After breaking them in and wearing them several times a week for over a month, I can definitely say these boots pass the comfort test. It's important to note that I walk a lot and work at a standing desk 8-9 hours a day, so the fact that I will call these boots comfortable for active day use definitely means something! ;) Even so, I might try an insole with them in the future. I guess the only downside is that lacing can be kind of obnoxious, but really that's just my own personal quirk and impatience. (I've only had one other pair of leather lace-up boots, and those technically had a zipper on the side so I never had to lace them every time I wore them.) Also, I switched to the matte cloth laces immediately (not into the ribbon thing), but I think I might find different laces all together. They're so thick and chunky that they don't hold well or allow for double knots. I'm constantly retying my shoes! In any case, these boots are definitely sturdy, and I expect they will last a long time with proper care. I got the chocolate brown ("Oxblood Elk") though I would love to also get a pair in cherry red.

Great boots! They go from country to city and in-between. The fit is true to size and generous. Love them! Also, the service from Zappos is always first-rate and fast!

Love these boots! They do seem to run bigger than normal boots. I wear an 11 and even with my thicker socks which I can't wear with other boots, they were still a little floppy on my feet. This is the second pair of Dr. Martens that i own and both pair hurt my back bent over lacing them up. I finally had to prop my feet up on a wall to lace them up each time. I still love them and as long as my wall holds up, I will keep wearing them. They are so comfortable. I am going to mark true to size because the length is true to size but the surrounding shoe is wider.

I adore these boots! If you're feeling down in the dumps, put these boots on - the compliments you'll get will make you feel better. I've worn them laced up and folded down either way people say how cute they are. Great buy.

I got these in the CHERRY RED DARKENED MIRAGE with red plaid inside... and not only are they super cute in a rock 'n roll type of way, but they are so comfortable! I am a size 10 with a semi-wide foot and the fit was great! A little wide for M width, but I like that as I wear orthotics. I have to say this is my first pair of Docs and they will not be my last. The red is not a bright red... more of a muted pale red, which I like. They come with 2 pairs of laces... one that matches plaid inner and one that matches leather upper. Wonderful purchase!

I love these boots! They are so cute and so comfortable! I wore them around the house the first few nights that I got them! I get lots of compliments on them, too. They have ribbons for shoe laces, so cute! They come with regular laces, too.

Very stiff. No matter how my daughter tried, she could not get them to relax and stop hurting along the back of her ankle. Had to return them.

These boots are great! I was between these and the 1460s, but the Aimilee looked a bit more feminine. In terms of sizing, my foot is about 9.7", which is an 8.5. I ordered the size 8, knowing that these run large, and they were huge on me! I ended up with the size 7, which fit perfectly. I do have a narrow foot, but regardless, these run really large. As for breaking them in, the last pair of Docs I had took a full month. With these, I went hiking in them the day after I got them with no problems. I believe it is because of how soft the leather is, vs. the tougher leather on the classic Docs. Final thought, I love the ribbon laces on these!

I bought my first pair of Docs for my daughter and myself when she was 16 and I was 43. They are great fitting/looking. My daughter of course wore them for an edgier look. I wear them with jeans or long skirts. I am now 62, just bought the Aimilie and still love my docs. They give my feet the additional support I need to be comfortable all day. I work at an Ag museum so they are perfect attire for work. Even my 60 something friends compliment me on them. I think they can make whatever look you want for them. The are ageless.

Gorgeous, gorgeous boots. I used to wear Docs in my early 20s, and now many years later, I'm the proud owner of these beauties! These do not need to be broken in. Previous docs of mine have had to be, but this is a softer leather. The color is gorgeous! Another website however is selling this same style and color for MUCH cheaper. Not sure why, because the other colors are more expensive. Same exact shoe though. I highly recommend these though and expect to wear these for a long time.

These boots are amazing!I am usually an 8...by reading reviews I ordered a size down and the 7 fit great and love the laces and they give you an extra pair of normal laces too! Great show all around...and Zappos has my heart, amazing company to match their customer service. :)

These are great. I normally wear a US size 9 woman's and so I bought the size UK 7 in these. Well they were too big. I returned them for the UK 6 and those fit perfectly. Thank you Zappos for your amazing return policy. Anyway I find these boots to be quite comfortable though I haven't worn them for any real length of time yet since it's still too hot for boots here in Florida. I do think I will change the footbed out for a more cushioned insole since these have minimal arch support and aren't very cushioned. I love the plaid laces. They really add to the style. The size 7 came with just the one pair of laces but when I ordered the 6 they came with a second pair of laces that are plain red to match the boots. Nice surprise though I don't imagine I will want to ever change out the plaid laces. The red is true to my computer monitor color. It's a darkish red. Nice color though I would have loved a brighter red.

I'm sure the boot is great like all Dr. Martens, but the taupe color is MUCH lighter in the pictures than the actual color of the boot. It was a very dark grey in real life, and at first I thought they had sent the wrong shoe. I had to send it back. Also, just fyi, it came with both flat and ribbon laces.

I am in love with these boots! When I received them, they are true to size, no break in time and comfy as heck. They're all I want to wear, so I bought another pair in blue. I've gotten so many compliments on them. Out go the heels.

These boots are super comfortable, right out of the box. I switched out the ribbon laces for the black that came with. I usually wear straight but folded down is also cute!

These are without a doubt my favorite winter shoes. They're comfy, warm, true to fit, perfect in the snow and ice. The ribbon laces are a nice, funky touch. You can even wear these shoes without socks. Best purchase of the winter by far!

Cute, fit well, and aren't hard to break in. The only thing that's annoying is the back buckle for wearing the boots folded down (which I don't). They jingle like you're wearing spurs.

I purchased this boot for my daughter. She adores them. She needs to walk to public transporation and they are very warm and comfortable.

My wife loves these, the blue wash color is very unique, goes with wide range of everyday wear, jeans, skirts, dresses, etc., the thick silky laces in matching color provides awesome accent, these have a lot of personality, these are my wife's go to shoes for comfortable around-the-town wear in our heavy suburban/light-urban neighborhood, they make a certain statement says basically "I'm not a mee-too kinda gal" and "I have a clue". Definitely more aggressive than your everyday women's boot, slightly intimidating even, not a "date-night" shoe or a "night out at the singles bar" shoe, but far less aggressive than the traditional Doc-Marten's of the 90's, especially when the flowery insides are turned out, generally though only in the warmer months. Versatile enough to be the first boot, but a must-have in any collection of two or three boots, definitely recommend.

I thought these boots were really comfortable and stylish. However, I ended up giving them away because they are not black, as stated, they are a rather not so nice-looking dark green. I hope to find a pair in the Aimilie style that are actually black.

These boots are not black, they are dark green. I like the color fine, but if you want black boots you can just put some black shoe polish on them. I usually wear a size 8½, so I ordered a 9 and they fit perfectly. They are surprisingly light for boots and very comfortable. The soles are flexible and bouncy. I have walked long distances for hours on end and been comfortable in these boots. The style is exactly what I was looking for in a combat style boot. I never wear them folded down, but I do not mind the buckle at the back.

I love these boots. I got them on Monday and have been wearing them every day since. It's Friday now and the little bit of breaking in needed has already been done. They are very comfortable for all day wear. The boot is roomy in the toe, They don't feel too big but I would recommend wearing them with thick socks. I found them really chunky looking at first and had a hard time creating outfits, but I get tons of compliments on them and now that I'm used to the look of them it it doesn't bother me. It's worth having slightly chunky boots for such comfort and practicality.

Lovely boots, but I have a really high instep and there was a lot of pressure right where the tongue started. So, sadly they were not for me, but aside from that they seemed pretty great.

Can't speak to how they wear (I'm exchanging for a smaller size), but wanted to point out two things:first, the shoe runs WAY large. I'm returning them for a full size smaller, and I hope that's going to be enough. Second, the shoe color is much grayer than it appears in the Zappos image, if that matters to you. Didn't get a chance to wear them around, but when I tried it on at least the sole felt very comfortable. Surprisingly cushioned and springy, for such a rigid-appearing shoe.
