Great shoe, only gave it 4 stars because of the laces, replace them and the shoes will stay securely on your feet...

My first impression is that the shoe both looks and feels very well made. I like a durable Oxford, but these do feel a bit on the heavy side. I significantly overpronate so I typically use an arch support and the removable insole easily accommodates my inserts. After several weeks of wear I'm pretty happy with these.

Once again, I have to return shoes to Zappos because they were described as having an "anti-fatigue midsole" or some such untruth. It is Timberland's fault for claiming this, because it is not true. I stand and walk a ton at work, and it is super painful. Pretty much anything harder than running shoes or Crocs is too hard for my feet, which have gotten wimpier over the years. Anyhow, I do not appreciate Timberland claiming that these have "anti-fatigue midsoles" because it is not true. The midsole is the part of the shoe under the insole/footbed. It is a vital part of the comfort of a shoe. Take Asics running shoes, for example. Most have soft midsoles. Just lift up the insole, and push your thumb down on the material underneath. If it is hard, you do not have really comfortable shoes. Some cheap shoes even use cardboard. Check it out sometime: Lift the insole and see what is under there. These shoes have a midsole that is barely mushable. It is drilled with holes to make it lighter, but it is not soft. I would be crippled after a single workday in these shoes. Trust me: If you need truly comfortable shoes, these are not them. I am pretty much a shoe expert at this point, so I know what I am talking about. These look very well made and look stylish, but they are not that comfortable. The midsole is not EVA (like in a pair of running shoes) or even soft polyurethane. It is also fairly heavy. Dang. This shoe quest is getting old. I have a pair of Zero-G Hush Puppies (Glen model) that are awesome, but slippery on tile floors, and the sole is wearing out (it is soft EVA foam), so I was looking for something nicer and more durable. Oh well. Onward I go...

These are probably the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned. I wore them around a little at home (way too little apparently!) and they fit well so I wore them to work the next day. My feet were killing by the end of the day. Also, I found they have about as much support as a Chuck Taylor. The soles might as well be made out of cardboard. Not good for my high arches and instep. I tried an arch support insert and my foot barely fit in the shoe because the entrance to the shoe is cut so low. This low-cut accounts for the pain, where the shoes rub against the tops of my heels. Otherwise, the shoes seem well constructed and I like the way they look.

Worst pair of shoes I've ever purchased and bruised both of my Achilles' tendons, even though they seemed to fit properly. Thankfully, Zappos took them back no questioned asked.
