THE MEANING OF LIFE Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students, Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley, were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.

During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.

Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

My son loves wearing his rain jacket. I like that it's lightweight but keeps him dry. We got a size up so it will last more than one rainy season.

My almost 9 year old daughter loves these! She hasn’t found shorts in years that are comfortable. These were a hit! And, the fact that they are pants and shorts makes packing so easy. She is larger in the thighs and booty so I ordered her a large. They fit well with the adjustable waist that I can cinch up, and they look so cute on her.

These pants were nice but they are for my son and they came marked as Girls pants. Indeed, there was a lovely little flower motif above the rear pocket. Too bad, I'm returning them!

Ordered two pairs for my 8 and 10 year old daughters. Medium for the 8 year old - they are plenty big in the waist (thank goodness for the button elastic to tighten) and she loves the zip-off feature. Material seems very sturdy, but we haven't used them hiking yet. The 10 year old likes them as well, but it seems the width of the leg in the Large (where the zipper hits) is almost the same width as that of the Medium. I put them up to each other to measure. My 10 year old is slim, so it wasn't an issue, but I am not sure I'd recommend the pants (at least in the large size) if your child does not have slim legs.

My kid likes these pants for hiking and as far as hiking pants go, these are decent looking, but they are GIGANTIC in the waist. My kid is pretty close to average according to the growth charts at the pediatrician's office, slightly taller than average for his age, but very proportional. We normally crank down the waist adjusters on his pants a little bit, but on these, we had to go down 8 button holes on each side just to get them to stay up. I guess that's what adjustable waists are for, but really, why is the waist so ridiculously big?

May seem a bit pricey for a child’s raincoat, but it’s well worth it. I have a picky child and he loves this coat. It’s great for warm weather or layering in cooler weather. Quality makes it a worthwhile investment for a hand-me-down later.

Nice and lightweight, fit my son great but I didn't notice prior to purchasing that it has chest pockets but no hand pockets. The pockets are a great size, but awkward if you actually wanted to use them to keep your hands dry, so I think I'll be returning it for one with hand pockets.

Nice pant, but runs small for size. The pant legs were too short for my average height / weight 11 year old (5'1''). Material is also very thin, and the zippers are not well covered on the inside, so my child reported that they were itchy. Returned and bought a different brand.

Absolutely beautiful. Long enough to keep the tushy warm, but also not too heavy. Had an issue with a broken zipper, but Zappos quickly replaced it.

Great lightweight all-weather jacket. We gave it to our grandson in blue for his 14th birthday. The elasticized cuffs, roomy zippered pockets, and fold-away hood are nice features. As usual, we appreciate Zappos fast service.

Fantastic! Thank you, Marmot for making a 'girls' pant that isn't skin tight and pink (not that we're not into those too; it's just great to have options!). My daughter loves the convertible aspect and I love the 'grow an inch' hem.

I purchased this coat for my 7yo daughter after she complained that the shorter North Face she has been wearing since last year was not keeping her warm enough. She absolutely loves the longer style and the warmth of the Montreaux. The length keeps her warm on the playground and the hood and collar are also built for warmth and comfort. I bought her a size medium/8 and it has plenty of room to grow into. I have not noticed any feathers coming through the lining, either. This is my first Marmot purchase, and now that I've seen how well constructed it is, I'm considering purchasing the adult version for myself!

Beautiful coat! My 6-year-old is short for her age, and the XS fits well (but is still a bit big), so she will definitely be able to wear this next year as well (and maybe even the year after). My 10-year-old loved her sister's coat so much she asked for one, too! I eventually bought her one (Large), as well. Warm and stylish, but not too puffy. The girls are obsessed with their new coats!

I bought this coat for my 8 year old daughter to keep her warm at school. It is perfect and she loves it! Beautiful coat and warm but not too puffy or bulky. She is tall for her age and the size medium goes almost to her knees in length and there is room to grow into it. It should fit next winter too.

This sweatshirt is the best! I purchased it for my son and whenever he wears it, I want to hug him non stop because this sweatshirt feels so good. It is super soft to the touch. The material isn't very thick or too thin. It's just right.

This jacket is perfect for spring! Bought the zinc/slate gray (in 6-7) for my almost 7 year old and it is perfect. It is sort of a mix between gray and green. A great neutral. Very happy with it! My only small criticism is that the hood could be a smidge bigger. Other than that, it is just what we were looking for. :)
