As a firefighter who has used these boots I must say, these boots will not hold up in any sort of fire related environment. I used the boots for basic firefighting procedures. It did not last for more than three fires. I do not recommend buying this boot if you are a firefighter. This boot needs more attention before going to fires. The company product, warranty and service does not compliment this specialty boot. I have had a terrible experience with this company and its products.

Bought these boots because I was in need of a lightweight ground boot; a lot of high reviews on these and they're all right, best out of the box boot I think I've ever worn. Tried the Hoffman Hiker, sent them back. They work the same if not better than my Wesco's on my hooks and steps. I never had a boot where if you can put your toe on it you can climb it. Shank and ankle support are excellent. Toe is not steel, but it does have a hardened toe box. If your work involves utility work and poles you gotta have a pair on your truck.

I bought my second pair of these about 3 1/2 years ago for use on a wildland fire engine module. They have seen their fair share of rough country and have held up surprisingly well. I don't know how long they would last on a hotshot crew but for the amount of money I paid compared to a new pair of Nicks or Whites (or even a resole now!), these boots were well worth it! Also, no issues with blisters or white-bite. My previous pair had the rubber over the toe, which I did not like, and the glue came apart there, but I have heard that since their first models (which were not even designed to be used on fires!) the problem has been fixed. I can say that I have had no similar issues with this model. The only drawback is they are not resolable or rebuildable, but I think with buying a new pair every once in a while I still come out money ahead. Whites and Nicks have been cutting a lot more corners than when I got my first pair of them and are now not worth the price to me.

A Missoula smokejumper recommended these to me so I tried them out. They have lasted me two seasons fighting fire- district work with lots of travel and filling in with shot crews. Now the tread is slick, so I'm getting another pair. Not sure if it's a batch-by-batch problem these other folks had or what. Maybe the sole wouldn't have lasted a shot crew on New Mexico hot rocks, but I'm still wearing this same pair, and now I'm rappelling in region 6, plenty of action! I did burn through the laces in some hot mop up, so replaced them with p cord, then leather when I got home. Good boots give em a shot. Two seasons for half the price of whites. It's the future.

These boot fell apart on my first training fire. Cutting line isn't really a problem. But if you find yourself doing any sort of mop-up, the glue on securing the front rubber comes undone with even light heat exposure...not really sure how these are NFPA certified.
