I've been wearing these shoes almost daily for the past 8 months and am quite happy with them. The fit and quality are great. They get a fair amount of compliments on their style. They make a great every-day shoe as well as a perfect hiking shoe. There is no arch support so I use some inserts by goodfeet and they make all the difference. The stealth rubber sole is tacky and grips well on everything...however, this is the one byproduct that is a downside, they will leave black scuff marks on everything. Just be careful where you're putting your feet around your mother's house...you've been warned. Apparently from 5.10 you can purchase replacement soles, though I'm not sure if that would be something a cobbler would be required to do or if that is a kitchen table job...good to know seeing as though the sole will wear much faster than other types of rubber. After seeing my pair a friend in a fit of jealous rage went and bought the leather model. I recommend them highly.

Love this shoe. I got it because it looked like a cool kick-around shoe, but then I happened to go to Joshua Tree for a campout and wore these rock climbing...totally sticky, I felt like spider man. My only downside is that the sole looks pretty thin, so I am not sure how long they will last. Other than that they are great.

I was looking for vegan-friendly walking shoes and consequently, my choices were limited - most shoes that fall into that category, like Vans or Sperry, had zero arch support. These shoes have good arch support and are comfortable as well. Since they're climbing shoes, the soles are pretty soft, so they probably will not last very long, for that reason, I bought a second pair right after I found that they would fit and felt good. Overall, I'm happy with the shoe.

These shoes are surprisingly stiff along the last. Still, they are very comfortable. The soles are exceptionally 'grippy.' Overall construction is excellent.

I bought these for myself and went to Costa Rica for vacation. Lots of rain forest and mountain forest walking/hiking. My feet were comfortable the entire trip. I think they are stylish and true to fit. I've worn them to work with jeans and would buy other products by Five Ten. Thumbs up. True to size with fit.

So I bought these because I fell in love with the 5.10 guide tennie (leather ones). I like these ones but they did not break in as nice as the other ones. After two weeks I am still trying to break them in but I have high hopes for them.

I use this shoe for low-grade climbing (class 4 - low class 5) where a full hiking boot is either suboptimal or dangerous. They're light, super sticky and were wonderful on everything I threw at them with the exception of a long gravelly slope (pebbles get inside low-tops). The wrap-around solid, sticky rubber toe piece is key. I highly recommend these to anyone who doesn't truly need a climbing shoe (slipper) for the ascent at hand. Climbing shoes have their place, but they really aren't pleasant to wear. In contrast, I could wear an approach shoe like this every day (but I don't so as to save them for terrain where I really need them to work their magic).

Bought these for my husband. He lives them. He is very picky about his shoes because he is on his feet all day as a land surveyor. He swears one of his feet is bigger than the other so he always has one shoe that is uncomfortable but I haven't heard any complaints from him.

I love these shoes! I am now considering buying a 2nd pair. I wear them for teaching photography workshops in Hawaii along the rocky coastlines and for short hikes through jungle to waterfalls. They are comfy and sized properly for my size 11. I also like that they are "vegan" shoes!

5.10 makes the best mountaineering footwear available. For approach boots, the 2 versions of the Guide Tennie (leather and canvas) and their big brother the Camp Four are unparalleled. I've been on numerous adventures in multiple pairs of Guide Tennies and Camp Fours and highly recommend their performance and durability.

I love these. They feel a little bit like a hiking boot in that they are a little stiffer/sturdier than typical shoes but they are really comfortable and feel really well built. Definitely 100% vegan for those who are curious.

This is a great shoe. I've used it for gym climbing, single rope ascending, bouldering and hiking through the jungle in Mexico. The upside and downside of this shoe is there is no cushion in the sole and the heel is narrow. The design of the shoe allows me to feel truly connected to the ground and that it is a very stable platform. It just isn't that great for walking. It also has a tendency to allow my ankles to roll when walking on uneven surfaces.

My go to shoes for scrambling around Southern NV/CA when I don't need extra arch or ankle support (when I'm not wearing a backpack). The 5-10 rubber is insanely sticky, which is what approach shoes are for. Be warned: wearing these indoors will ALWAYS leave black scuff marks on floors and light carpeting, so don't wear them in the houses of your parents/friends/self.

These are the newish canvas version of the traditional guide tennies. To sum it up, nice look, very little arch support, thin soles, bomber C4 rubber, insoles flattened out quickly (especially if you use them as hiking shoes, they'll flatten out in a week). As with all my five ten shoes, I almost immediately put some superfeet insoles in them. I do think with superfeet in five ten shoes they are the ultimately shoe for a guide. I know some people use these as parkour shoes but I would recommend sticking with their parkour line. I also own the nubuck version of these and originally I thought they were the same with just a different upper, they are not. These have a slightly softer midsole, and the shoe is just a bit wider than their leather counterpart. For outdoor use I still prefer the leather ones, but these are stylish and more comfortable, making it my go to shoe for short approaches with a not so heavy pack on. They are also made in the USA, which is awesome. I also own the a few pairs of the savants, insights, camp fours, and chase. The best place for these shoes is probably Yosemite and the Grand Canyon.

I purchased these to replace my worn pair of Guide Tennies. I am confident that their function is comparable to the older model; however, I can't understand the new styling. What happened? The older model looked good enough to wear around town and performed excellent on both short and long hikes. Unfortunately, these ugly things will be designated as "trail only."

I bought these shoes for work. I manage a warehouse so I'm on my feet most of the day. These shoes are little rock magnets you can feel and hear them when you walk on surfaces. They have no arch support so insoles are a must. But they are made in the USA, Buy American!

Let me begin by saying Zappos customer service is awesome and makes for a great shopping experience in the event that you should hit a snag with your purchase. I am 100% satisfied with the personability and helpful assistance I received with my recent purchase of the 5.10 guide tennie. Now for the shoe. After deliberating a great deal and reading many reviews, I settled on the guide tennie to meet the needs in mind. I climb quite a bit in the Austin area and hill country of Texas, and often times I have novice climbers with me. To minimize set-up and maximize climbing time, I wanted a shoe that could handle a strenuous approach and then support me on a lead up a 5.7 or 5.8 to set top ropes for other climbers. The guide tennie seemed to be an answer to prayer. Right out of the box they were comfortable. They snugged down with the lacing system wonderfully for strenuous, steep approaches. Though they have the profile of a climbing shoe, the rigity of the sole gave me ample support for the approaches, and I never really felt threatened with turning an ankle. I wore the shoes out two days the day after I received them, hiked Enchanted Rock, and led three different 5.7/5.8 sport climbs. Sounds like a great shoe right? So why only 2 stars on overall rating. At the end of day 2, I'm loosening the laces after cleaning a climb and I noticed the rubber of the sole has separated at the seam of the toe. It wouldn't have taken but one more hike for the sole to be pulled completely off. Again this was day two out of the box. I am going to say that this is probably just a manufacturing malfunction, a 'lemon.' Other reviews indicate that these shoes are awesome. I agree in most cases except for where it mattered most, quality. Again, I'm not bashing 5.10; I'm sure this was just a slip up on quality control. Like I said, I'm working out a return and will probably try out the scarpa zen to satisfy my needs.
