Bates. This boot in every way seemed like my solution to the discontinued boot. So I ordered it in the same size as the UA received them immediately in the mail (zappos is fast!) they were huge!! Had to return them for a half size smaller. These were pretty loose for the width even with a slightly thicker sock and an orthopedic insert.
These aren't as comfortable as the UA I loved. Cushioning is pretty firm, traction is good, they breathe alright but I did experience some rub during my shift. No blister but discomfort. So if you're like me looking for the UA replacement keep looking.

These are probably the best boots I have ever owned they are perfect in every way with on exception I average 15000 steps a day between two jobs and in three months the sole is almost worn through and the leather has become detached from the mesh on one side this is unacceptable boots that cost $165.00 should last at least 6 months to a year I have had cheaper less comfortable boots last longer than these.

Beware - these boots are not marked "4E" on the boot or on the box it comes in. They are only labeled "EW," as in "extra-wide." To me, it felt like a 2E at most; I could jam my feet in with a shoehorn, but I would never wear them like that. These should not be cross-categorized as "4E," in my opinion.
