Marmot Kids

Marmot Kids Logo
THE MEANING OF LIFE Marmot clothing and equipment began in April 1971, when two University of California Santa Cruz students, Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley, were in the Juneau Icefields of Alaska on a school project in Glaciology. While atop those glaciers, it was there amongst the students that the concept of a Marmot club was born. In order to become a Marmot, they had to climb a glacieted peak with another Marmot. In addition, everyone was president.

During that summer and up until 1973, Eric and Dave began making prototypes of down clothing in their dorm room. In addition to Eric and Dave, their friend Tom Boyce joined their ranks and opened a rental/retail shop under the name Marmot Mountain Works. Here is where the Marmot company was brought to life in the summer of 1974.

Marmot incorporates quality Gore-Tex® in their products, maintaining the highest quality performance product. As a company, they actually remain to be the oldest customers of Gore-Tex® in the world outdoor market. Marmot endeavors to provide outdoor gear that is authentic, innovative and best in class. In every area of business practice that they engage in, they passionately seek the highest level of quality, performance, service and value.

I agree with the other reviewer that the waist on these is ultra wide. My kid is pretty narrow but these need to be pulled allllllll the way in. However, the fabric is really really nice, and the length is good -- can tuck into socks to avoid ticks -- so we'll keep them.

I have purchased this brand many times, usually from an outdoor retailer. The jacket I received is not the jacket in the photo or description. It also runs really small compared to other styles by the same brand. It’s going back and I’m heading to a store where we can buy in person. Still love Zappos though.

So, I have three of these all from REI, only mine all have hoods that tuck into the collar. This, I thought was exactly the same as the three I already own considering I used the inside label style number and the Zappos description says the hood tucks into the collar. This is the second one from Zappos and neither has the hood that tucks into the collar. Pretty irritated that I ordered it a second time (the Zappos descriptions were different for the two that I ordered), and now have to try and find the one I want, again!

This is such a cute jacket. Very lightweight, waterproof and the styling is cool. It does run big but I’m happy because we’ll get 2 seasons out of this jacket. I initially ordered the medium since the size chart stated that’s a size 8. But it swallowed my son who is wearing 7/8 in most things. I exchanged it for a small (6/7) and it fits like an 8 so he still has lots of room. Very happy! Bonus - my son says it looks cool :) Win win!

My almost 9 year old daughter loves these! She hasn’t found shorts in years that are comfortable. These were a hit! And, the fact that they are pants and shorts makes packing so easy. She is larger in the thighs and booty so I ordered her a large. They fit well with the adjustable waist that I can cinch up, and they look so cute on her.

These pants were nice but they are for my son and they came marked as Girls pants. Indeed, there was a lovely little flower motif above the rear pocket. Too bad, I'm returning them!

Ordered two pairs for my 8 and 10 year old daughters. Medium for the 8 year old - they are plenty big in the waist (thank goodness for the button elastic to tighten) and she loves the zip-off feature. Material seems very sturdy, but we haven't used them hiking yet. The 10 year old likes them as well, but it seems the width of the leg in the Large (where the zipper hits) is almost the same width as that of the Medium. I put them up to each other to measure. My 10 year old is slim, so it wasn't an issue, but I am not sure I'd recommend the pants (at least in the large size) if your child does not have slim legs.

My kid likes these pants for hiking and as far as hiking pants go, these are decent looking, but they are GIGANTIC in the waist. My kid is pretty close to average according to the growth charts at the pediatrician's office, slightly taller than average for his age, but very proportional. We normally crank down the waist adjusters on his pants a little bit, but on these, we had to go down 8 button holes on each side just to get them to stay up. I guess that's what adjustable waists are for, but really, why is the waist so ridiculously big?

Nice pant, but runs small for size. The pant legs were too short for my average height / weight 11 year old (5'1''). Material is also very thin, and the zippers are not well covered on the inside, so my child reported that they were itchy. Returned and bought a different brand.

Fantastic! Thank you, Marmot for making a 'girls' pant that isn't skin tight and pink (not that we're not into those too; it's just great to have options!). My daughter loves the convertible aspect and I love the 'grow an inch' hem.

These are GIRLS pants. Great pants but it says on the package GIRLS and although we could get by with the purple writing on the front, (Dark Steel color, that sounds masculine but it is not ) and my son fits and we really like the pants, the little purple flowers on the back pocket make it impossible. The sand color has blue writing, but do they have little flowers on the back pocket too? If they had boys we'd buy them in a heartbeat.

Great quality, however the thighs were too tight for me with an XL (I'm 4'11" and around 97-100 lbs) around the zipper. Wish they had fit!

Great lightweight pants that convert to shorts easily. Not good for thin children though as even the tightening waist was not enough.
