My husband has been wearing these for 3 weeks straight and absolutely loves them. They were comfortable out of the box, but they are still breaking in. Definitely recommend buy two pair, 1 at a 1/2 size down and 1 at a whole size down. These do run a bit small, but will stretch with use. Also, the laces will seem short at first, but will stretch as they wear in too. He highly recommends these boots.

Not a lot of wear time in these yet, but initial impressions are great boot! Stylish, rugged at the same time. Not really meant for heavy duty outdoor use. Reiterate what most others have said is these run BIG. I usually wear 12-13 shoes. Had to go down to an 11 on these.

I've had my pair Iron Rangers in the muleskinner color (tan suede) for just over two years. I still love them. Two years folks! And I am hard on boots. As others have remarked they will be stiff and loose right out of the box; however, they conform to your feet. The stiffness eases and the looseness draw in, for one of the best fitting most comfortable boots I've ever worn. When I bought mine two years ago I bought two pairs. 10 and 10.5, after wearing both around the house (inside on the carpet, do not wear outside. Outside = no return, and no money-backy). Therefore, unless you're returning like me to buy another pair, spend extra money (you'll get it back) for two pairs upfront, and send the other pair back once you're sure. As an Army veteran I know good boots and I know bad boots, soldiers live on their feet. These are not the latter. I'll even venture to say the Iron Ranger is more comfortable than my old Jump Boots. Now I've seen a couple reviews where the person slams the sole. And I'll tell ya, and as you can clearly see from the pictures above, the soles do not have any grooves or teeth for gripping. They're not hiking boots. If you want hiking boots, use the little search feature Zappos has conveniently placed in the upper middle and go buy some Asolos (which I've used in combat and swear by). However, I digress. The Iron Ranger was fashioned after the old mining boots miners used, thus the cap toe. So yeah, not good in the snow. However, they grip like a son-of-gun in the rain. If you want some killer comfy boots that go with khakis just as much as they go with jeans...buy these boots. You'll be happy you did!

This is a 3-year follow-up.
This boot was on the verge of painful for the first 2-3 weeks. It took a long time to break in. I wear cotton/wool blend Wigwam raglan socks and these boot were still a project. However, after 2-3 weeks of break-in, these boots really started to "work in" and became really comfortable. Now, after 3+ years they are absolutely my favorite shoes. I rub them with Mink Oil about twice per year. I also wash them alternately with Saddle Soap about twice per year. These boots are really amazing. In Tennessee I wear them year-round and constantly get compliments on them in a very professional working environment. I will be buying a second pair within the next year just so I have another pair, in case they discontinue them. This is by-far my favorite shoe. It will be yours also, if you're man enough the get them broken in. :)

A truly great looking boot, but the sizing is very odd -- long and very narrow. The black only comes in "D" width, which really feels about like a "B" (narrow). The Amber comes in a "EE", which is probably about like a "D."

Just became my new favorite casual wear. I love this boot. Thought it might not be comfortable without an insole and all but that's not the case. I wear a 12 in most sneakers but had to go down to an 11 for this boot. So like most reviews I would consider going to a store To try one on first.

Believe the hype! I've only had these on for a day, and they've become my favorite pair of shoes. Sturdy and stylish construction, the quality leather is already conforming to my feet wonderfully. I'd advise ordering a half size down (I got 9.5, my regular size is 10). The only downside is the flat sole (as others have mentioned), although that isn't a concern for me as there's no snow or ice where I live. I'll be wearing these for a long time to come.

I have five pairs of Red Wings in various styles. I rank Red Wings at the top of list for quality, comfort, and durability. Reading all of the rave reviews left me with a need to comment about these boots and the other Red Wings. It's about the sizing of the boots. These are not like shoes in terms of fit. They feel large in the correct size, but that is because they allow for wearing boot socks and not the thin cotton socks worn with shoes. A nice thick boot sock fills out the boot just right. Tighten the laces to adjust the fit for the different thickness of the socks and the fit becomes perfect. If I went down in size there wouldn't be room for the thickness of boot socks. I buy from Zappos and from the Red Wing store near my house. Talking with the store owner has helped me to get the right size in my Red Wings. It's the size I normally wear and yes they fit roomy, but that is good and not bad. I can wear boot socks, but not my shoe socks. Boots fit differently than shoes so as I have purchased my pairs of Red Wings I have also purchased boot socks so I have the right fit and feel in my Red Wings.

Absolutely love this boot. I have been wearing them five days a week for about a month, and they are starting to break in nicely. Great with jeans for a casual look. As for sizing, I found them to be one half size smaller than my Nike's, but true to size when compared with Converse high tops.

This is my second pair of Red Wings. As a more rigid design, these did take a few days of wear to break in but since then they've been excellent. High quality, long lasting design and materials. I expect to enjoy these for years.

I read so many reviews on these shoes. I work on my feet all day, at least 10 hours. From walking like a crazy person back and forth on hard floors to standing and walking for the entire work day. I am the only woman I know to have written a review. So here goes, I love these boots. They definitely run the size bigger so get a size smaller like everyone is saying. I wear a guys 7 in Vans and a women's 8 1/2 in running shoes and most others. Redwings special ordered the Iron Rangers for me in a 6 and a 6 1/2. It is one of the few boots they carry that they can get in smaller sizes. I ended up with the 6. I have always worn a Superfeet insole. I swear by them and have been wearing them in my work and everyday shoes for at least 14 years. I don't have them in my Iron Rangers and I haven't missed them. The boots are stiff, but, in a way that says quality and it will be worth the wait when they turn buttery soft. It took 5 days for them to feel less stiff. I found the worst part was the bend at the toe. It would pinch me and took awhile for me not to be as affected. Last night I figured i would push on the pinch point from the inside, I didn't think it would do much but, it did. It wasn't an issue at all today. I have also been taking walks in these boots and have had no issue. I wear heavier socks. I will change the sole to something with more "bite" when these have had some wear on them. The hooks at the top of the boots are a way better than the eyelets that are on other boots. I am so glad I don't have to "lace" them every-time. It is fashionable for women to wear capped toe derby boots right now. These are real time work shoes with the flexibility of being worn out on the town. From someone who had no business spending 300 dollars on anything right now, they are worth every penny. Go to a Red Wings store and try some on. You will see why there are hundreds of positive reviews. Hundreds and one!

Great boot. I usually wear a 10.5 to 11 and I ordered a 10 wide in these boots. The fit is great and they are extremely comfortable right out of the box. I cant wait to get them broken in.

First and foremost, size down! As other reviews said, these run large. I bought a full size smaller, and they are breaking in to be a perfect fit. They are a good looking and sturdy boot. The out-sole is well made and slip resistant. By slip resistant, I mean to oil, grease, etc. The flat sole is not good in snowy or icy conditions! I have been wearing mine consistently for the last month, and they are really beginning to break in. Until they do, expect it to be stiff and, if you wear them all day early on, expect to have sore feet. I would highly recommend these to anyone who wants a sturdy good looking boot that should last a very long time.

I love these boots. I bought mine in black. I ordered one full size down, I am normally a 10 in Nike and purchased a 9 in these boots. You want the fit to be snug because they slowly stretch and conform to your feet. They are a little uncomfortable for the first week. Now fit like gloves.

Owing to the price, I waited a while to to purchase these boots. I try to buy american product even if there is a slight price premium, but these stung a bit. After reading the reviews here I thought I would give them a shot. I was lucky enough to have a RedWings store near by so I could try them on. I usually wear a 10 to 10.5 these were a perfect fit in a size 8.5. The sales person did not looks surprised, she just smiled and said they ran big. I did a 2 mile walk with the dogs wearing my new boots and literally no hot spots or rubbing. Honestly, a perfect fit. I also found out they they give you free shoe laces for life, will do any stitching repair at no charge (they send them in) and they will resole them for more. These are a great pair of american made boots. If you are on the fence, take the leap, I think you will be very happy.

These are great. They take a few days to break in, but then are incredibly comfortable. Super sturdy. And they work with jeans or khakis in the office. They run about a 1/2 size larger, so size down.

I contemplated this purchase for a long time due to cost. I am a Red Wing fan, in 15 years I have worn four pair of dress shoes daily for work. Resole them and keep on going. Two pair of casual boots still going strong. So my concern was not Red Wing, it was which style of the Heritage to get. I was looking for something that I could wear with jeans and khakis, dressed up or down, but give a manly looking shoe. I looked at many different styles. Thankfully I decided on Iron rangers. I absolutely love these boots. They give you a sense of confidence, they scream out look at me as you walk into a room. I am tempted to buy another pair to wear in place of my outside Red Wing cowboy boot style, that I work in the yard with. I want to keep one pair looking fresh and oiled. I think they look great with what ever you wear. I wore with jeans and a sports coat to church today, look great. I can't say enough about iron rangers. If in doubt, buy them. They are stiff as people have mentioned. I had to cut the edge of the tongue with scissors, on my left inside foot. The fold in the tongue landed on my ankle in a very bad way. I wore these to a conference at Caesar's Palace in Vegas the day I received them. I had to wear them 12 hours a day for four days. That was a forced break in of the boots, I had to walk miles per day. Once I got the tongue fixed no problems. I did go into a local Red Wing shoe store and try these on before I ordered to get correct fit. Same cost in store as here on line, but I had a gift card that I could only use on Zappos. My first purchase with Zappos, I must say a pleasure to do business with. Zappos top notch service.

Really beautiful, boots. Xmas gift for my husband. He's 11 or 11 1/2 in Adidas sneakers and a 12 in Dr Martins. Size 11 felt a little big but with good socks he loves them. No break in time. Walked the dogs on Xmas day in them and fell in love.

Great looking boots, Definitely scored some compliments. Not the best traction, but that's the cork sole vs rubber that I'm used to. Overall I really like 'em, although they will require maintenance to last forever. One nit-picky detail detail is that the laces curl up and stay that way so I'll have to figure out how to keep then relatively straight.

Although I did not purchase my Iron Rangers from Zappos (I have a Red Wing dealer down the street from me) I did want to provide my sizing impressions. I measured a 13½ on my left foot and just shy of 13 on my right. The 12 fit my larger foot just right and was a bit large for my right (though an insole in both could alleviate much of this). In all, I would say that these run one size big (at least for the larger sizes). My overall impressions are that these boots are a class act; I really cannot say anything negative about the styling. They are simply timeless and made with old world craftsmanship. The soles are totally flat. I wore mine out of the store into over 8" of snow and had to watch my step. That being said, these boots can easily go from office casual, to the wood shop to dinner without hassle. I just may have to buy another pair!

I usually don't wear boots and stick to my running shoes, but these are turning into my favorite pair of footwear. I considered a pair of Frye boots, but with the quick laces on the top and overall quality of construction I decided to go with Redwings. I wear size 11 in every pair of running shoes I own, but I had to order a full size down (10) for these to fit properly (I still have room for my arch supports). They feel better every time I put them on, so give them a week or two for the leather to break in. They are worth every penny of the cost! Be cautious on snow and ice as the leather bottom is slick!

Very high quality, good looking boots. The breaking in period can be tough on your feet, so bear that in mind when you first try them on. In particular some of the inner seams can really dig into your feet. The soles are terrible in ice and snow, but as long as you know when to wear them, you will love these boots.

It doesn't get much better than this. I've had these boots going on 3 years and they only get better with age. The leather is extremely thick and durable and when it gets a scratch or 2, it only adds to the character. I highly recommend getting red wing's pine boot oil to maintain these. After I wipe them down with a little oil, they look as good as new and it's been almost 3 years! There is not one sign of these falling apart. Until I bought these, I struggled to find a boot that would last and kept getting stuck with stuff made in China (most shoes you'll find in the US at the present time). These are made in the USA, and the attention to quality craftsmanship shows. They take a while to get comfortable (think months), but when they do, they feel like an extension of your body. A few months break in time is not long for something that will last longer than 5 years, in my opinion. I could see myself still wearing these in 10 years, honestly. The only complaint I have is the smooth bottom. These are not great for icy conditions.
