I have had chronic foot pain for decades and Vasque used to be one of the only brands I could wear, particularly the Velocity and Mindbender. Then they discontinued/changed styles and I haven't found a Vasque that works for me in years. I need really good arch support, a pretty firm yet somewhat cushioned sole, and a style that makes the traditional motion of rocking you forward from heel to toe. The Grand Traverse didn't have quite enough arch support, but the bigger problem was that the sole is "flat"--it doesn't naturally move your foot from heel to toe--I think the heel isn't as high relative to the toe as in other Vasque shoes I've owned. A shoe I found that is working great so far is the Women's Montrail Mountain Masochist III Outdry Trail-Running Shoes--highly recommended, and I see it's on sale right now at Zappos. I would love to hear suggestions of similar shoes from others!

Narrow stylish shoe but they don't offer a ton of support for real trail hikers. I hate to say this, but they fit like a pair of flat Vans with little arch support. I'm keeping them because I wore them on a hike trip but they won't be the shoe I choose for my next outing.

This is a sophisticated looking 'hiking shoe' (and I've been trying out a lot/Merrells, Clarks, Ahnu) and I really wanted it for an upcoming trip to Italy. It's grippy and supportive with a stylish European look, what more could you ask except for it to be comfortable... Unfortunately, it's very snug, a bit short in the toe box and narrow. It looks like a sock on my foot...the ol' tightly wrapped burrito look, which would be ok if comfortable. Kind of feels like a running shoe. I don't know if going up a 1/2 size will help but I may try. Otherwise, I will have to return. Disappointing as it has so much going for it. I purchased the beluga color and it's a deep charcoal with a splash of color.

The shoe is very nice, not sure about long hikes though. My main problem was it was too narrow in the toe box, could feel might little toe scrunching. I had Mindbenders before, which have a bigger toe box.

I am trying to replace my old Vasque hiking shoes, which served me well for 11 years. At this point I don't know what model the old ones are, the box being long gone. These Grand Traverse didn't come close. They seemed to fit my narrow heel okay, but the toe box was too shallow, and they just didn't feel like a sturdy hiking shoe, so I will return them.
